Since it had been over a year since I read the first book in this series, One Wrong Move, I went back and re-read it, and was glad I did. If you haven’t already read book one, I recommend reading it first, just to get the characters and general setting in mind.

This is a good book to read when you’re feeling hot – lots of people lost in snowstorms and falling into icy rivers! The plot is a lot different from book one – instead of art gallery robberies and finding the thieves, this one is about finding missing people. Of course, there’s always sorting out which are the good guys and which are the villains. Mix in two main characters who are in love with each other, don’t realize it’s mutual, and have to play act they are lovers. So lots of romantic tension on top of all the people being chased by the villains.

Once again Pettrey delivers a fast-paced story that sucks in the reader, mixes in applying faith to the challenges of life, includes a great love story, and ends on a cliff-hanger!

I can hardly wait for book three!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #TwoSecondsTooLate #NetGalley #JeopardyFallsSeries

The Jeopardy Falls series sounded incredibly promising to me. A family of siblings who survived a rough start to life, who escaped their con artist parents’ legacy and their hometown of Vegas. To make amends for their early lives of crime, three of these four siblings become security experts or private investigators. I love this kind of redemption story, especially when sibling bonds are so vital to the plot. However, One Wrong Move fell a bit flat for me. I was interested enough in the characters to continue the story in Two Seconds Too Late, the second installment. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with this one any more strongly than I did with its predecessor.

There were some elements I enjoyed. I found the case interesting and layered, though I do wish those layers had been further explored. The romance contained a lot of very popular tropes. We have friends to more, fake dating, mutual pining, opposites attract, and a slight age gap. Which means that, for readers who are more interested in the romance part of romantic suspense than they are in the suspense, I can see this working well for them. The settings, especially the snowy couples’ retreat in the mountains, were well drawn. There’s also a deep dive into family histories of suicide and depression, and living with the possibility of succumbing to the same looming over your head, that was fairly well handled, if a bit awkward in its conveyance.

The story gets off to a slow start, but it’s an interesting enough story. My biggest problem is that it did a lot of telling instead of showing, making it impossible to connect on any kind of emotional level. Which is likely why I often found myself rolling my eyes at the romantic elements. I also think the romantic elements get more page time than they should as the characters are engaged in so tense a case. For instance, when someone is shot, a lot more time is spent on the sexual tension during the cleaning of the wound than on the action that led to the injury in the first place.

Something about Pettrey's style doesn't land for me. It feels immature and cliche. Lackluster. Her dialogue comes across as stiff, outdated, and unrealistic to me. As so some of her characters’ inner thought lives. This was especially bothersome in the romance department. There was so much "he only views me as a friend" and "she doesn't look at me that way" when all signs point in the opposite direction. It drove me a little bit bonkers.

There's a nice, tidy ending to the particular plot of this installment, but a couple of important plotlines for the future were opened up and purposefully left hanging. Which is a really smart way of ensuring that readers return to the next installment when it drops. However, I don’t think I’m going to be one of those readers. I do have a couple of other completed series from Pettrey on my shelf, so I’m not writing her off completely. I just don’t think I’m the right reader for her work.

Book 2 of Jeopardy Falls series, focus on the MacLeod little sister, Riley as the FMC with Greyson working with her to solve a missing person case through their PI business.

This book has solid character development, unpacking PTSD experiences for the two MCs. While they are in search of a missing friend that has gotten in over her head on avenging those from her past.

For the romance readers, tropes: fake relationship and forced proximity.

For thriller lovers, a chase against time between ex military baddies working for a serial killer and the PI/ ex military good guys (and gal).

This was my first Dani Pettrey book, I enjoyed the Christian Thriller, a clean read packed with action, suspense, romance and faith. Look forward to going back to book 1 and forward to the next to come with the cliffhanger ending!

