This so wasn't what I was expecting. Looking at the cover and knowing that Monica writes these awesome new adult books I just dived right in. And this was more than I expected. This book is about second chances and I thought at first it was going to be a light romance, I was not prepared for the mystery that unfolded.

Nick is freshly out of jail, while he was in there his entire life has imploded. Nick is here to stack his money, keep himself hidden and find a way to get out of the this small town that has cost him so much, he doesn't want anything to mess with his plans. Then there is Reverie Hale daughter/Princess of the Hale family, sweeter than sugar, she is blind/naive sheltered and so clueless it makes your teeth hurt.

One of my favorite characters is Nick's friend Michael because he was one of the few people who was seeing things as they were. He was also the voice of reason, he tried to show Nick all the ropes and protect Nick, but you can only protect someone as much as they will allow. I really enjoyed how the story came together because the characters that we actually meet written pretty well. The story is told mostly through Nick's eyes, so we only know what he knows and all we have is his perspective of the characters. A few of the characters only grew as characters the more they interacted with Nick, otherwise they were kind of just names.

I loved that this was at the beach for summer and it was surrounded by woods that were so well described you felt like you were there at the lake having fun with them. This book focused on the second chances that Nick needed, how much he wished he was someone who deserved Rev. We also got the reason he ended up in prison and Rev learning to see beyond the smoke screen of her family.

Going in there was no clue about the mystery. There was no hint that there was going to be a scandal that would blow Rev and Nick apart. My favorite part of the book of course came close to the end, Because oh my gawd what the hell was that??? How can someone be that terrible and you never see it?? There are a few things that I couldn't stand. At times Nick's inner thoughts when it came to his ex. He would constantly say he didn't judge her for enjoying sex but then use terms that clearly judged and slut shamed her even if it was only in his head. I also had an issue with his insistence that Rev was 'innocent' and kept going over that description every time he thought about her.

**Bit of a Spoiler here**

Also then there is Rev, she is a Christian girl who is a part of a family that is well known in the Evangelical field. Her father has made a big deal about her remaining a virgin until marriage and she had a huge party celebrating her pact. *Now I personally have sooo many issues with this, but whatever do you* Yet when she breaks this pact she seems to only feel a small amount of remorse. I know women who waited until marriage and still had issues with it since they had been pushed to hold onto this thing for so long and I know women who totally dived into being sexual beings with no issues. I just wish that if she was written as such a strong Christian girl that she had more issues with it.

There are a few things that were left unexplained however there is a second book so I'm hoping they get solved there. I do have a bone to pick with the genre in particular, can we have mature adults that actually adult?? It seems like the new thing is for there to be no adults in these kids lives, they either die or they are just shyt as adults. My gawd all adults can't be this terrible.

If you enjoyed this book I highly recommend Monica's other books as well. And Chris Myers Blackout, Raine by JC Valentine is another good suggestion.

Is life ever how we expect it to be? His Reverie is a great reminder that life is never what we expect it to be.

We first meet Nick as he is leaving prison for a crime he didn't commit. While everyone says that they didn't commit a crime, Nick honestly swears that he in fact did not murder someone. He is released on these pretenses that he in fact did not murder someone. He shifts back into his life with his ex-girlfriend quite easily, and continues his relationship with her even though he is captured by Reverie Hale.

I really did love the characters, and their connection that they have. They really act upon the whole forbidden romance that has evolved between the two of them. I feel that the forbidden love that the two of them share really kept the story upbeat, and interesting. I really liked both, Nick, and Reverie as their relationship grew through the book. I feel that they will have a better understanding of one another when the second book in the series comes out.

The only reason I gave His Reverie a three star is because of the cliffhanger. I am a really impatient reader, and like to read a series that I enjoyed back to back. However, don't let this sway you! If you like forbidden romances, and an interesting story line, this is the book for you
