I really liked this romance as it was a mix of different vibes all in one. The romance was cute and i liked Allie and found her to be charming and slightly relatable. The side characters were good and i loved the mix of central conflicts that were occurring. The publishing story line was interesting and it made it stand out from other romances i've read this year. I enjoyed the london-ness of it as well and it was nice being so familiar with places mentioned in it.

I missed the romance part! I thought there would be more than this, but I recommend the book. Because the story was strong and beautiful.

The plot twist of this book was that it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be? I remember when I first started it, I was a bit bored and waiting for myself to get interested in the plot or characters, but little by little, our couple won me over and I had a good time with this one overall :)

This was such a cute and heartwarming story!! Will definitely be reading more books by Eleanor after

Ok this was really good. I really enjoy it . I feel the story was well set up and that it was super engaging. I like how Allie and Martin are helping each other in their writing and how she helps him with his marriage. Will and Allie relationship was well done and I enjoyed it. Everything was very well balanced.

I read the premise of this and thought I was going to love it. I am a huge sucker for main characters that are authors ( don't ask me why). But this book wasn't it for me. I really don't like the whole premises of a book to be miscommunication and basically Will and Allie. First she things he is a waiter, he isn't, then she meets and starts working with his dad, and then lie about it to everyone, then when they finally get everything worked out, we are getting together, the ex-boyfriend lies and says Allie and him are together and Will doesn't talk to her and they break up again. This is like middle school drama.
There was also like 3 or 4 different plot lines going throughout the book, the whole things with Verity and the publisher, the issues with Martin and his daughter/wife and then her best friend wanting to move away and I think something was being brought up about her father's death. It was like a million things happening but yet the story still felt slow, and things were trying to be connected but really didn't have anything to do with each other. It felt a little chaotic.
If I hadn't been reading this as a netgalley book I would have DNF'd the moment Allie found out Will was Martin's son and then lied. That is deal breaker behavior for a romance character, but I kept pushing through.
The one part of the book I did really really like was Martin. Allie's relationship with Martin is probably the best part of the whole story. I love how they come together, how they immediately find a kindred spirit in each other, how they helped each other with their writings, with their love lives. Lets face, their relationship was this story. If you had taken out the Verity/ Bad publisher story line, the best friend moving away and just focused on Martin and Allie's working relationship and how that would affect her relationship with Will - that would have been a really good story.
Anyway - not every book is for each person.

Gus and January is that you?! I like that 2 writers fighting over a book deal trope is getting more famous

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and Eleanor Goymer for providing me with an advance reader copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
While The Plot Twist had a somewhat gentle start, requiring a bit of patience, the payoff was well worth the initial investment. The narrative gradually drew me in, and once the central elements began to coalesce, I found myself thoroughly engaged. The latter half of the book, in particular, proved to be incredibly enjoyable, filled with moments that truly resonated. Eleanor Goymer masterfully builds the story, and while the initial pace might feel unhurried, it ultimately serves to enhance the impact of the later, more compelling developments. If you appreciate a story that takes its time to lay the groundwork before delivering a truly satisfying experience, then this is one to persevere with. The eventual unfolding of the plot and the well-crafted "best bits" make the initial slow burn worthwhile
3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This author is new to me, but I will be keeping an eye out for anything else they publish. I loved the story and the characters. The pacing of the story was great and the characters were relatable.

This one was a little drab for me, but I love a book about books so stuck it out.
Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review. Rounded up from 2.75

Okay. The Plot Twist by Eleonor Goymer? That title was not lying.
This book took me on a ride I did not see coming. What starts as a seemingly straightforward romance or drama (I won’t spoil how it opens!) quickly unravels into something deeper, darker, and so much more layered.
The pacing was on point—I flew through it in a couple of sittings. The writing is emotionally rich, and I really felt for the main character. But what makes this book stand out is exactly what it promises: that twist. I literally had to pause, go back, and re-read a chapter like, “Wait—did that just happen?!”
It’s clever without trying too hard, and if you’re someone who loves books that mess with your expectations and leave you thinking about it after… this is one to pick up.
4/5 stars – it gave drama, gave emotion, gave me trust issues. Would I recommend? Absolutely!!

