🌶️🌶️/5 Spice
A young half fae woman Medra Pendragon, is dropped into a strange world and found by an aristocrat vampire. They are forcibly betrothed, and she is thrust into the most esteemed academy in their land. The vampires are the superior species in these lands and make sure the blightborns (humans) and dwarves are reminded of it every day within the walls of Bloodwing academy. Blake, the vampire who found her and his circle of highblood friends make sure they make Medra's first year as miserable as possible, especially Regan, Blake's first betrothed. Harry Potter for adults with sprinkles of House of Dragons, Fourth Wing and Arthurian Legend.
This is a bully to romantic partner done right. Blake is not going to be everyone's type, but I think that makes it work that much better. Even once you start to read chapters from his POV you still hate him enough, but of course, hate is just as strong an emotion as love now isn't it. This world has everything I love about Harry Potter and magical schools but cranks up the gothic and medieval vibes. My one complaint in this area is I want to know even more about the other houses and ruling families. While little bits and pieces are dropped throughout, we mostly learn about house Drakharrow which of course, is Blake's family name and house. You can tell Briar really enjoyed creating the world for this series. It comes through in her writing and I am thirsty for more lore and history of Sangratha. After finishing this book, the sequel immediately shot up priority on my TBR as well as her previous series, which is not required to read before this but I just have so many questions that need answers about Medra's previous life.
He sneered. "You did. You watched me. And you fucking liked it."
The pace of this slow burn romance is just the perfect speed for me. Takes long enough to be believable with the other events going on but not too long that I forget it's going on. Blake has many quotes that will moisten many thighs and the way he adores Medra in his own possessive thoughts just gives me the vapors. That being said please do read the full TWs inside the book before reading. It is gloriously dark and represents the pinnacle of aristocratic vampire culture. This book made me feel all the feels, and I am praying we are getting at least a 4th book in this series.
Medra Pendragon was mine. And I was prepared to die before I let any harm come to her.
She was mine before we’d even met. Even when she hadn’t known it yet. She was mine and I
was hers.
It didn’t matter if she believed it. If she accepted it. It didn’t matter if she hated me. I’d believe it
enough for both of us. She was mine and she always would be.
My heart might have been black, my deeds as dark as night, but she was mine to protect, mine to
keep safe, with everything I had to give.
She thought she was trapped? I was the one trapped. Trapped with this feeling I couldn’t get
away from. The need to possess her. To dominate her until she accepted me.

Thanks to Netgalley and Victory Editing Co-op for providing an e-ARC, so I could give this honest review. All opinions are my own.

My first love was vampires. The magic and dragons came later. On Wings of Blood brought these worlds together.
There is a lot to follow in the book, but it was easy to read and the pacing was good. I did not feel overwhelmed by the world building. Medra knows nothing of Sangratha, this new world she was thrust into. As she learns about the land she finds herself in, the creatures she must live amongst in a Vampire Academy, we too learn along side her. I enjoyed all the unique characters and the dark academia setting. Apparently, I'm into bully vampire romance now too? The slow burn is delicious and when the spice hits, it's so good. I devoured this book in a couple days and dove straight into Book 2.

“You're mine. No one touches what belongs to me.”
I’m currently trying to delve more into Dark Academia, it’s a genre that I love but just haven’t read it as much as I would like.
When I seen this book come up on my NetGalley I knew I had to read it, it had everything that I love and coming out of my Onyx Storm slump I needed a dragon fix 🐉
The angst, sexual tension and back and forth between these characters really had me frothing for more. I couldn’t put it down.
The jealousy, oh my lord Blake my little jealous Vampire. Throw in words like “you’re mine” and you will honestly have me 😮💨
Slow burn is a love hate relationship for me, I love it but I also want to climb into the book and tell the characters to just hurry up and get it on already. It was so well done in this story and I feel like it really went well with the characters personalities considering that they “loathed” each other so much.
This book has everything you could want in a fantasy story, the enemies to lovers with all the angst and sexual tension is a meal that I’ll happily sit down and devour.

Medra Pendragon was supposed to be dead. Or so she thought. Instead of waking up in the afterlife, she finds herself lost to an entirely new realm— and it just so happens to be ruled by vampires. Upon awakening in a confused state, Medra is captured by a brutish prince (Blake) who drags her into the high court for interrogation. The brutal vampire high lord is convinced that our FMC is a descendant of extinct dragon rider lineage. In order to keep her within his grasp, he binds her to his nephew as his betrothed. Now that she’s set to be Blake’s consort, she must learn their ways and attend their astute
academy. And that is where the story begins!
The vibes: dark, brutal, bloodshed, elite vampire school with dragons, strong FMC, deep secrets in everyone’s past
I’m obsessed with Briar Boleyn’s writing. This book was another win, and I can’t wait for the next. Will officially be buying a physical copy!
A big thanks to NetGalley, publisher and Boleyn for providing me with this ARC!