Two Seconds Too Late is a fantastic follow up to One Wrong Move in the Jeopardy Falls series. We've already gotten to know Riley and Greyson a bit in book one, and I, for one, was very excited to get to their story! I was so glad it was second. I am a sucker for the age gap, brother's best friend tropes, and this one does not disappoint! (The fake dating they were thrown into for a while didn't hurt, either!) I loved every bit of Riley and Greyson's love story. It's woven expertly into the case they end up working together, with the fact that they need to pose as a couple in order to investigate the mysterious disappearance of an acquaintance. Of course, they've known each other for years, so it doesn't feel like the romance is too rushed; they just needed the perfect push to get out of their comfort zones. I always love Dani Pettrey's suspense, also, but in this case, my favorite part is the romance. The suspense is great, too, and there are multiple nail-biting moments that kept me turning pages well into the night. For me, they also highlighted Riley and Greyson's relationship, and his care for her, even at the very beginning. And the end! I can't wait for book 3!!

Fast paced suspense with a well-developed plot. A young woman disappears from a couples retreat and a team of PI's join forces to find her. This is the second book in the series but can totally be enjoyed as a standalone. With a fairly large cast of characters, it took a little while for each to fall into their place as Reilly and Greyson slowly unraveled the threads of this multi-layered mystery. I loved the dynamics between Riley and Greyson. While the romance was fun, it was not the main focus of the story.

I absolutely loved the direction Ms. Pettrey took this story. It was expertly plotted, as she skillfully parceled out clues to keep readers on the edge of their seats. With lots of unexpected twists and turns and danger awaiting around every corner, I found this explosively adventurous story delightfully entertaining. Woven throughout is a string faith thread that is not forced but organically part of the main characters journey of faith.

Ms. Pettrey's skillful foreshadowing at the end has me waiting impatiently for the next book in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Fans of fast-paced romantic suspense books will love this upcoming release of "Too Seconds Too Late", the second in a series by Dani Pettrey. Right from the first line of the book, the reader is drawn in and kept engaged in this book of chasing someone while being chased to solve this suspenseful mystery. The reader goes from place-to-place with main characters, Riley and Greyson, both private investigators, to find out why Riley's friend drops off a key at her house and takes off.

Both Riley and her friend are being chased over this key, and the mystery of what it's for throughout the book. As Riley and Greyson, working with Riley's brothers try to figure out where the friend has gone, the two of them fight past struggles and a building friends to more romance throughout. Mental health struggles are discussed in the book, but done in a caring manner by the author. There are strong faith elements woven in this book which provide a light to the darkness.

I hadn't read the first book in the series but was able to jump right in where this one picked up. The ending leads the reader into the next book, so there will definitely be another one after this that I will want to read! This book is suitable for adult readers - not recommended for anyone under 18 due to topics discussed in the book. I felt the book did a great job wrapping up this mystery and the romance.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Riley MacLeod, her brothers, and Greyson Chadwick are all part of an investigation firm that becomes involved in a missing persons case. What Riley doesn’t realize that she has received a critical part of the key to Kelly’s disappearance.

With action and suspense at every turn, the author keeps you engaged in the story. It was rewarding to see justice served to the villain and the case being brought to an end. If you like a romance with your story, you’ll enjoy the relationship that deepens between Riley and Greyson. Her overprotective brothers made me smile as they make sure their will be consequences should things not go well with the couple.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit and NetGalley. All opinions are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review.

As usual you are in for a lot of action, and this being the second book in this series, we are back with those that we have come to care about!
This is Christian's sister story Riley, also a Private Investigator and Greyson pose as a couple at a luxury resort to help find her friend Kelly.
This is a deep story, there is a lot going on here and a lot of evil lurking, where all looks fine on the surface, women are missing. Riley's friend is acting like a Robin Hood, and is really in danger, which has now been put on Riley and Greyson.
You will find yourself ducking bullets, and taking many modes of transportation to escape whom ever seems to want them dead.
Answers do come, and why? Journeying for answers is full of danger, and we don't know whom will survive to the end.
There is some sweet romance offered here, but what will come of it? There is also a big bombshell offered at the end, and now I can't wait for the next book in this series!
I received this book through Celebrate Lit Bloggers, and was not required to give a positive review.

