The Beautiful Ashes
Broken Destiny, Book 1
I Picked Up This Book Because: I am a fan of the author’s other series.
The Characters:
Ivy:
Adrain:
Jasmine, Zack
The Story:
While searching for her missing sister Ivy learns something she can barely believe. Angels and demons are real, they are battling a war and they want her. As the last ancestor of David, Ivy has the power to make or break the war for one side. The demons have kidnapped her sister to lure her to them but with the help of the Adrian (and the arcon Zack) she is off on a quest to find a weapon that will kill the demons and free her sister.
This story was fast paced, many layered and full of secrets until the very end. If I were Ivy I’d be sitting in a corner rocking. Demon realms are nasty and she has to search quite a few. There is also forbidden or love between Ivy and Adrian and I found their chemistry to be H-O-T.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I am quite angry as I write this as I can not get the next book until tomorrow. I swear I’d be half way through it now if I could.
The Random Thoughts:
4 Stars

(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who's bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.
Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between….
Oh dear...
This was bad...
"Drop it in the gutter, kick it on the way past" kind of bad...
Ivy was as stupid a character as I think I have ever read. Every single action made me want to reach into the Kindle and scream at her. Dumb as two bricks.
Adrian was the typical rape-y, sexist asshole that we come to expect from these kinds of books. Why some people find these stereotypes to be excellent is well beyond me...
The relationship is ridiculous - he kidnaps her, she falls in love. He tells her nothing and she falls at his feet. Stand up for yourself girl.
Also, there is a demon named "Mayhemium" - I kid you not.
It's a YA-wannabe paranormal romance that misses absolutely every mark on its way down the tubes...