The way that I drug this out for just over 2 weeks because I never wanted it to end and took my time to really enjoy it while reading it.
It had all of the House of Dragons Meets Hogwarts and if Draco Malfoy was a vampire vibes! I absolutely loved everything about it!
I was hooked from the very beginning and I knew immediately that I was going to love this book! It has major Dramoine vibes and I was absolutely here for it! I loved the tension and slow burn between the main characters. The moody academic setting was perfect and added so much to the story line.
I cannot wait to start The Bond Thar Burns next! I already know I am going to be dying to read The Wings That Bind when it releases on May 15th!

On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn 🐉
“Bloodwing demands excellence. It will draw excellence from you like fangs draw blood.”
Medra Pendragon is half mortal, half fae, and is believed to have dragon rider blood. A line that has long since died out, along with all of the dragons.
When she finds herself mysteriously thrust into a world of vampires (high bloods) and non vampires(blight borns) in a rather unfortunate manner, she is discovered by Blake Drakharrow and taken before his uncle, head vampire, Vincent Drakharrow, and the Vampire Court. Here it is decided that she will attend Bloodwing Academy, an elite academy where the high bloods hone their lethal skills and the blightborns study and try not to become a meal. To make things worse, Medra is bound to Blake as one of his consorts, not ideal since they both despise one another.
This book has a bit Hogwarts, with a smidge of Arthurian legend, Fourth Wing fight mats, consort Hunger Games and vampiric Mean Girls! If you’re into any of those, then this is for you!
From about the halfway point I found myself especially hooked and could not put it down!!!

On Wings of Blood is a spin off from the Blood of a Fae series, which I didn’t realise until after reading this. I think it would have helped with Medra’s backstory, but it isn’t essential to understand this one. I’ll still be going back to read them now though. 😍
On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn is book 1 of the Bloodwing Academy series. It finishes on a bit of a cliffhanger with lots of unanswered questions. Bring on book number 2!
A big thank you to NetGalley and Starwater press for my copy.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/🌶️.5 On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn is book 1 in the Bloodwing Academy series.
Our FMC, Medra, awakens in a strange world in a pile of dead bodies, not knowing how she got there. She immediately is captured by Blake, a highblood vampire in this world. Blake takes her to his city where he is forced to make her one of his consorts because of who she really is. She may not know, but these people inform her she is a lost breed of dragon riders... Except there hasn't been a dragon in decades. When she realizes she's not going anywhere, she settles in to life there, attending Bloodwing Academy to prepare her for her new life. It's a pretty wild ride filled with bullies, magic, and some pretty bizarre traditions she stumbles upon. And then there's the trials. All the consorts go through the trials, and while it's not intended to kill you, it just might.
This book reminded me a lot of Zodiac Academy and a dark Harry Potter with the bullies and different houses, but was unique enough to keep me intrigued about where the story is going. And with that ending... I NEED to read book 2!! 🤯🤯🤯

This book was so surprisingly good! Loved the writing and the pacing. It was everything I wanted in a romantasy. I'm excited to see how others react to it when it comes out

Absolutely incredible, I’m off to read the next book immediately. There’s nothing I don’t love about this, I adore vampire books and love dragons too, so I was always going to give this 5*

I love briar!! I literally have been so blessed to get every one of her books on arc and I devour them.
She has a beautiful way of capturing you so throughly that you forget the world around you and lose all sense of time.
On wings of blood is the perfect mix if Harry Potter, fourth wing, zodiac academy all wrapped into one magical bundle.
I loved this and Nedra is such a kick ass character she doesn’t take anything lying down.
Blake is a complicated character wants to live doesn’t no how to and unfortunately for him literally destroys everything because he doesn’t use his brain.
Don’t hesitate to read this or any of her series she is truly an amazing romantasy writer and deserves the recognition for her outstanding work!

Thank you for the arc briar Boleyn

Absolutely loved it!
I'll come back and write a more detailed review but I'm absolutely desperate to get my hands on the next copy and would love to be approved!!

YALL, the screams I scrumpt throughout this book! I can't even begin to describe how amazing this book was. There are absolutely no words that will do it justice.
Briar is a new to me author, and I can tell ya now that I am absolutely hooked, haha. The Harry Potter vibes were absolutely immaculate! HP vibes sold me, but the HP vibes WITH dragons.. deceased.
My fav character was, of course, Medra. Fierce fmc, breaks the "rules," doesn't take shit. But I also loved Neville, and Theo. 🖤 OWOB had all my favorite tropes plus more.
If you haven't read this one yet, omg, please do! I've already dived into The Bond That Burns 🔥 Both book one and two are on KU! ✨️

