Equal parts pasta manual and hilarious manifesto, Your Pasta Sucks is exactly what you’d expect from Matteo Lane — bold, unapologetic, wildly funny, and secretly full of solid culinary advice. Whether you’ve been following Matteo online for years or are just pasta-curious, this book delivers.
The recipes are surprisingly legit. Matteo knows what he’s doing, and between the irreverent jokes and spicy commentary, there’s some really helpful technique buried in all the sass. I appreciated the homemade pasta walkthrough, the hot takes on alfredo, and the very loud, very Italian energy throughout. Bonus points for the fold-out poster — completely ridiculous and completely on-brand.
It’s not the kind of cookbook you use to plan a week of dinners — it’s the one you flip through for inspiration, vibes, and a good laugh while you boil water and question your life choices. Could there have been a bit more structure or clearer formatting in a few places? Maybe. But honestly, that kind of chaos is part of the charm.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC! I’ll never look at penne alla vodka the same way again 🍝🔥

A decent cook book about pasta. If one is familiar with the author then they might like this one in particular, but otherwise it's a fairly straightforward pasta recipe collection.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this cookbook!
I really loved this, both as a read and as a cookbook. As someone who doesn't normally enjoy pasta (I know, weird), I really enjoyed this book and found the recipes accessible. Plus, Matteo Lane is hilarious, so it made the book an enjoyable read. Highly recommend!

There are thousands of Pasta cookbooks out there, and Mateo Lane’s, Your Pasta Sucks: A "Cookbook" is my hands-down favorite. While it doesn’t have hundreds of different Italian recipes, it does have plenty of doable recipes that are very appealing. It does contain most of the classics, however. What is really nice about this cookbook is that the recipes are actual real Italian family recipes that turn out delicious. Most of the recipes have been given to the author by family members like Gram Gram, Aunt Cheryl, or sister Kate. While reading, you get to know his family members as well as plenty of facts about Italian culture. Believe it or not, most readers won’t be able to put it down before reading it cover to cover.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients (most readily available at mainstream grocery stores) listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions. They are easily made by anyone, whether it be a beginning or advanced cook. The recipes are accompanied by beautiful, professional photographs of the mouthwatering dishes.
However, my favorite part is that it is really funny. It is a cookbook to read in a cozy corner and laugh until it’s time to prepare one of the dishes that strike your fancy from the book, since laughing that hard will make you very hungry. Whether you are a cook or not, you will want to own this excellent and funny book.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

This was pretty fun! I loved the humor throughout and the recipes were actually interesting and pretty simple. The photography is also gorgeous!

To be clear, my pasta never sucks. What else doesn’t suck? This book! This is so funny and really good! And I NEVER joke about pasta

Matteo is a hilarious comedian and writes a very entertaining cookbook. I will definitely be taking some of these to try out in my kitchen.

This is a great cookbook! The writing is fun and the recipes are really easy to follow. There are recipes for everyone of all cooking levels. The ingredients are easy to find. The photos are creative and showcase all the recipes well. I'm most excited to try the Pasta Della Mamma, Family Meat Sauce,Cotoletta,Lasagna,Cherie's Struffololi and Nick's Infamous Mac and Cheese. I would recommend this! Special Thank You to Matteo Lane,J.J. Goode, Chronicle Books, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

As an Italian-American who follows Matteo Lane on IG, this was an immediate download for me.
A cookbook that has easy, practical, and delicious recipes with Lane’s humor generously sprinkled onto each page? What more could you ask for. I’ve already made three of the recipes in here and one of them is now a staple in my house, on heavy rotation. This is the most faithful Italian cookbook I’ve seen in that it really captures how most Italians cook by just throwing things together without any real measurements. Matteo Lane gets it and conveys it so well.
Honestly, my one critique of this is that I wish there were more recipes. I could have used fewer interviews with his friends and more ways to incorporate cheese into my pastas.
This is a great cookbook and I’m so glad it’s come into my life.

Your Pasta Sucks, A “Cookbook” by Matteo Lane is absolutely everything I was hoping it would be. I have seen his stand up and his YouTube videos, so I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across his cookbook! The humor is exactly what I was hoping for, the pictures are vibrantly beautiful, and the recipes are easy to follow with ingredients that I might actually have on hand. I loved reading about his large family (two actually) and also seeing familiar faces of his found family. I am not Italian, but I genuinely laughed out loud at the section about how to tell if you have a Nonna. (I, sadly, do not.) I genuinely enjoyed this cookbook and recommend it to anyone who wants to know how to cook like an “Italian, Irish, Mexican, Homosexual”. Bravo Matteo! Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

This is a fun and informative cookbook all about pasta. As someone who loves all forms of pasta, I cant wait to add this book to my cookbook collection. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Matteo Lane's Your Pasta Sucks is probably the most entertaining and irreverent cookbook you'll buy all year. I'd never heard of Lane before and found his descriptions of his family history were hilarious and audacious. The recipes are easy to follow and, having made several, they are tasty. People looking for a quick and easy Italian cookbook, as well as Matteo Lane fans will enjoy this cookbook.

I saw Matteo Lane eating pasta on the cover, while wearing a skimpy apron and had to buy it for my friend's birthday, but I'm keeping it!
What an absolutely beautiful book. Matteo's recipe instructions are hilarious, yet understandable.
The photography is amazing and it has an appealing format.
I like the recipes because the ingredients he uses are what I would buy at the grocery store anyway.
He explains why the type of pasta to use varies from dish to dish and why it is better to splurge on the good stuff - for more starch in the precious pasta water!
And finally, the basics are written down clearly to make a perfect dish - from a simple red sauce to the heavenly Tiramisu.
I think I may even find my pasta making attachment and try the ravioli press that I bought 10 years ago and never used.

As an amateur cook, I can’t really speak to how good the recipes are—but as a fan of stand-up comedy, this book is an absolute gem! I loved reading every word of it and would go down the rabbit hole of homecooked italian food just for the joy of hearing Matteo's sassy preaching in my head!

thank you to netgalley for the e-arc. i made 3 recipesf rom the book and all turned out fine. nothing was special about them and i don't think i would be reaching for it again on my shelf if it were there. matteo is a very funny comedian and personality and maybe he should stick with that.

I discovered Matteo through his stand-up work and was curious if this book would deliver. Highly enjoyable and hilarious.
The wit is on point, and so are the recipes! This is a hit!

As a carboholic and ADHDer, I'm always on the look out for quick and super yummy pasta recipes. There are so many great recipes at varying levels of complexity/difficulty/involvement in this cookbook, which is perfect for accessibility, and 2 dishes have become go-tos when I'm planning my weekly meals. I feel like pasta can sometimes feel intimidating, but this cookbook made it feel super approachable and made me chuckle!
Sincere thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the chance to read this book in exchange for my honest review!

I love Matteo Lane, he's so funny and I'm so excited that he's diversifying himself to cooking! Your Pasta Sucks is easy and funny! Thanks Chronicle and NetGalley for this ARC!

Hilarious and wonderful YOUR PASTA SUCKS by Matteo Lane was a surprising blend of memoir and commentary leading to delicious recipes. Never has food and eating been presented from such a witty and raucous point of view. While I originally read it for the recipes, I kept on getting caught up in the stories behind them. Penne a la vodka will never be the same. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.
