I don’t know if this will be a popular opinion but I didn’t love this. I felt the reverse, Dexter-feminist plotline was messy. The main character was just unhinged to me, there was nothing convincing about her motives. It was generic.

First of all, I like a dark read. But, this was just too dark for me. Didn't like the main character and was not into all her killings.

Cordelia Black has got it all. She's a successful pharmaceutical rep and a godmother to the best little girl she'd ever met - daughter to her best friend. They are the people that Cordelia loves the most in the world. The ones she will do anything for.

Because Cordelia knows one thing about the world - There are bad men out there. Men with smoke in their eyes that show her they don't respect women, they don't like women - worse still, they hurt women. Cordelia's second job, or maybe her hobby, is taking care of those men, making it so they can't hurt another women again.

This was such a fun, dark read. Cordelia was hard to like in the first few chapters but as her facade dropped and her world started to tilt completely out of control, I liked her more and more. This had a feeling of part Dexter, part Promising Young Women and just as wonderful as both. I enjoyed this as an audio book and the narrator was wonderful! This may show as a debut but it didn't feel like one! It was wonderful, highly recommend!

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

This girls a killer by Emma C Wells

If you love Finlay Donovan with a splash of Dexter… You will be in for a real treat with Cordelia Black.

By day she is a big pharma rep. At night…. She finds dangerous predators and makes sure they earn their place in hell. She is Karma.. Not a serial killer.

Things go awry when her best friend meets a man and she can feel the danger coming off him… Trouble is, trying to protect her friend has her forgetting all her safety protocols and now she is in real danger of things coming to a head.

This book was excellent. The writing was absolutely brilliant and I loved Claudia Black. She remade herself and what she does is for the greater good. I love a good vigilant story! I laughed a lot too. Claudia’s internal monologue was excellent and I was totally invested in her.

It was a wild ride, moderately paced and had me on the edge of my seat. Narration was on point too!

Cordelia Black has a gift - she can recognize the monsters in men, no matter how hard they try to hide them. And then she rids the world of them. She has a well working system - until several wrenches are trown into it and Cordelia scrambles to keep her secrets hidden and keep out of jail.

Sadly, I'm quite disappointed in this book. I was hoping for something more along the lines of "Butcher and Blackbird" and in the beginning, this is exactly that (minus the romance). I liked getting to know Cordelia, her believes and relationships, and the slight mishaps were funny. But at about the 50% mark this story takes a sharp left from humorous serial killer adventures into comedy of errors. It felt like the author just added problem after problem to fill the pages, not further the story. I also thought that the budding relationship to the police officer should have been explored more.

Another thing I hated, is that Cordelia refers to herself in the 3rd person. Cordelia Black wouldn't do this. Cordelia Black is cautious. Cordelia Black... This makes sense on a level, but it just annoyed me!

The narrator of the audio book gave her best and brought Cordelias inner turmoil perfectly to life. But she couldn't make me like the story any more.

All in all l believe this would be a fun read if one went into it with the right expectations.

This Girl's A Killer - This thriller was a good one. A strong female lead character, fast paced and never stopped until the last page. The narrator was fantastic. This book definitely kept me guessing!

This Girl's a Killer is like if Dexter was a female... Cordelia is on her Vigilante Sh*t!!! She doesn’t ghost bad men... she vanishes them. I was absolutely hooked from the start, unable to put the book down until I knew how everything would play out.

Meet Cordelia Black!! She's not a regular gal... By day she's a pharma rep, but when night falls, she transforms into this badass avenger, taking down the bad guys with style and finesse. Who doesn't love a double life?

What to expect:
Found Family
Female Rage
Sassy Serial Killer
Morally Grey FMC
Dark Humor

If you enjoy audiobooks - this one is expertly done! The narrator, Stefanie Kay really brought Cordelia and the story to life!

Cordelia Black is happy, now. Once upon a time, in her past life, she wasn't so happy, and now she's going to make sure that no matter what she never goes back to that! She's on the hunt for men with smoke in their eyes, and bad intentions in their hearts. Once she finds them, she becomes a blond, a brunette, a red head, she's whatever she needs to be to get her mark to trust her, then she takes them out All this in her spare time. Read the book to find out more about Cordelia, her family and how she plans to protect them.

I had such a fantastic time reading this book! The idea of a lady killer, going after this various bad guys, it was just so entertaining to read! And the downward spiral, where everything was going wrong, I just had to keep reading, to see just how bad it could get-and how she was going to get out of it!

Cordelia is a successful woman, she's a good sales rep for a pharmaceutical company, she has her best friend, and her best friend's daughter, her life is great. She also, in her spare time, kills men, monsters, who she encounters. And then things start going wrong, and I couldn't get enough!

That Diane's boyfriend was acting suspicious, but because of how protective Cordelia is, she's not able to get how serious, how important it was, that this was not a good dude. Which is part of the spiral, espcailly after events happen. Add in the police, a neighbourhood dog that keeps getting into her house, and a rotting body in her bathroom, yeah, it was chaotic and so very entertaining!

I saw on another review that the author has toyed with writing a sequel to this book. Which I'm absolutely rooting for that, I had such a great time with these characters and I would love to spend more time with them, watch them deal with another series of events!

Loved reading this book, and I can't wait to read more by Emma C. Wells, in the potential series or other stories!

