THANK YOU NETGALLEY! IT WAS A DREAM TO RECEIVE MY FIRST EVER ARC FROM ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE AUTHORS!!

I read this in practically one sitting. I have been a fan of Pettrey's writing since I discovered her Alaskan Courage series. Greyson and Riley reminded me a lot of Landon and Piper from that series with brother's best friend and little sister being one of the main tropes of this book. I've always loved an interconnected sibling series where we follow each sibling or a variation of them.

While there was a playful and flirty aspect of their relationship, there were deeper topics involved in this one, especially around depression and how we are meant to trust God daily with every aspect of our lives and just taking one day at a time without worrying about the future.

I am an absolute sucker for fake dating however I did feel like it was very short lived in this book. The description of the couples retreat and Greyson and Riley were going to be acting like a couple at the retreat was actually a small portion of the book. There was a build up about the retreat in itself but by the time Greyson and Riley get to the retreat it seems like it's over pretty quickly before they proceed with the rest of the case and storyline.

However, I absolutely love Pettrey's short chapters! It makes the reading experience fly by and the writing style was very easy to digest and follow along with.

On the heels of an art heist investigation (book 1), the sister of our past hero gets a mysterious visitor at their ranch. Upon coming to work, Riley finds out that one of her friends has gone missing when another friend calls her and hires them to find her. The catch? Now she needs to go undercover to a couple’s retreat with her coworker Greyson - the man she had a crush on for years as a teenager that had turned to love over the years. As these opposites work together in the field, the forced proximity and suspense in this high stakes Christian romantic suspense draw them closer together. There were a lot of points of view in this suspense read. I really enjoyed reading it and trying to figure out what all was going on in this best friend’s little sister, age gap (10 years) romance. Things definitely ramped up in the second half and I was fully pulled into the action and revelations. There was a good foundation set for book 3 as well. This was a just kisses romance. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Book 2 in the Jeopardy Falls series features Riley MacLeod's story. She, along with her brothers Deckard and Christian, as well as Greyson Chadwick own and operate MacLeod Investigations. Riley, an expert skip tracker, is contacted by an acquaintance to find a friend who has disappeared from a luxury spa in New Mexico. Going undercover as a couple at the spa, Riley and Greyson hope to find some answers. But suddenly they are in the crosshairs of first arrows then guns and it becomes a race against time. As they look for clues, a much more sinister plot emerges. Can they find the missing woman and her companion before those who want her dead succeed? Can Riley and Greyson outwit the criminals and keep themselves safe? Heart pounding suspense mingles with romantic undertones to keep you up way past bedtime!

What a ride! The relationship between Riley and Grey was so sweet. They kept saving each other emotionally and physically! Riley’s determination to face her past and to show Greyson the possibility for him to move on from his as well was inspiring. How often do we inspire others around us to become better than we are? To trust that God can work in us no matter what our past looks like? I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next!

Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey is an action packed thrill ride that delivers everything you want in a romantic suspense novel — danger, romance , and nail biting moments!

Riley MacLeod and Greyson Chadwick agree to pose as a couple while going under cover on a case and I couldn’t have been happier for that turn of events! Fake relationship tropes get me every time! These two friends have been hiding their feelings for each other for so long and it was really great to have a reason to bring all those feelings to the surface. Pettrey really balanced the simmering romance with high-stakes tension of the unexpected dangers of this case.
With each chapter the suspense is heightened and the plot becomes more intricate. The conclusion is intense and filled with pulse pounding danger for these characters! Just when you think things are settling down, Pettrey grabs you and sucks you into the next book in the series!

If you love romantic suspense that’s a fast paced, thrill and filled with heart, Two Seconds Too Late is must-read. Dani Pettrey proves once again that she will deliver action and romance! I can’t wait to read the next installment in the Jeopardy Falls series!

The latest book in the Jeopardy Falls series is absolutely compelling and breathtakingly complex. With settings that include a retreat, a reservation and Las Vegas, the action continues nonstop from beginning to end. Once skip tracer Riley finds out that a friend of hers is missing from a nearby spa and retreat, she and teammate Grayson go undercover to try to find out what happened to Kelly. What they find was not what they expected and so much worse than they imagined. The suspense in the story is woven in with the romance that is developing between the two main characters and is carefully plotted to be a crucial part of the story. There are some head-spinning twists that were brilliantly included and a strong message of hope for the future. The complicated plot included dual storylines that were edgy and that dovetailed fabulously in the satisfying conclusion. The characters were believable, working hard to overcome difficulties from their pasts and with personalities that were realistically flawed and lovable. The tension in the plot is relentless as Grayson and Riley race to find Kelly and the truth about her disappearance. This book presents Christian romantic suspense at its best, with family dynamics, developing romance and a mystery to be solved on a ticking clock timeline. Although part of a series, this book can be enjoyed all by itself, but I do highly recommend reading the first book, too, even if you read them out of order. The series is fantastic fiction!

