Not sure why I did not review this book earlier. I still recall this book and its beauty - not just in the story and the words but the illustrations as well!
Grandparents play such a special role in children's lives (as mine did for me, and my kid's grandparents are fulfilling for them!) and this book illustrates that impact beautifully. Hana does not know the meaning of the word impossible and that is inspiring!! Read the book and fall in love with the art; and with how a shared love of something makes love between family stronger. And also to learn to pursue your dreams, no matter what!
Thank you to NetGalley for the digital rc of the book!

This is a sweet and elegant little picture book with real heart and a real message. It's also a perfect fit with the national Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) theme for 2018, which is "Libraries Rock!" in that it deals with music and the life lessons which are to be learned while also learning how to play music and participate in musical culture. Even outside of the possibilities for summer reading programming, this is a beautiful little book and fully worthy of keeping in its own right. The illustrations, courtesy of Qin Leng, are adorable, and I have the feeling the message will resonate with children anywhere from age three to six.

I definitely read this, so I'm not sure why Goodreads ate my review from long ago. I play violin myself, and enjoy children's books about it. This one was enjoyable as well, and since I'm trying to pick out more books with non-white characters, this one is getting added to my classroom wishlist.
