After breaking up with her boyfriend, romance author Allie is with a severe case of writer's block. At a cocktail party for her publishing company, she runs across Martin, a thriller writer also facing the same debilitating writer's block as Allie. With rapidly approaching deadlines, Allie and Martin strike up an unlikely alliance. They agree to trade plot ideas. As they spend time working together, they form a special relationship. Martin becomes more than just a writing partner, he becomes a father figure.

At that same cocktail party, Allie met the caterer, Will. There was an immediate spark. And that spark broke another hole in Allie's writer's block. It proved an impetus to get her words flowing again. As deadlines draw closer, though, the line between story and real life draws thinner and thinner forcing Allie to examine what's most important to her.

What I enjoyed most about this story is the relationship between Allie and Martin. There is a true connection between the two. The age difference didn't hinder their friendship, it enhanced it. It allowed them to share different points of view about more than just their plot lines. They became much more than just writing partners.

The relationship with Will adds both fun, whimsy and a touch of humor. I enjoyed their connection and their interactions. The story takes a bit of a serious turn as secrets are revealed, leading to an honest, heartwarming conclusion.

This is a quick moving story, fueled by witty dialogue, interesting characters and emotion that comes from the realization of the important things in life.

The beginning did hold my interest pretty well, but then I became less interested very quickly. Overall it was a fun, cute book but it was not for me.

3.5⭐️ I enjoyed this for the most part. It was just on the slower side. The story focuses on Alley. She is a romance writer that is blocked. Lost without her editor, Alley has more thoughts on a murder mystery story than the romance book she is supposed to write. When she meets a famous murder mystery writer, they form a bond and a mutual agreement. Martin will use her idea and help her get past her writers block. What Martin doesn’t know is his marriage is Alley’s inspiration. Plus, the new attractive guy named Will that is giving her all the hopes for a romantic lead.

This was a cute, fun read and the couple were SO good together! I love that they are both writers switching their genres to help with writers block, as a sucker for books about books.

I was in the mood for a good romance book and this did not disappoint! I thought that this was incredibly well done, the characters were super likeable and I loved the actual romance bits.

I really wanted to love this book but struggled with it and had to DNF. The pacing was off and I really struggled with the characters themselves and their behaviour.

This romance sounded really good while reading the synopsis. However I felt like it was nothing out of the special. There were some funny scenes, but the romance felt a bit blunt at some times. Therefore this book is just an avarage read for me

I wanted to love this book, but it was simultaneously shallow and boring. It's such a cute concept, but it disappointed me. DNF'd at 28%. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I only got throught the prologue and first chapter before deciding that this book isn't for me. Complaining about how an old white man has it easier than you and mentioning the lack of diversity inn his books, and within the same chapter, making a Harry Potter reference is just ridiculous to me.

As a writer also encountering writer's block at the moment, I adored reading this! The story was slow at parts (hence one star removed), but it was clean, cute, and deserves more recognition. Thanks to NetGalley for the ebook!

Switching stories was such a fun idea, Allie expressing a little of her inner serial killer with her plot for a murder mystery and Martin remembering the beginning of his love story with his wife. I would happily read both of their books if I could! The friendship and understanding between the two of them was so great to read despite the differences between them they are able to connect in a really meaningful way.

The romance is a bit more subtle through the book between Allie and Will but I think the level really worked for them and to be honest I would be quite happy to revisit them in the future as side characters in another story or even a novella as an extended epilogue. I would say that my only real criticism is that, particularly around the middle of the book, is that Allie did become a little tough to read as she was very focused on herself.

Overall though this was a really great read and I completely enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a easy read with a really interesting plot.

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read. My favourite part of the book Was Allie’s and Martin’s unlikely relationship and I wished we got to see a little more of it. It was just a really lovely friendship and I adored their plan to help each other out of their writing slumps.

I liked Will as an MMC and I liked his and Allie’s relationship. It was nice to see it blossom. I think is initial reaction to Allie’s book inspiration was a little dramatic. The miscommunication/lack of throughout the book did have me rolling my eyes a little (not my favourite trope) as it could have been easily avoided.

Overall, it was an enjoyable book and I would recommend it!

I wanted to like this book, and I did in the beginning, but it just wasn’t what I was hoping for.
I felt like the majority of the book is Allie and Martin’s story and relationship. I didn’t like Martin at all so that made it a rough read.
I wanted more from Allie and Will. Their story fell completely flat and I just didn’t enjoy it much.

There was lots to like about this book, the plot was interesting, the writing was confident and the characters had potential. Sadly, it just didn’t seem to work out as well as it could have. Surprisingly, for a romance novel, especially one in which the main character is a romance novelist, there wasn’t very much romance. Much of it seemed to happen off the page (as did a lot of the novel) and to be honest the main couple didn't really seem to spend a lot of time together. I would have liked to have seen more of their story and not so much of everyone else's. As I said though, there is much to like, and if the plot peaks your interest and you’re not bothered about too much romance in your romances then it’s worth picking up. (There is a very nice secondary story between Allie and Martin that I really enjoyed). I would read this author again as I did enjoy her writing style.

I enjoyed reading this sweet story. It was a fun, uplifting book and easy to read. I like how the love is described and the importance gave to friendship.

Allies antics annoyed me. The miscommunication, the withheld truths. She's a grown woman acting like a child and not always owning her mistakes until much later in the book.

The chemistry between the characters was lacking, I enjoyed the interactions between Allie and Martin more than between the love interest.
I did like how it portrayed writers block and how writers are inspired by their surroundings.

I'm very mixed on this book. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions, but not enough to keep me excited as I pushed though this book. I say "pushed through" because I put it down and considered not finishing it *several* times. I ended up skimming through the last quarter of it because I wanted to see how the author resolved the primary conflicts.

What we did get of the romance was sweet, but the pace of the book dragged a lot at points, and the #metoo storyline seemed as if it were shoehorned in. Also, at the end, there were a lot of things that resolved "too quickly and perfectly" - as if the author just realized they couldn't write everything they wanted but couldn't leave the threads hanging out there.

Cute and fun read but in the grand scheme of it there was missing some things but very entertaining!