Cordelia Black uses designer clothes and her flawless reputation as a drug rep as a cover for her real passion - killing bad men. While I loved the “Dexter” vibes of taking back control and taking things in your own hands, this book was lacking on a few aspects for me to really love it. I needed a better back story for Cordelia - as a reader all we really get is that she had a “bad childhood” with generic bad mom, drugs and abuse but never really get any scene to really justify her rage. No sort of psychological or emotional explanation which felt unfinished to me. The other part I struggled with was the overall vibes and mood of the book, it felt like it was trying too hard to be light and funny (think Finlay Donovan) but it missed that mark and landed somewhere between dark and delusional. Otherwise, I was fairly entertained, and enjoyed the plot and how hard Cordelia fought for the ones she loves, however misguided. I listened to this one on audio and I think it did the job, but wasn’t overly remarkable.

This was so well written and so perfectly creepy. I loved how the FMC slowly loses her grip on reality and the situation, and shows how important it is to have friends who support you. I also loved that you can understand the rage of the FMC.

This thriller was a fun ride. I liked the main character quite a bit and I thought the narrator did a great job bringing her to life. This was a great mix of thriller and humor and definitely for fans of things like Dexter. Cordelia Black has her life completely together. She has a best friend and god daughter who she loves, a job she’s great at, and a calling for a greater purpose that helps keep other women safe. Cordelia hunts monsters. Her childhood left her with an over familiarity with monsters and at some point she realized she could claim her power back by killing them. She has her rules and routines and everything is going well. But when a series of unfortunate events throws her carefully structured life into disarray Cordelia has to learn some things about who she truly is. I really liked this story and would definitely read more from this author.

This Girl’s a Killer by Emma C. Wells was a fun and engaging read, particularly for fans of darker, character-driven thrillers. It had a strong Dexter-like vibe, with its complex, morally gray protagonist who takes justice into her own hands. The first half of the book was gripping and kept me hooked, offering an interesting mix of suspense, wit, and a unique perspective on crime.

That said, the story began to lose momentum for me in the final act. Without giving too much away, I found it hard to believe that the protagonist’s best friend would so willingly go along with everything after discovering the truth. I get that close friendships can be intense, but that felt a bit too far-fetched for my taste. It took me out of the story a little, and unfortunately, the climax didn’t quite stick the landing.

Despite that, I still had a great time with this book! The pacing, characters, and writing are all solid, and it’s definitely worth picking up for anyone who enjoys dark thrillers. Also, the audiobook narrator (Stefanie Kay) really brought the story to life – her performance was a highlight and kept me invested throughout.

Thank you SO much to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen and review this audiobook!

I have read multiple books that attempt to effectively communicate a female serial killer that targets bad men, and unfortunately only one of them has ever pulled it off in my opinion, and it isn’t this one.

I really struggled with this book, and I do think that if I hadn’t read it as an audiobook I would have DNF’d. I really disliked the main character, which is not always an issue, but in this book, I believe that the author was trying to write her as questionable but likeable, and it just didn’t work for me.

I found her backstory shaky and underdeveloped, and her actions to be mostly unjustified and very predictable. I did appreciate some of the thriller aspects of this book, but there were few points where I felt as though I didn’t know what would happen.

The general plot felt a little underdeveloped to me, as there were quite a few plot holes and storylines simply ignored by the end of the book. Additionally, I didn’t like the audiobook narrator, but that is of course personal preference.

Obviously I wasn’t a fan of this one, but those that are looking for a thriller may enjoy it. 1.5/5

This Girl’s a Killer by Emma C Wells
Mystery thriller.
Cordelia Black is a killer. But only to those that deserve to be killed. Bad men. Men that could be arrested if or when caught. Cordelia takes justice into her own hands when she finds the opportunity. She has a special setup with plastic for wrapping, drainage for those fluids and a contact that will take care of the body when she calls. She also has the method to immobilize them initially. Cordelia is a pharmaceutical representative and there is one drug in particular she uses that fits her needs perfectly. Unfortunately for her though, the drug has been recalled and she has to wrap up her records to make sure the police don’t come calling.
Meanwhile her best friend starts dating and Cordelia feels something’s off with him.

🎧 I alternated between an ebook copy and an audiobook which was narrated by Stephanie Kaye. The performance is fantastic and will definitely hold your attention. The last couple of chapters had me riveted to see what was going to happen next.
I listened to the audiobook at 1.5 which is my preferred speed.

It’s a thriller, with a bit of comedy. Or maybe a comedy of errors would be a better description from Cordelia’s POV. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would once I realized the title was dead on. Maybe because they are “bad” men but I didn’t hate this killer.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Dreamscape Media.

I found the premise for This Girl's a Killer to be interesting, and it could have been fantastic. Instead, I just found it to be ok. I wanted a bit more character development, and the story lagged in the middle for me. It could have been edited down to about 80% to keep the story moving along. I was interested enough to finish, but I wasn't rushing back to find out what happened next as I was reading.

The narration was good.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia for a free copy of #ThisGirlsAKiller by Emma C. Wells. All opinions are my own.

The premise for this one truly intrigued me. It just didn't deliver exactly what I wanted. I needed more suspense. The FMC was also not very relatable I just couldn't stand her, so it made it harder to justify her actions. Still a very addicting read.

Feminist serial killer meets Dexter, I was intrigued by the premise of this story and it delivered exactly what I expected. Cordelia is an interesting character, a Pharmacy Rep who is on top of the world and all it took was one drug that was her biggest money maker, as well as a tool of choice for her extracurricular activities, eliminating bad men, for everything about her perfect life to come crashing into a world of chaos.