I enjoyed the 2nd book in this series and would recommend the book to fans of Dani's other books. I thought the beginning was bit confusing with so many characters being introduced. I finally wrote down a list of each person and how they were related or connected to each other. After that, the story took off for me and I enjoyed the twists and turns as well as things the characters were dealing with personally. I would have enjoyed reading more about Christian and Andi from the first book, and enjoy it when an author blends a bit of the first book into the 2nd. That being said, you can read book 2 in the Jeopardy Falls series as a stand alone book. Sometimes the romantic aspect of Dani's books are a bit too "cutesy" for me but that is just my preference and doesn't impact my enjoyment of the story.

This suspense hits the ground running! Action-packed that will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting for what comes next! Be prepared to lose sleep because you can't put it down!

*note - can be read as a stand alone but best enjoyed when read in order

I received an ARC through Netgalley and all opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness, I'm not even sure where to start! First, I absolutely love the MacLeod siblings. They've gone through so much with each other but remained close and just love each other so much. And then there's Greyson - he's such a great partner to the three of them. I loved getting to know him throughout this story and learning the back story that turned him into the man he is today. He's such a great counterpoint to Riley!

And then there's the mystery. Riley and Greyson are tracking down Riley's friend Kelly. But there's so much more to this plot line. Hit men, cults, mysterious trinkets. It all pulls together to make a compelling mystery.

The story flowed from one action packed scene to the next so seamlessly that is was incredibly hard to put the book down when I had to be pulled away form my reading.

Then there's the ending! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment of Jeopardy Falls!

Book 2 of the Jeopardy Falls series was well worth the wait. A skip tracer, a PI, and hit men descend on a retreat. And a woman has disappeared. This is one of the best books I have read so far this year.

I received an advanced reader’s copy from the author and Netgalley. Opinions are my own.

Edge of your seat thriller from opening page to last page and beyond! Memorable characters, unique southwest location, and suspenseful plot with romance completing this high octane story! Definitely worth the read. This book was provided by the author and publisher through NetGalley for me to read. The opinions expressed here are my own thoughts.

Book two in the Jeopardy Falls series has Riley MacLeod and Grayson Chadwick teaming up to go undercover at a couples spa retreat. With friend Kelly gone missing, they try to find the reason Kelly left the spa abruptly. More confounding is why Riley recieves a key and a cryptic note.
While searching for clues, Gray and Riley find they can no longer deny the attraction growing between them, especially when they are posing as a couple. But each has baggage in their past that is putting a damper on romance. They both have a strong faith that they rely on to get them through the threatening situations and they count on their expertise as members of a private investigation team to hunt down answers, even as danger follows them.
Intense from start to finish, this was a page turner with interesting characters, a twisty plot and a sigh worthy romance.

Wow! This one sure kept me wondering if survival is even possible - for everyone involved. The mystery behind Expressive Wellness Retreat & Spa left me searching for some kind of facts that would make sense. With plenty of nightmares and bad memories, there is much to figure out. Can she and those helping her rely on the Lord for help? Would it be possible to stop carrying those things? Time to watch your back - Evil was coming your way.

An envelope with a locker key in it — Keep it safe at all costs. I’m trusting you. Riley Macleod of MacLeod Investigation and Security was no stranger to interesting cases, but this one turns out to be one for the books. With no idea what this is all about, her world and those she works with begin to take on a life of their own.

An ebook of Jeopardy Falls 2 was received through Baker Publishing Group, Bethany House Publishers, NetGalley and CelebrateLit. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

Two Seconds Too Late is an adrenaline-fueled, action-packed—Dani Pettrey has delivered another thrilling ride.

Riley MacLeod is a skip tracer for her family’s company. Unwilling to sit on the sidelines, she is an equal member alongside her brothers, Deckard and Christian, and their business partner and P.I., Greyson Chadwick, whom Riley admires. She is back in the field after having to shoot a man out to kill her and struggling with the guilt of taking a man’s life, even if it was self-defense.

