This series has quickly jumped to my go-to book recommendations. I am so lucky to have gotten an ARC of Unloved and I read through it in one sitting. This book was absolutely incredible and I still can't decide if I like this one or Unsteady more. The tropes in this one aren't usually my favorite but it just works in this book. Peyton Corinne writes angst so well and I am so ready to re-read this one again.

4.5/5⭐️ I really enjoyed this book, I actually haven’t read book 1…but I’ll definitely be going back to read Rhys & Sadie’s story.

Ro & Freddy are just so cute together. I’m not usually a friends to lovers fan but this is so well done. I really enjoyed the slowburn yearning from Ro & Freddy.

Thank you Atria & NetGalley for the e-arc

Matthew, Matt, Matty, the man that you are. This book was so adorable, and I really love Peyton Corinne handles mental health, abuse in relationships, and the lack of resources available for people that have learning disorders. I enjoyed that both Matt and Ro were dealing with their own struggles and neither were perfect, it's just realistic that both people in a relationship would come with "baggage." Overall I did really enjoy this book, and I rated a 4/5 due to a few downfalls, see below.

A few downfalls for me: the length and pacing - we really could have shaved off 50-70 pages (I had the same feeling with Unsteady), I felt that the wrong things were dragged out and other parts could have been built on a bit more (I would be specific but no spoilers).

✨Tutor Romance
✨Hockey Romance
✨Pining
✨Interconnected Series
✨Learning Disorder Rep.

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for this E-ARC.

I enjoyed how much Ro and Freddy helped each other heal from their pasts. Their friendship was so sweet and I appreciated that they focused on that so much before they actually got together. It was also fun to see scenes from Unsteady from a different perspective since this takes place in the same timeline. The ending gave me all of the warm fuzzies!

Where it started to lose me a little was the amount of frustration it made me feel. I wanted to shake Ro to make her see sense well before she did. I have trouble with pushover, people pleasing FMCs and I just wish her growth came around sooner. Tyler is the worst and I hated that he was around so much. Same with the person Freddy has to deal with. All of the OM/OW drama took away from their romance to me, and these two did not get nearly the amount of consequences that they should have. What they did was serious and deserved a lot more fleshing out to resolve it more satisfactorily. The amount of obstacles they encounter in general started to grate on me, I think more focus could have been put on fun, light moments between them to get a break from the drama. It also never sits well with me when the MMC is with women after he starts to have feelings for the FMC.

This was enjoyable and easy to read even though it felt like the story jumped all over the place. I liked most of the characters but Ro felt so immature to me. I didn’t understand why she put up with Tyler and his BS in the first place and it was frustrating that this made me unable to connect with her. Matt/Freddy seemed a little too good to be true but I guess that’s typical for these hockey romances - the characters aren’t always realistic. Overall it was an easy read and I’d still read other books by this author.

I loved it, one of the aspects that stands out the most for me about the story was the growth and development of the characters, I loved seeing everything that Ro and Freddy worked to achieve their individual happiness as well as a couple. I also loved the author's writing, the story follows a good pace and the themes addressed were well developed.

I have no words. This book was so beautiful, I loved it. It was kinda of a slow burn (I think) and loved that about it. Ro’s and Matt’s relationship is so well written, the grief, the insecurities, the struggles they were having with their past and present. I absolutely LOVED the communication. Also loved that it wasn’t as spicy, i don’t mind an excessive amount of spice but with everything that was going on in both Ro’s and Matt’s life, i liked that it was mainly focused on that and them healing from it.
Overall 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s !!!

Unloved is the book that perfectly shows that “to be loved is to be seen.” While both characters deal with different relationship insecurities, they understand each other in a way that no one else can.

I felt that the give and take between the characters was wonderfully done, and felt seen with the mental health representation.