Two Seconds Too Late is a fast-paced, suspenseful, and mysterious story. I was hooked from the beginning. Riley, the head of a P.I. firm, along with her brothers, take on a missing person's case. Riley's friend, Kelly, is the missing person, and things take a weird turn after that. Riley suffers from nightmares from the past. Her friend, Grayson, a helper in the case, also suffers from the ghosts of his past, making the investigation more difficult.

I was taken on a roller-coaster ride of suspense, wondering who the bad guys were. The slow-burn romance between Riley and Grayson was fun, and I enjoyed the playful banter. The faith element was woven into the story in a non-preachy way.

Everything wrapped up nicely in the end. This is another great read in the Jeopardy Falls series. I received an ARC from Netgalley and Celebrate Lit; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

This book held my interest from the beginning. I was anxious to see how the story would end!

I liked the romance combined with the suspense in the story.
Riley and her brothers are private investigators. She is asked to help when a friend goes missing. Greyson another private investigator, and friend of the family joins in the case.

Riley soon finds herself in a fake dating situation when she and Grey go to the place where her friend was last seen. Riley soon learns that her friend was into some shady dealings, and she and Grey soon find themselves in some dangerous situations.

I loved the friendship and building romance between Riley and Grey. Though they had been friends for a long time, they still got to learn about each other. Both having issues from the past that were affecting their everyday lives. Riley and Grey turned to prayer to get through difficult times in their case and when they needed guidance in their personal issues.

I hope to read other books in this series. I received an e-arc of Two Seconds Too Late for review. All views expressed are my honest opinions.

amazing Dani Pettrey never fails to deliver a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and this one was certainly no exception. Admittedly, there were a lot of characters to keep track of in the beginning, which took me a little longer to straighten out in my head, but once I did, I was hooked. When a woman (Kelly) goes missing from a couple's retreat, Riley and Greyson go undercover as a couple to see if they can learn what has happened to her. With danger around every corner, this story takes us on a chase that will keep you on the edge of your seat... with a fantastic romance blossoming throughout as well (though the suspense certainly takes center stage with this one). There were enough twists and turns to keep things interesting, holding my attention right through to the end. And that ending!? Yes, it certainly has me looking forward to the next book too! If you love Christian romantic suspense, this is certainly one to check out.

Riley MacLeod’s childhood dragged her through the dark underbelly of Sin City, leaving her with emotional scars, but also developing her ability to find missing people when nobody else can. When a friend of hers disappears from a spa retreat under suspicious circumstances, Riley calls on her coworker Greyson Chadwick to help her find out what happened. With a killer on their tail, the hunters become the hunted, and they find themselves in a race to uncover the truth before it’s too late.

I was so excited to receive an ARC copy of this book, because I’ve been dying to read Riley’s story from the beginning of the series. When I found out that her book would be next, I couldn’t wait!! From the explosive start of the book to the cliffhanger ending, this one kept me so engaged that I didn’t put it down until I finished it. I’m loving this series, and I can’t wait for book three!

You know when it’s freezing outside and you hop into a warm vehicle with heated seats? It makes the ride easier, right? There were a few moments when I felt that I’d got into a cold car and cold seats and it took a while to get comfortable with this book; my curiosity was hampered by what I felt was too much to process all at once.

That being said, once I got going, it was a fantastic read. The characters stepped out of the blur, boldly showed me who they were and the extreme challenges they were dealing with, igniting my desire to continue. Kelly Frasier presented a time sensitive problem that I wanted to see resolved, the author gave me an emotional and intellectual reason to keep reading, and I was involved in the high stakes and motivation.