When a friend leaves a mysterious package on her doorstep and disappears, Riley can't sit still. There is a mystery to be solved and a friend to be found. Battling demons from his past, Greyson usually stays out of the action. But Riley’s heading out into the field, and someone needs to watch her back, and who better than the man who secretly has feelings for her, something he would never act on because he has secrets too dark to bring to light.

Posing as a couple, they head to a luxury retreat to see if they can find clues leading them to Riley‘s missing friend. Each clue pulls them deeper into a mystery that puts them in more danger.

This book is full of non-stop action, danger, and high stakes. I didn’t want to put it down. Riley and Greyson make a good team who respect each other and work well together. I enjoyed watching Riley and Greyson struggle to maintain their professional distance while attraction grows between them. I also enjoyed seeing glimpses of her brother Deckard and Christian again. As I’ve come to expect, Dani Pettrey beautifully blends her action-packed storytelling style with thrilling suspense and heartwarming romance into a story we get the privilege of reading. Highly recommend!

This is a fast paced story full of action, revelation, mystery and attraction. I loved it from the very start and couldn't put it down. Riley has a secret problem that she doesn't really want anyone finding out, but when she is forced to go undercover with her co-worker and boss Greyson things have a way of coming out. Of course Greyson has his own issues and has held them close for far too long - can the close proximity with Riley help him to share and maybe open the door to an attraction they have both hidden for far too long? And how do they solve the missing person puzzle they have been employed for when they seem to become the hunted as well.
I have not read book 1 in the series but that in no way detracted from my enjoyment of this book. I thought this was a well set out book that was easy to follow through all the many twists and turns. The characters were real and it was good to see them work through their issues to become stronger at the end of the book. I enjoyed the way the writer integrated the characters' relationship with God into the story. I definitely recommend you read this book if you love action, mysteries and romance.

Review: Two Seconds Too Late by Dani Pettrey
(based on an advance reader copy)

"And knowing that I don't know when God will call me home, I, for one, want to live each day gifted to me as boldly as I can." He chuckled despite the serious nature of the conversation. "You've got the bold part down."

Two Seconds Too Late is a riveting, action-packed novel with plenty of romance tropes to make you fall in love. Bold is the perfect word to describe both the characters and the events that unfold. Between the romance, the danger, the haunting pasts, and the strong family ties, there are so many moments that demand boldness—and the characters deliver.

After reading the first novel in the Jeopardy Falls Series, I was hooked and eagerly waiting for more. I was especially excited for the slow burn between Riley MacLeod, a private investigator and skip tracer, and Greyson Chadwick, a private investigator with a military past. Both of these characters carry heavy emotional baggage, but rather than bonding over trauma, they challenge each other to find hope and peace.

This book is a true page-turner when it comes to suspense, often involving high-stakes scenarios. Each thrilling chapter reveals secrets and clues, with puzzle pieces coming together beautifully. I appreciated the multiple points of view, which allow readers to understand the reasoning behind certain actions. And in the midst of these exciting moments, a tender love begins to bloom—dangerous circumstances revealing emotions they have worked hard to bury.

One of my favorite aspects of this romance was the wide range of tropes. As someone who loves a story rich in romantic tension, I was thrilled by the slow burn, fake dating, forced proximity, and very protective MMC (male main character). Even though the romance developed slowly, the tender moments during their fake dating kept me invested the whole way through. A clean romance with passion and longing is hard to come by, but this one absolutely delivers.

Overall, if you’re looking for a clean romance with fervent love, high-stakes action, and admirable themes of family and morality, this is the perfect read. There wasn’t a single “slow” moment that made me want to take a break—I truly couldn’t put it down. I’m already looking forward to whatever comes next in the Jeopardy Falls Series.

First off, thank you NetGalley and Baker Publishing Group for the chance to read this book early in exchange for an honest review.

I love Dani Pettrey's writing, so when I saw the link to request an early access copy on her Instagram, I jumped at the chance. I haven't read the first book in this series yet (whoops) so I was going in blind on all the characters, but I was able to catch right up.

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy reading about PIs as much as I do Dani Pettrey's Coast Guard series, but I was pleasantly surprised. This has all the twists and action I love from her books, and the romance between Riley and Greyson was somehow even better. A friends-to-lovers plot is always a win in my book (And fake dating?? Give me more, please!).

