In an adorable example of competition, two youngsters argue about who's Dad is best. When one boy says that his dad can lift a truck, the other says that his dad can lift a truck full of elephants. With each page one of the kids adds to the truck that his dad can lift. The scenario gets sillier and sillier, and the bright colorful illustrations are delightful. The turning point in the story abruptly switches from pure imagination to reality. When one of the fathers holding the truck full of pregnant elephants takes a tumble down the imaginary mountainside, he is hurt. The other Dad takes care of him and the boys realize that their fathers love each other. I love this sweet storybook showing same sex parents. The story was adorable and will be ideal for a child in an LGBT family. It can also serve as a great way for other parents to introduce the concept that there are many types of families.

The gay dads were so cute!! Love the twist on my dad is better than your dad. I'm 100% sure I've read a fanfic like this

"My Dad is the Best" by Fran Pintadera is about 2 kids who are arguing that their dad is the best. Their exaggerations of what their dad can do keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Great illustrations by Joan Turu and clever dialogue by Fran Pintadera. I would've liked for there to be more of a lesson for the children.

Cute story about two boys who continue to brag about what their dads can do until things get a little out of control but ends in displays of kindness.

Thank you to Charlesbridge and NG for the advanced copy.

Spoiler: My kiddo was really hung up on the fact that the elephants’ pregnancies seemed to revert back to singletons in one of the illustrations.

I loved this story! The age old fight of, “My dad is better than your dad” gets shown in a whole new light. Lovely illustrations depict the two fathers outdoing each other in strength. There’s more to a man than his strength though - and I think this book handles it beautifully.

An absolutely adorable little book that beautifully illustrates the joy of queer blended family with quite a sense of humor to boot!

My Dad is the Best is a super silly and fun read that perfectly captures how some kids see their dads as larger-than-life heroes. The illustrations are absolutely adorable—bright, colorful, and full of charm. While the story starts off with playful exaggeration, it ends with a sweet and unexpected twist that brings everything together in the most heartwarming way. A delightful book for any child who thinks their dad is the best!

This is a really simple and fun picture book with the cutest ending. Great for a read-aloud. The format was a bit wonky on the digital copy, so I'm interested what it will look like on the page.

This is my first time reviewing a children’s picture book, but might I say I started off with the PERFECT one. This book was so creative, filled with the most endearing humor and a heartwarming ending. I would gladly read this to my nieces and nephews. I can’t stop smiling!!!

This is such a cute, lighthearted book! It is a perfect representation of the important role fathers play in their sons' lives and how young boys put their father on a pedestal. I love the humorous way of showcasing that the expectations kids put upon their parent are often completely unrealistic. I also really enjoyed the manner in which the fathers falling for each other is presented as a normalized idea without too much attention being put on their gender.
Overall, I would love to sell this book in my store. I really hope it gets translated into Dutch as well!

The story of two kids who are competing over whose dad is better, stronger, bigger. The ending is such that the dads are friends and love each other, but I would have liked to know how they resolve this between the boys (who had the original conflict). I would appreciate more conflict resolution in a children's book about conflict.

Two little boys get into a competition with each other, about how their Dad is stronger, more powerful and better than the other's. The bragging becomes more outrageous, the claims more and more outlandish. I am not sure the end was clear to my little ones though. One of the Dads giving the other a flower is a subtlety that my kids aren't really familiar with. :) But love the note on which the story ends. We loved it.

So cute. The art was great, the subtle end on a gay note, the whimsy and everything was perfect. What a great read for kids to experience two dads who love each other!

This book starts out with two boys arguing about who's dad is the best. It has you laughing from the start with the elephants and mountains, etc. But the best part of this book? That would be the ending. This book eases from humor to love in a subtle and easy way that children of all ages could appreciate. #NetGalley #NetGalleyARC #ARC

Thank you to Netgalley for the Arc in exchange for an honest review.
3 and 1/2 ⭐️This was a cute little story as an early childhood educator, this is right up my alley(even though i don’t work with littles one anymore). This is a story that would captivate them, this is their behavior. I am the best/ my parents are the best and the reasons get sillier as they go. It didn’t need to be longer and it served it purpose(for little one with short attention span).I read it for myself first with a smile on my face, reminiscing about all the little stories like that that i have read in my career. And how those stories can make little mind more accepting, more understanding. Where it fell a little short for me is when i asked my kids if i could read it to them, they are 5 and 8. They enjoyed it alot, they were laughing and actually so intrigued by what the boy were saying that my oldest said that’s not even possible which made mines argue. They had mouth wide open and in awe of the illustrations. We had to look at each page and enlarge each image, they love the little things and the expression on the characters faces. When we came to the dad offering flower to the other dad i ask them what was happening and their answer were: maybe the one hurt is saying thank you for taking care of me. Maybe they offered flowers because they are friends now. Maybe its because on of them said he wanted flower so the other bought him flowers. So i think maybe it could have been clearer that this was a romantic relationship. At the end i ask them what was their favorite part. My son 5yo said”i like when they gave flowers” my 8yo daughter said”i like when they became a family”. I love it.

I absolutely loved this book! It’s such a heartwarming and charming read that beautifully highlights the love and connection between men. In a world where we're often conditioned to see men as distant or 'macho,' this story was a refreshing reminder of the power of friendship and genuine affection. I really appreciated how it portrayed love in a way that feels natural and sincere. I only wish I had a book like this growing up—it would have been such a comforting and inspiring read!

Thank you to Net Galley and Charlesbridge publishing for providing me a copy of this book.

The story starts off as a story of rivalry between two boys. They each believe that their dad is the
strongest, and talk up tall tales about their dads carrying trucks and elephants, and even pregnant elephants-until it all comes crashing down.
Then the boys see that’s there’s more to life than being strong. I really enjoyed the part where one dad is tending to the other wounds and bringing him food. It shows that men and boys can also be gentle and caring. My only complaint is that the dads had no dialogue, and while I understand the story is from the boy’s perspective, it would’ve been nice to have a lesson about rivalry. I still enjoyed it though, especially because of the illustrations. I loved the small details like the baby elephants smiling in their mother’s bellies and the expressions the elephants made throughout the story.
I think this book would be enjoyed by families with two dads and by blended families. The sentences are simple enough for newer readers to read to their family.

Very sweet picture book that shows the competitiveness of young children, but ultimately teaching that there is a much stronger force than physical strength!