While I love character driven stories with heaps of angst, this book felt like it was missing something. So much was happening to the characters, yet we only get a surface level glimpse of their healing. I found myself being taken out of the story with how fast the audience had to move on from each trauma the main characters were facing.

★★◆☆☆ (2.5/5)
🌶🌶 (2/5)

Listen, the story istelf is good, is cute and interesting but as a book is missing so much structure.

There is almost no plot, no storyline the book is following, shit is just happening out of nowhere and they are dealing with it.

I couldnt connect with the story, i feel like the epilogue was too far fetched from their reality and didnt match the vibes.

Besides i think it lowkey ruines the first book because the characters are nothing alike and you are given a wiplash which makes it hard to connect with the whole book

This just wasnt it.

Unloved by Peyton Corinne was such a cute book. I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Matty and Ro and loved them individually. The story felt fresh, despite the many hockey romances out there (which I eat up every time!). I enjoyed the second book in the series even more than the first one and I can't wait to read what comes next.

“Unloved” by Peyton Corinne is a romance perfect for fans of The Off-Campus series by Elle Kennedy. This story had just the right amount of romance, while having a plot to the rest of the story.

If you’re looking for a new comfort read this is what you’re looking for! This story was an excellent friends to lovers story while showing the characters struggles with self-love and acceptance.

Following a hopeless romantic Ro, who is caught with a foot in an emotionally abusive relationship, with a bf mocking EVERYTHING. Though she begins tutoring Matt, a hockey player with self esteem issues, working to pass biology. They both work together and build each other up, showing that they both deserve to be loved.

This is one of the best slow burn romances I have read, and I really love that they both have lives and wants outside of the romance. There is angst and drama and hopes and dreams. ALSO THE EPILOGUES 👩‍🍳🤌💋, I only wish that we had the wedding scene.

I haven’t read Unsteady by Peyton Corrine, which is about Ro’s best friend Sadie, and Matt’s teammate, Rhys, however I LOVE the crumbs of them and I am going to read it today. This story is so interconnected with the other books in the series, both looking back at the old tales, and hinting towards the future of the series. I am reading Unsteady today!!!

Find this book 2/4/2025 I know I will!!! I am anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.

This book has gotten Peyton Corrine on my must read authors list, so excited to see whatever she releases in the future!!

This review is left voluntarily, and thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an ARC of this book.

Unloved follows the story of Ro and Freddy. This book is in the same timeline as Unsteady and you will get to see other sides of Ro and Sadie’s time together.

After reading both books in this series, I can assure you that Unloved is just as good (if not better) than Unsteady.

If you’re a fan of slow burn, friends to lovers, he falls first, all while over coming trauma together then this book is definitely for you!

4.5/5 ⭐️

Overview:
We follow two characters who we meet in the first book (can be read as a standalone tho). We have Freddy/Matty who is a hockey player who struggles with school and we have Ro who is his tutor who is in an awful (and I mean AWFUL) on and off again relationship. We follow their friendship and romance throughout the book while they face different struggles and obstacles from their own lives.

My thoughts:
I loved this book, the romance was simply *chefs kiss*. You could really feel their love and thoughtfulness for each other, and always stood up for each other no matter what. I also really enjoyed how we saw each character truly evolve and become better versions of themselves and not just relying on the SO to help save them in every situation. This book was overall so sweet and was a great read. I recommend this to anyone who loves a good hockey romance with more in depth characters and a fun but loving relationship between the two MC’s.

Having just finished "Unsteady" I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one! Freddy is the definition of if he wanted to he would.. and Ro absolutely deserves someone as charming as Ro!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked this book! I think enjoyed it just as much if not more than the first in the series. I think Ro and Freddie’s had amazing chemistry and I loved seeing Ro’s growth and being able to stand up to her ex. My only complaint is I felt the plot was dragged on a little so some things got a little repetitive but overall it was a fun time.

