This was a great suspense. I found myself not wanting to put it down. The story grabs you from the first page and makes you want to know what happens next. I loved the characters and I loved how Grey and Riley kept trying to navigate their feelings for each other while trying to focus on the case. I liked how eventually they were able to work everything out. I also loved what a great team they were. This story was very well done and I would highly recommend it.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

First, this is the second book in a series. If you haven’t read the first book, you really should. It’s not necessary to read it to understand and love this book, but it will definitely give you a little extra backstory. I’m always a fan of reading two books instead of one whenever possible.

Secondly, you’re going to need book three as soon as you finish this one. Trust me. I did. And it’s not ready yet! I’m so sad to miss out. But you know what that means? It means I’ll be reading three books when the third one releases because I will re-read books one and two before I read book three.

Okay. So book one follows one of the brothers, Christian MacLeod. This is book two, and it follows his sister, Riley. Plus, their investigative services firm. Christian, Riley and their other brother, plus their friend Greyson, who does their desk work. Greyson and Riley have an interesting relationship in that they love to spar and tease each other. Greyson is older than Riley and has some past that he does not share freely.

Riley is struggling with having recently killed a man when this book starts.
The mystery is when a friend goes missing. A mutual friend reaches out to Riley to investigate and find their friend because she’s sure some foul play is involved.

When investigating this disappearance, it appears hit men are out to get Riley and Greyson! Add in the mysterious key that Riley thinks this friend left for her to guard, and it just starts moving super fast. You won’t want to stop reading. I know I didn’t. I might have stayed up way too late finishing this novel. It moves super fast. And the ending gives you a twist that leaves you wanting the third book as well. And a character from book one pops back up as well.

Grab your copy! This series is amazing, and I cannot wait to read more!

When Riley MacLeod arrives at the upscale Jeopardy Falls Retreat in the remote expanse of northern New Mexico, she expects a typical skip-tracing case. But the disappearance of a young woman during a couples' retreat is anything but ordinary. The case is murky, the clues minimal, and the resort staff are less than cooperative. Complicating matters further is Riley’s reluctant partner: Greyson Chadwick, a private investigator with a shadowy past and secrets that make her question his every move.

Two Seconds Too Late is a thrilling blend of danger with an atmospheric setting in New Mexico, romance, and emotional depth. Dani Pettrey once again proves her mastery in romantic suspense, delivering a novel that keeps readers turning pages late into the night. Her characters are intense, cold and independent building tensions throughout the read.

From the beginning itself I felt that the author's action sequences have tight pacing that puts readers on edge, and they are clearly detailed and fast-paced. She creates tension in Two Seconds Too Late with exciting chapter ends, short, snappy chapters, and shifting points of view. The well-timed revelations and growing threat are a clear reflection of her experience writing.

What a fun read by Dani Pettrey! Her suspense novels are top-notch, and this one is no exception!

This story is action-packed and full of twists and turns.

Riley and Greyson are asked to look into a case involving a possible missing person, Kelly. They quickly discover that they are not the only ones looking for Kelly, and it seems that she is on the run after having stolen ... something.

The POV shifts between the detectives and what Kelly is doing. And yes, she IS on the run...because someone wants her dead. And she is doing her best to find a place to lie low, but THEY (the bad guys) keep finding her. (How?!)

So yes, this story is mostly about running. And hunting someone down. And being the hunted ones. There is shooting. Kidnapping. Danger. And much more!

In the middle of all of this, we see a developing relationship between Greyson and Riley. This definitely adds a fun dynamic to the story.

If you enjoy a good suspense novel, then I highly recommend this one!

In an enjoyable and suspenseful sequel to One Wrong Move, Dani Pettrey gives us an on-the-edge-of-your-seat ride as Riley and Greyson try to figure out what has happened to Riley’s friend, why she left her a mysterious key, and who is suddenly putting Riley’s life in danger! Aside from external danger, Riley’s heart is in serious trouble as she spends time undercover as a couple with her colleague Grey, who she’s had feelings for… for years.