This was a fun concept that needed just a little more work.

Eleanor Goymer’s The Plot Twist offers a refreshing take on romance by focusing more on emotions, personal growth, and enduring relationships rather than just passion and lust. The story follows romcom author Allie Edwards and crime novelist Martin Clark, two writers struggling with writer’s block. Their unlikely partnership to swap genres not only sparks creativity but also forges a heartwarming bond that’s more familial than romantic.
The dynamic between Allie and Martin is undoubtedly the heart of the book. Their relationship, filled with mentorship and mutual support, blossoms into something beautiful, and it’s satisfying to see them help each other find direction in both writing and life. On the romance front, Allie’s relationship with Will, a charming caterer, is sweet and well-paced, although a few chapters from Will’s perspective could have made their connection feel more balanced.
While the story has its predictable moments, it remains thoroughly enjoyable and easy to read. The subplot about the publishing world is interesting but feels somewhat disconnected from the central romance. Additionally, some of Allie’s decisions are a bit frustrating, and Martin’s personal issues lack proper resolution. Despite these minor drawbacks, the novel’s lighthearted charm and focus on relationships make it a delightful read.
In the end, The Plot Twist is not groundbreaking in any way but is reminiscent of a feel-good romcom — fun, uplifting, and pleasantly comforting. It’s a perfect pick if you’re looking for a story that’s cozy and heartfelt. I’d rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really fun book. I loved it so much that I've added it to my list of books to buy so I can read it again!

This was a cute romance without enough romance. Allie is a romance writer who has writer's block. She meets a curmudgeonly and famous detective writer who also has writer's block and they agree to help each other. That premise is actually a little hard to understand, because she gives him some ideas for his next book but she also helps him repair his relationship with his wife and uses that as fodder for her next novel. So I'm not exactly sure what he gives her but they develop a sweet friendship. Meanwhile she keeps encountering a handsome caterer who we know needs to be her love interest but that part of the story is just not developed enough to be satisfying. I wish this story just had a little more, the potential was certainly there.

The Plot Twist is a sweet and funny story about writing, love, and unexpected friendships. Allie, a romcom writer, and Martin, a grumpy crime novelist, are both stuck with writer’s block and no pages to show their editors. When they meet at a party, they come up with a wild idea: to swap genres and help each other finish their books.
As they work together, Allie finds a new friend in Martin, and meets Will, a charming caterer who might be the perfect love interest for both her life and her novel.
This book is lighthearted and full of fun moments, with a little romance, a bit of chaos, and a lot of heart. Perfect for fans of books about books and stories about second chances.

This was a cute quick read, I don’t read a lot of contemporary romance but this was a nice change of pace from my usual dark romance. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend to a friend. Very cute. 3.75/5 stars.

Surprisingly addictive…
We follow a burnout romance author in need of her next book, Allie, who sadly hasn’t written anything for months. Things are definitely not going well for her: a new and mean boss puts more pressure on her deadline and her love life is crumbling. One night, at an event, she meets a thriller author, Martin, and they end up coming up with a plan to write the books they need to submit. They decide to meet and switch plots. At the same time they are working together, Allie meets a cute events caterer, Will.
I loved the plot, how well Martin and Allie worked together and how the professional relationship develops into a genuine friendship. Will and Allie are also very cute and have chemistry.
All in all, I give this book a 5/5 stars. I would definitely buy it.

I’m not always a big fan of writer romances however I loved Homer’s last novel so decided to give this one a go. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me the slow burn was a little to slow (I forgot it was a romance at time). There were times where the story was a little over the top and made it hard to connect with our main characters. However if you are a fan of books about books I feel you would enjoy this one.

Amazing! I enjoyed this book so much!! Thank you so much to letting me read this arc!
I will be looking forward to reading more from this author
