This is a story of faith, hope and resilience that I very much enjoyed.
I was lost in the story from the beginning until the end.
I didn't want this book to end. I hated to say goodbye to these two awesome ladies. I felt like they were the sisters I never had.
I really enjoyed in getting to know these characters and yes even Zelda.
I didn't like Zelda from the beginning. She wasn't a very nice person.
I liked the author's notes at the end of the book. Those always interest me.
5 stars for a job well done! I highly recommend!

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! It was heartwarming to follow Amalia as she faced difficulties from her travels to America and seeing how she relied on the Lord amid all those trials. The author did a great job developing these characters and having them grow through their circumstances and learn to rely on each other and their faith.

I enjoyed this book very much. I love this author’s stories of immigrants from Norway many years ago. There were many obstacles to overcome and the hard work they had to put in to make it here is inspiring. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical novels. I was given this book to review. I look forward to a continuation of this series.

Amalia is appointed legal guardian after Ruthie's mother dies from cholera while on a ship to America. Amalia, twenty, is unmarried, and she can't imagine what awaits her at the boarding house Ruthie inherited in Iowa.

Determined, Amalia shows great love for Ruthie and strength and determination to do her best. Little does she know what awaits her. The characters are well-developed with flaws and strengths, and I enjoyed following their reactions to the numerous circumstances and obstacles they had to face. There were so many twists to the storyline that kept me guessing, and I couldn't put it down.

I enjoyed the setting, including the boardinghouse, farm life, Norwegian historical details, and close-knit community. The story is about trust, new beginnings, compassion, loss, and a willingness to follow God's prompting. The faith aspect was beautiful and enriched the story. I highly recommend it. There is so much depth to the storyline.