It was fun unpacking the mystery with Riley and Grey, all the while aching for them to admit their feelings for each other and to fully understand what in their backgrounds is holding them back. The suspense plot is a roller coaster of secret searches, being chased, shootouts, and mystery. We get Riley and Grey’s POV but also some from Riley’s friend Kelly who is the one in trouble. And the romance is so achingly sweet. I love how the character’s faith plays a critical role in decision making and coming to accept things that have happened.

There’s also several cliffhangers and burning questions coming out of the epilogue… I can’t wait for book 3!!

This Christian romance mystery thriller had me hooked from the very first page. Dani masterfully weaves together a heart-pounding mystery with a sweet romance. The characters felt so real—flawed, relatable, and full of depth. She brought real emotional feelings into the story and made it so much more relatable than most books I’ve read!!
Every chapter left me wanting more, with suspense that kept me guessing and moments of tenderness that truly touched my heart. It's not easy to balance mystery, romance, and Christian values, but this book pulls it off beautifully. If you're looking for a clean, gripping read that feeds both your heart and soul, this is it. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Dani Pettrey takes us back to Jeopardy Falls with Greyson and Riley's story.
Both Riley and Greyson have some struggles in their past that affect how they see and respond to things in the present. But both PI's are determined to solve this case despite how it plays against their personal anxieties.
This book is generally fast paced, which I enjoyed. I did get confused on who is who at times with all the different characters but worked it out in my mind as I kept reading. And in no way did that stop me from enjoying the story. I like to read a series in order but for those that don't mind reading out of order , I think you could read this book before you read book 1 in the series.
And while there was not a big cliffhanger at the end of this book there were some unfinished items that I am excited to see in book 3. And yes, I am already impatient for book 3!
Definitely recommend this book!

Two Seconds Too Late what an awesome story of Riley & Grey.
They're trying to find Riley's friend which takes them to a resort. While working undercover as a couple to get answers they realize someone knows who they are and now they're in grave danger.
The twists and turns in this story kept me reading I had to find out what happens next. And the ending!! I can't wait for the next book!!

Two Seconds Too Late is an absolute page-turner! The intriguing title and stunning cover art drew me in, but the first page truly hooked me. The storytelling is so captivating, and the tension and expert pacing kept me turning pages with anticipation. I love when a book refuses to let me go

I found Riley to be incredibly relatable and easy to empathize with. Grayson is a fascinating match for her, both professionally and personally. Their relationship development as they work towards finding answers is beautifully portrayed, and their faith adds a touching element to the story.

This story goes beyond suspense, danger, and romance. Riley and Grayson are flawed characters with difficult pasts and emotional wounds that are intricately woven into the plot, adding depth and providing a satisfying sense of healing.

Two Seconds Too Late is the second book in the Jeopardy Falls series and is well-written with engaging characters and a curious premise full of mystery and intrigue. I found myself enjoying the investigation as we see different facets of the same literary diamond.

It took a bit for me to get my bearings with the barrage of characters and different POVs, but once I did, that’s when the story really took off for me. The energy between Greyson and Riley is enchanting. It’s clear they complement one another well, and the mutual attraction is nothing short of electric. There are some pretty intense moments throughout this novel, keeping the pace quick and the storyline interesting. The ending was particularly a nail-biting experience, making it almost impossible for me to put the book down until its conclusion.

With a great balance of mystery, suspense, and action, Two Seconds Too Late is a wonderful novel to snuggle up with on a Saturday night. I am hoping to have the opportunity to go back and read the first book in the series, as it’s clear this is a rich and layered world that I enjoyed being part of.

Two Seconds Too Late is packed with romance, suspense, and nonstop action that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. Dani Pettrey delivers a gripping story with plenty of twists and turns, all wrapped up in a sweet, heartfelt romance.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between Riley and Greyson. The fake dating trope is always a fun one, but what made it really work here was the deep friendship and feelings that were already between them. Watching their relationship grow as they faced both danger and personal struggles—and supported each other through them—was my favorite part of the story.

The plot was intricate and twisty, and the pacing of the action was spot on. I also loved the strong group dynamics; the bonds between the characters added an extra layer of warmth to the story. After the hints in this book, I’m already looking forward to book three!