I doubted the skip tracer’s unorthodox methods, understood the meticulous approach of the private investigator and was caught up in a pulse pounding narrative that kept me wondering if Riley and Greyson would be ‘two seconds too late.’

I loved the concept of ‘borrowing trouble’.

This is book two of Dani Pettrey’s Jeopardy Falls series, but it can be read as a standalone.

I was gifted this copy by Bethany House and was under no obligation to provide a review.

After reading One Wrong Move last year, I knew I was in for a treat with Two Seconds Too Late, Dani Pettrey’s second Jeopardy Falls novel, and I was not disappointed!

Two Seconds Too Late opens with a bang—literally—as a bullet barely misses Riley MacLeod mere moments before she is forced to take a man’s life. Now drowning in guilt, this plucky PI receives an envelope at home containing a nondescript locker key and an ominous message, “Keep it safe at all costs. I’m trusting you,” hours before finding out her new friend, Kelly Frazier, has mysteriously disappeared from a high-end resort during a couples’ retreat. Could the two be related?

Tasked with uncovering the truth about her friend’s disappearance, Riley MacLeod goes undercover at the resort retreat, posing as a couple with her fellow PI, Greyson Chadwick. The two quickly discover that all is not as it seems—and they find that this case is way more complex and dangerous than they could have ever imagined.

As a whole, Two Seconds Too Late is an excellent story, full of mystery and suspense, twists and turns, humor and romance. Riley and Greyson are both interesting, complex characters, who bring out the best in one another. It was truly a delight to see them grow separately and together throughout the pages of this book.

I would describe the major theme of this novel as surrender, specifically surrender to God. While the book itself is not overtly Christian, the message of surrender is deftly and delicately woven through every chapter, and the reader is invited to consider what aspects of their own life have yet to be laid at the feet of the Savior.

In that vein, some noteworthy quotes include:

“Talking about it helps. Holding things inside only lets them fester—grow bigger.”

“Stop carrying what isn’t yours…”

“Surrender it to God, luv. Let Him work on the part of your heart that’s still wrestling with it.”

Readers who are fans of Kristen Heitzmann, Dee Henderson, Colleen Coble, and Lynn Blackburn will enjoy Two Seconds Too Late. And I am positive that they, like me, will be eagerly awaiting the next installment of Pettrey’s Jeopardy Falls series.

Two couples, one on the run and one seeking answers, Two Seconds Too Late is full of enough twists and turns to make you dizzy.

A mysterious key, a missing friend, and danger around every corner is just the beginning for Riley MacLeod. When Kelly disappears from a wellness retreat Riley goes undercover with Greyson, her secret crush. Then things get interesting.

For me this book was hard to get into to at the beginning. It may have been the two groups of people to follow. I’m not sure, but as I got into the book I began to connect more with the story. Dani Pettrey is one of my favorite authors and I look forward to her next book.

I received a copy courtesy of Bethany House through NetGalley and Interviews and Reviews.

This series just keeps getting better and better. 2nd book in the series I feel this one has more action in it.
I was kept on the edge of my seat and holding my breath in certain scenes.
Riley and Grayson are two of my favorite people. I enjoyed in getting to know them.
They know how to get things done.
A wonderful plot that sometimes makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and will make you feel that someone's actually watching you. A scary feeling for sure.
I also loved the slow burn romance between these two people. I found myself rooting for them.
This book also has the right amount of faith in it which I loved. It was one of the many reasons that I kept turning the pages.
I also learned a few things from this story as well.
Petry does an amazing job in keeping her readers entertained and taking a few lessons in life away with them long after the story is finished.
I just really enjoyed the story of Riley and Grayson. I was sad when it ended but also pleased. It made my heart full and satisfied.
5 stars for the excellent writing and for keeping the story realistic.
I highly recommend
My thanks to Interviews and Reviews for a copy of this book from Bethany House publishers via Netgalley.
