In "Is that My Hat?" by Kevin Payne, Mole is looking for the perfect hat. Just like Goldilocks tale, the hat he finds are too big or too small, too spooky or too tall. Great for tying together fairy tale unit and how similar stories are told. Recommended for ages 3-7.

Students will find this book funny and will enjoy the ending. This book would make a great read aloud and is visually appealing with the colorful illustrations.

This book was very cute and fun! My two year old is obsessed with dress up and hats so this was the perfect book for him to add into his play routine. The illustrations are recognizable and I find it very fun when an author illustrates their own work because you know everything is just how they envisioned it, and Kevin Payne did both for this book!

This reminds me of a cross between Jon Klassen’s, “I Want My Hat Back,” and P. D. Eastman’s, “Are You My Mother?” It has humor, silliness, and unexpected surprises, while also having a satisfying resolution (with a hint of more shenanigans). The art style is simple, large, and bold, which makes me immediately think of how well it would work as a storytime/read aloud. It’s fun to see all the different kinds of hats mole tries on and imagine what comes next.

Very cute illustrations and nice, simple language for the youngest audience to enjoy. I liked that it went from trying on different hats (teaching some adjectives) to picking things in nature that were not hats (young children will love the humor) to making a hat himself (perfect segue to a hands-on activity!)

This was cute and to the point. A light and funny book for small children. The art style is lovely and the story itself was reminiscent of books like the barnyard dance. Very enjoyable.

Love this funny book about Mole, who is on the search for the perfect hat. There are no more than two sentences on each page and large illustrations that focus on Mole and the many hats he tries on. I can see this being a great book for storytime!

Very cute book about a mole looking for a hat that fits him. Perfect book for children ages 2-6. The illustrations are super simple, but cute and not over stimulating. This would make for a fun extension to have children find their own hats as they read the story. I will be purchasing this book for my own physical library.

“Is That My Hat” by Kevin Payne is a cute quick story about Mole finding his hat. It’s a great simple book to read to my toddlers, something they can follow along with. Because of the simple words and pictures, it would also be great for beginner readers. My preschoolers loved reading it and I’m sure we will be reading again soon. :)

This book is perfect for 2-4 year olds. My daughter loved looking at the mole's choices of different hats and then going to find hats off her own that looked similar. I loved the different colors and brevity of this book. It's the perfect book to read at bedtime!

This picture book is cute and silly, with simple illustrations and short sentences that are great for reading aloud to toddlers and preschoolers. Hats seem to be having a moment in children's books right now, and I'm okay with it. Mole is an adorable character and the story is simple and sweet. I definitely recommend.

A mole declares “I want a hat!” and as he tries on each one he comes across, he mentions how they are not appropriate: “This hat is too small.” He decides to gather various materials to make a hat. This brief, simple story will inspire hat-making after sharing at a storytime or one-on-one. The text is easy to read (and guess) because the full-color illustrations, done in pencil with digital coloring, give many clues to the words being used. Although this is not particularly original or innovative, it is an effective, humorous story that will inspire creativity.

Is your hat too, tasty? Mole has that problem, too, in this super cute book about finding your own style.

Picture books create true delight when the images help the words reach father than they could on their own. And when they make us giggle. Is That My Hat does both! I loved that Mole not only found his own style… he found it by making his own style himself. Toddlers are absolutely going to love this one.

Very cute! Definitely feels like it could be part of the Klassen hat series. The story itself was pretty short and simple, but that tends to be just right with preschool (or younger) readers in my experience. I will definitely keep this one in mind for future Storytimes!