Although Two Seconds Too Late is the second installment in the Jeopardy Falls series, it easily reads well on its own. That said, I’m definitely going back to read the first book while I wait (impatiently!) for the next one.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith element is light. 4 stars.

INTRIGUING ROMANTIC SUSPENSE!

I always enjoy a great romantic suspense book where the suspense drives the romance. TWO SECONDS TOO LATE by Dani Pettrey exemplifies this type of book! Pettrey’s plot is full of mystery, mischief, mayhem, and murder, all providing readers with a sense of intriguing romantic suspense throughout her story. The main characters of Riley and Greyson work together all the time but find themselves thrown into an unusual situation as they go undercover at a couples retreat to find a missing woman. They love one another but keep their feelings locked up like the gold in Ft. Knox! They both carry too much baggage to consider anyone could love them. This fake relationship may be too much for them to handle, or it may be the thing that brings their feelings out in the open. I like how Pettrey has these two characters peel back multiple layers while working together to solve what they thought was only one crime, but it turns out to be numerous crimes. One of my favorite parts of the book is when Riley and Greyson are about to be caught spying, and Greyson decides to “fake kiss” Riley to throw off any suspicion. Only the “fake kiss” caught them both off guard and felt all too real to each of them! They both felt remorseful when it ended and hated that it was not the real deal. It left them both wanting a real relationship but still doubting if that could ever happen.

Pettrey continues to build suspense in this story by putting Riley and Greyson's lives in danger. As they fight for their survival, they see how well they work together and how much their gifts complement each other. When Riley’s life is in imminent danger, Greyson will stop at nothing to save her. He realizes his heart may be capable of loving her as he should, and he may be able to believe that she loves him as much as she says she does. Riley and Greyson have a beautiful love story built on suspense that drove their romance!

I loved this book so much! From the characters, to the plot, everything kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat and the romance within the story was the icing on top!

One thing I loved about the book was how Grayson (MMC) had depression and even though he saw it as a weakness and a reason never to get married, Riley (MFC) saw it as a medical condition and nothing else - It didn't define him!

Overall, I will definitely reread this book and I highly recommend it! Absolutely giving it five stars!

I received this book to read and review - all opinions are my own.

Reading a Dani Pettrey novel guarantees a wild ride. Two Seconds Too Late is the second book in the Jeopardy Falls series written by her.
Riley, her brothers, and Greyson form a private investigation team. Action kicks in from the very first page and doesn’t slow down.

Riley and Greyson are a relatable couple with many struggles early on. Their relationship is the opposite-attract type, and tested when they go undercover at a luxury spa and resort. Their goal? Find a missing woman and avoid two dangerous hitmen who want to end their investigation. They pose as a couple, adding extra tension to their mission.

The story is packed with mysteries that unfold as the book goes on. Riley and Greyson quickly realize the woman’s disappearance is part of something bigger. They’re racing against time to find her. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow as obstacles kept them apart. Secrets, hidden motives, and possible links to the case add layers of suspicion and keep the story interesting.

Overall, Two Seconds Too Late delivers a gripping mystery and suspense story. It keeps readers hooked with twists, surprises, and intense moments until the very last page.

Christian Romantic Suspense is one of my top favorite genres to read in the Christian Fiction Market because of how skillfully written most Authors showcase Hope in the midst of difficult and dark circumstances. Two Seconds Too Late is a suspenseful read by Dani Pettrey and the second installment of Ms. Pettrey’s Jeopardy Falls Series. Two Seconds Too Late introduces Readers to Riley, her brothers Christian and Deckard, who own MacLeod Investigation and Security and run it with their friend Greyson. After a sleepless night, Riley senses someone on her property that shouldn’t be there and then when Riley arrives at work she gets word that her friend Kelly is missing from a couples retreat. As Riley and her co-workers track down leads, Riley has no choice but to go undercover at the couples retreat with Greyson. Secretly Riley and Greyson are excited about going undercover together, despite the circumstances, because they both have feelings for one another. However, Greyson and Riley believe they cannot have a relationship together for various reasons. As their search for Kelly intensifies, things aren’t what they seem, causing Riley and Greyson to realize that despite their reasonings, a relationship between them may be worth everything after all.