Unlike some romantic suspense where the character's reasons for not being together are a little contrived, I could understand why they (especially Greyson) had some hesitation. And we see him making real effort to get over his problems, which I appreciated.

There were some lulls at the beginning and maybe a few too many POVs, which is the only reason this isn't getting 5 stars. I will be happily picking up One Wrong Move soon though, and I'll be chomping at the bit for Book #3. (I can already tell I'm going to be obsessed with Deck and Harper.)

This novel got off to a bit of a rough start for me. The narrative jumps around before it settles into a cohesive story. The initial short vignettes with different points of view do set the stage for expectation of suspense, however. It was difficult for me to understand why Riley would so quickly and fervently jump into investigating Kelly's disappearance. A little backstory on their relationship would have helped prepare readers for the ensuing action by Riley.

I like it when there is a good balance of personal relationship development and suspenseful action in a novel. Pettrey has given readers a much heavier dose of relationship tension and development in this novel from near the beginning. Much of the tension is from physical attraction. The relationship development is a bit repetitive, kissing then pulling back, repeat. This novel has the greatest emphasis on physical attraction I think I have ever seen in a Christian romantic suspense.

There is a good deal of suspense that builds as we near the end of the book. And a strong faith message is included. This is a novel for readers who like an inspirational romantic suspense with a heavy emphasis on the romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Since it had been over a year since I read the first book in this series, One Wrong Move, I went back and re-read it, and was glad I did. If you haven’t already read book one, I recommend reading it first, just to get the characters and general setting in mind.

This is a good book to read when you’re feeling hot – lots of people lost in snowstorms and falling into icy rivers! The plot is a lot different from book one – instead of art gallery robberies and finding the thieves, this one is about finding missing people. Of course, there’s always sorting out which are the good guys and which are the villains. Mix in two main characters who are in love with each other, don’t realize it’s mutual, and have to play act they are lovers. So lots of romantic tension on top of all the people being chased by the villains.

Once again Pettrey delivers a fast-paced story that sucks in the reader, mixes in applying faith to the challenges of life, includes a great love story, and ends on a cliff-hanger!

I can hardly wait for book three!

The Jeopardy Falls series sounded incredibly promising to me. A family of siblings who survived a rough start to life, who escaped their con artist parents’ legacy and their hometown of Vegas. To make amends for their early lives of crime, three of these four siblings become security experts or private investigators. I love this kind of redemption story, especially when sibling bonds are so vital to the plot. However, One Wrong Move fell a bit flat for me. I was interested enough in the characters to continue the story in Two Seconds Too Late, the second installment. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with this one any more strongly than I did with its predecessor.

There were some elements I enjoyed. I found the case interesting and layered, though I do wish those layers had been further explored. The romance contained a lot of very popular tropes. We have friends to more, fake dating, mutual pining, opposites attract, and a slight age gap. Which means that, for readers who are more interested in the romance part of romantic suspense than they are in the suspense, I can see this working well for them. The settings, especially the snowy couples’ retreat in the mountains, were well drawn. There’s also a deep dive into family histories of suicide and depression, and living with the possibility of succumbing to the same looming over your head, that was fairly well handled, if a bit awkward in its conveyance.

The story gets off to a slow start, but it’s an interesting enough story. My biggest problem is that it did a lot of telling instead of showing, making it impossible to connect on any kind of emotional level. Which is likely why I often found myself rolling my eyes at the romantic elements. I also think the romantic elements get more page time than they should as the characters are engaged in so tense a case. For instance, when someone is shot, a lot more time is spent on the sexual tension during the cleaning of the wound than on the action that led to the injury in the first place.

Something about Pettrey's style doesn't land for me. It feels immature and cliche. Lackluster. Her dialogue comes across as stiff, outdated, and unrealistic to me. As so some of her characters’ inner thought lives. This was especially bothersome in the romance department. There was so much "he only views me as a friend" and "she doesn't look at me that way" when all signs point in the opposite direction. It drove me a little bit bonkers.

There's a nice, tidy ending to the particular plot of this installment, but a couple of important plotlines for the future were opened up and purposefully left hanging. Which is a really smart way of ensuring that readers return to the next installment when it drops. However, I don’t think I’m going to be one of those readers. I do have a couple of other completed series from Pettrey on my shelf, so I’m not writing her off completely. I just don’t think I’m the right reader for her work.
