This was a sweet book with a very off the wall and whimsical ending. The illustrations were well done and a little quirky.

Kind of cute and silly, but it took a turn for the bizarre near the end and lost me. Some kids might like it.

Modern day family fairytale told through breadcrumbs and birds— a long-lived life is filled with an evolving family’s love. This tale is of an ordinary life well-lived and filled with magical realism. We are shown a child growing into a mother, growing into a grandmother, and transversing with love and imagination and the journey of living, and the journey is beautiful. Those who love birds, dogs, and cooking will find themselves in these pages. The illustrations throughout are heartwarming and have a handmade quality to them that is endearing. There is a kindness, a gentle quiet love to the pages that is both beautiful and touching. There is also magic and joy that helps carry the reality to a place more impactful and full of a wonder for life. This book reminds me of those I have loved through many stages of their living, and it connects me to those I will always love but can only see in my memories or in symbols found in daily life—the breadcrumbs that connect us forever, like stars, like dreams.

Vivid and quirky art. The story however, felt a bit flat for me. And, worse, the matriarchal main character is essentially defined by the crumbs on her clothes. The whole thing had a subtle ridiculing / bullying / condescending vibe, which I didn't like. I actually felt sorry for the main character.

This book is able to share the feeling of grief for those readers who might be experiencing their first loss.

The story follows Mommy Crumbs who takes great joy in cooking her family. As she moves through life, she faces moments of loss—most notably the death of her beloved dog, who had been a constant companion. She keeps his memory alive with a framed picture, a reminder of the bond they shared.
As Mommy Crumbs grows older and becomes a grandmother, her grandchild gifts her a bird to help "eat" Mommy Crumbs leaves behind in her cooking. Over time, the bird grows larger than Mommy Crumbs herself, and eventually, she is taken away. The story delicately explores themes of life, death, and the loving memories we hold for those who have passed.
The illustrations are beautiful.

Truly beautiful story. I can't stress enough how important it is for little ones to have books such as this one. Books that touch on death and loss in an easy-to-understand way that isn't a total downer. This book recognizes that losing a loved one will still hurt, but there is still the memories that you keep. Prior to the loss part, though, was a story about a life. I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say that the plot was clear and defined. Everything was cohesive, yet still artful. The artful aspect was partially due to the beautiful, fun, and amazing illustrations. They were simple, but still gave life to entire pages with vibrant colors and crisp lines.
Bravo!

The character of Mommy Crumbs is endearing but basically she feeds her loved ones, frequently has bread crumbs on her clothes, and very randomly flies away at the end on a big chicken. Not much plot other than that.

A little girl named Paula dreamed of what she wanted to be when she grew up. She did grow up and decided she wanted to cook for her family, which always left her with crumbs on her clothes. As her family grew, she aged into grand parenthood,, and her grandchildren began to call her a mommy Crumbs because she always had crumbs on her. Eventually, they give her a baby bird that grows huge from eating all the crumbs and they fly away together. Grandma just leaves on the bird. I thought that was strange and could’ve ended better. This story was a cute idea, but the storyline kinda fell flat.

What a lovely story of “Mommy Crumbs”, written in a style reminiscent of a fable it tells the story of a little girl who grew into a woman who loved her family and loved to cook and feed them.
The story ends with an imaginative departure where she is fondly remembered after flying off with her giant chicken.
The pictures are bright and fun, and the text is easy to read and short enough to hold the attention of young children.

This story was clearly such a labor of love, as written by a mother and son. It tells the tale of 'Mommy Crumbs', a woman so affectionately nicknamed by her children and grandchildren because of the constant breadcrumbs she sports on her clothing! The story follows her and her family through her life, loves, and losses.
While ultimately bittersweet, Mommy Crumbs is an adorably unique tale with engaging, vibrant illustrations.

Mommy Crumbs follows a girl as she becomes a woman, and the important things in her life along the way. The plot is mostly lighthearted, but it does address death in an abstract way, so be prepared for that before sitting down to read with your kiddo. I loved the illustrations, especially the animals who wore glasses like Mommy Crumbs!