I love Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey! I thought the plot and the surrounding events were interesting, especially because I thought the story was going one way but the doors that were opened exposed something else entirely that was not always expected. I love that Two Seconds Too Late started off in New Mexico and surrounding states because I don’t always see that location used in Christian Romantic Suspense. I liked Riley and Greyson. I thought the relationship that developed between Riley and Greyson was sweet. I love how Riley and Greyson explored and dealt with their reasons for not having a relationship and turned it over in prayer and dependence on God. I love how Ms. Pettrey showed the Reader that God can still use people in spite of their trials and the remnants they may leave behind. I love how Riley and Greyson truly worked through things and that Ms. Pettrey didn’t write things to be shoved under the rug. I love that most of the major characters in regards to the crime(s) in the book were, in my opinion, not truly who they seemed to be–good or bad. That added a neat aspect and edge to the book that I needed. This is the first book I have read in the Jeopardy Falls Series and I felt like I missed some things in the book. However, that did not detour me from enjoying Two Seconds Too Late and the intriguing escape it gave me! If you are looking for a suspenseful and intriguing read that teaches a lesson of how God can still use us in spite of it all, I highly recommend Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey! I cannot wait to see what happens next in the Jeopardy Falls Series and catching up on what I have missed!

This book was fantastic! Greyson and Riley, with the romantic tension buzzing between them, kept me eagerly turning pages to see how everything would work out for them. This story had some of my favorite tropes, too, including brother’s best friend, an age gap, and even friends to more. Even though this is book two in the Jeopardy Falls series, it can absolutely be enjoyed without having read the first book.

And the romantic tension wasn’t the only thing great about this story. The suspense and inherent danger that Grayson and Riley find themselves in as they work to locate a missing woman was top notch, too. I liked that these two characters were so competent in their professions as private investigators. I felt like I got a peek into that lifestyle as they worked through the steps they needed to take to run this investigation.

Two Seconds Too Late was captivating from start to finish and dealt with some serious emotional issues that both Grayson and Riley struggled with. The author did a great job of reminding these characters of the importance on leaning on God to help them through these things.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey is the second book in the Jeopardy Falls series. While it reads well as a standalone, I highly recommend starting with book one — both are compelling and worth the read.
This story centers on Riley, one of three siblings (two brothers and a sister) who are building a name for themselves as private investigators while still coping with the scars of a traumatic childhood. Riley’s journey takes center stage here, and it’s one full of heart, courage, and danger.
Pettrey masterfully blends romance, suspense, and action throughout the story. The chemistry between Riley and Greyson is a highlight — their undercover mission at a couples retreat leads to some truly sweet and charming moments. They’re both characters you can root for, and their relationship feels authentic and emotionally satisfying.
All in all, this is a strong, well-balanced romantic suspense novel that fans of the genre will definitely enjoy. I highly recommend.

Swoon worthy kisses
violence - someone is trying to kill them, someone is beaten but we do not get the details, a cult is mentioned

Two Seconds Too Late is everything I want in a romantic suspense novel—gripping, emotional, and impossible to put down. From the very first page, the storyline pulls you in with high stakes and taut tension, and it never lets go. Dani Pettrey masterfully crafts a suspense plot that's like a tightly woven web—each new reveal only deepens the intrigue and heightens the danger.

The slowburn romance is beautifully done. You find yourself rooting for the main couple long before they even realize they're ready for each other. Their chemistry is undeniable, but it's the emotional journey they take—through danger, heartbreak, and healing—that makes their love story so satisfying. When they finally come together, it's the kind of moment that makes you want to cheer.

This is one of those stories that keeps you turning pages late into the night, needing to know what happens next. If you love stories where faith, love, and danger collide, Two Seconds Too Late absolutely delivers.

Riley has the job of locating people missing or hard to find. Greyson is a PI that is trying to thwart a hitman’s plan to eradicate a woman on the run. What is the woman’s secret? How will Riley and Greyson find a way to work together? Who are the men chasing all of them? Danger lurks around every corner. One minute everything is calm and peaceful and the next, bullets are flying.
This was a very heart pounding story that had me so involved that I wanted to shout out “look out!” The good guys are supposed to win, right?
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review.