I loved Unsteady and was delighted to receive an ARC of Unloved. These were my first foray into hockey romance and I assure you, you don't need to know or be a fan of the game to fall in love with these books. Ro and Matty (aka Freddy) are just the sweetest characters. Following along while they tentatively fall for each other and help each other work through their past traumas was a sweet and funny ride. Such a great cast of characters across the board and I'm so hopeful for more books in this series! (WHAT is Toren Kane's deal, a girl must know!)

Peyton Corinne’s Unsteady was a huge win for me when I read it last year (and again this year). I thought her story was really original and intriguing.
Unloved is the second in the series and I was so excited to get the ARC and get back into her world.
The author does a really good job creating more complex story lines and characters than other books with similar tropes and settings and I really appreciate that about her writing. I think her writing in this story is comparable to Unsteady so I did enjoy reading it, but I didn’t connect to the characters in the same way as I did to the first. There were definitely aspects of this story that I really enjoyed but it didn’t hold the same emotional weight for me as Unsteady.
If you are a romance reader and haven’t read Unsteady yet I highly recommend it, and if you have Unloved is definitely worth your time as well.

I got an early copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book. College romances are my kryptonite but it’s rare to find one that has depth to its characters and their relationships, without being formulaic in the plot (and no third act breakup!!). I loved Freddy and Ro’s relationship so much - it felt like real people getting to know each other and who were true friends before getting together. Freddy was a confident, protective MMC who hit all the tropes I love without falling into the typical machismo/alpha male stereotype you often find in romance books. I was less fond of Ro in the beginning but came to like her more as the book progressed. Will definitely read any book by Peyton!

I have absolutely loved Peyton Corinne’s last two books. Both Unsteady and Unloved are such enjoyable reads. They are very similar to many other college hockey romance books, but absolutely elevated. The quality, and writing style are unmatched by any others in this niche, save for Bal Khabra.

I absolutely loved Matty and Ro’s story, and even though it dealt with heavy topics, it still felt light and joyful.

I am so excited for what Corinne writes next!

If you were a big fan of Icebreaker, Unloved is another college hockey romance with spice, heart, and finding your place you that will scratch that same itch.

Matt Fedderic is a hockey star with learning disorders that make it difficult for him to stay eligible for the team. Ro is his new tutor. She has a toxic ex who builds himself up by bringing her down, and though he doesn't want to date her, he doesn't want to be rid of her either, since she's an easy punching bag. Matt has a reputation for getting around, fueled by the gaping hole left by his piece of crap father and his mother's passing. As Matt and Ro spend more time together, a friendship forms between them, and maybe even something deeper.

For me, this was an enjoyable read, but there were some problems. The fact that most of their early tension and attraction was caused by two different nights they had together that the other couldn't remember and was formative to the other...that just seemed problematic to me. Especially the prologue - since there is another scene based on that plot device a little later on, I kind of wish it hadn't been included.

There is some pretty dark stuff insinuated in this book. Matt's sexual past is...not great. It mentions some action with a high school teacher at one point. ...um, what? And then his most recent ex is nothing but bad news as well. And Ro's ex had zero redeeming qualities or background to back up his actions toward her.

I don't know. A lot of it was a little too much for me. If there were a volume dial on the drama scale I might have turned it down like two notches.

The relationship between Ro & Matt was sweet though. Having them prioritize friendship between them for so long was absolutely necessary for these two and absolutely refreshing. It was clear they weren't just horny for one another, but that they really cared about the other in much deeper ways. They are both going through some rough stuff, and they show up for each other every time it counts. That's the kind of stuff I love in a romance.

Unloved is really what I'm finding to be a 'typical' college sports romance novel. It's long, there are lots of plotlines, family traumas, lessons to be learned, steamy scenes, and a nice happy ending at the end. For me, it felt like I'd read it before honestly. There wasn't enough there to stand out, but I read A LOT of romance. But this is exactly what you might be looking for if you were a big fan of Icebreaker by Hannah Grace.