The author did not disappoint - her description of House of the Dragon meets Hogwarts was spot-on, and she delivered. From the very first page, I was captivated by the rich world-building, where dark academia meets the intrigue of vampires and the power and history of dragons. I loved reading this from Medra's and Blake's perspectives, which added depth to the story and allowed me to experience both sides of the character's conflict and emotions in a more immersive and engaging way.
Medra’s inner dialogue was one of my favorite aspects - she’s bold, witty, and unafraid to say what needs to be said, both in her thoughts and out loud. Her sharp humor and fearless nature made her chapters especially fun to read.
You watch Blake as he gradually changes and grows, and you can't help but begin to fall for him; however, he eventually makes another significant mistake. Given how the book concluded, I can’t help but wonder if there is more to the story of House Avari and Medra. Could the house leader of Avari have a more prominent role in what happens next?
The balance of highblood tension, magical academia, and supernatural forces kept the stakes high, making it impossible to put this book down. If you are a fan of dark, enchanting fantasy with fierce female main characters and powerful creatures, then this is a must-read! Thank you to NetGalley and Briar Boleyn for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I received this Copy from Starwater Press and Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn was such a fun and exciting read. I was captivated from the first page, and I wanted to devour it.
What you can expect when you read this book:
- A whole lot of Vampires
- Enemies to Lovers
- Dark Academy Vibes
- Arrange Marriages
- Fourth Wing / Crave Vibes
- A whole lot of "Touch her and die" moments
On Wings of Blood was one of my favorite reads of the year, and it was solely because I didn't want to put the book down and I was so engrossed in the story. If it wasn't for the fact that it was already well into the early morning and I had to work the following day, I would have pulled an all-nighter to consume this book.
The FMC, Medra, was just a girl who gave up everything, only to wind up somewhere where she wasn’t supposed to be. A world where mortals were beneath the highborn in every way, yet Medra refused to absorb that mentality. She was such an amazing character and a complete badass.
As for Blake (MMC), he was delicious. Definite bad boy vibes that you couldn’t help but feel slightly bad for (regardless of how frustrating he was to Medra). But that boy was HOT. The way Briar was able to describe every detail of him was so perfect, and I ate it up!
I was immersed in the detail that was provided about literally everything: the academy, the characters, the classes, everything. I felt like I was able to visual everything while reading - it was easy to place myself in the book, and I just loved it.
If I am being honest, upon finishing the last page, I immediately went to Kindle to download Book #2. And I will say this now, if Blake does not BEG for forgiveness from Medra in the first chapter of the next book, I will be crawling into those pages to slap some sense into him myself.
Thank you, Net Galley, Starwater Press, and Briar Boleyn for giving me the opportunity to read On Wings of Blood and give my honest opinions!

My first Briar Boleyn book, and I thoroughly enjoyed On Wings of Blood. After reading this book, I learned that our FMC, Medra is a character in the Blood of Fae series, which knowing that now explains so much, because I felt like I was missing something in the beginning. So if you’re considering reading On Wings of Blood, I would say maybe read the Blood of Fae series first to get more insights into who Medra is and how she got here. But having not known that, I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to enjoy this book, because I loved it.
This story follows Medra, who appears in this new world where vampires are worshipped and considered superior. Medra is found by Blake Drakharrow, one of the vampire princes, who she later becomes bonded to, because his uncle, Lord Drakharrow believes she has riders blood in her. Making her the only rider in their land, so she is considered a prized possession or their property. Lord Drakharrow’s main motivation is acquiring as much power as he can, and Medra having dragon riders blood, will give the Drakharrow house an upper hand from the other three houses.
Medra is enrolled in Bloodwing Academy, with Blake and his other consort, Reagan, to learn about their way of living, history, how to fight, etc. she despises the vampires, known as the high bloods, because of there arrogant way of going about life. Not to mention, they have to feed on the “blightborns”, who are strangely always more than willing, since it is considered an honor to serve the high bloods. To Medra, it feels like they’ve all been brainwashed into thinking they have to sacrifice and dedicate their lives to the vampires.
Reagan is threatened by Medra from the very beginning, because she is obsessed with Blake, and Blake doesn’t feel the same. So she’s constantly bullying her and never giving Medra a chance. There is also a game for the consorts, who are meant to work together to survive, which kinda reminded me of the games in Powerless in a way. If you don’t survive the games, then you’re dead.
The ending was really good, and I’m excited to pick up the second book to see where the story goes! If you like your fantasy books to have dragons and vampires, pick this one up!

The novel is set in a world where humans coexist with vampires, dragons, and other mystical creatures. The protagonist, Medra, is a young woman who becomes embroiled in a dark and dangerous world of magic and politics. She's enrolled at Bloodwing Academy, a prestigious institution where students are trained in arcane arts, but the academy’s true purpose is shrouded in mystery. As the story progresses, Medra uncovers secrets about her lineage and her unique abilities, which put her at the center of a growing conflict.
On Wings of Blood has a heavy dark academia theme, focusing on the complexities of power, betrayal, and romance in a magical setting. There’s a lot of intrigue and manipulation, as Medra navigates the academy and its dangerous politics. The world-building is intricate, with multiple factions vying for control and magical dominance. The blend of romance and tension keeps the stakes high throughout the story.
Medra is the heart of the story, and much of the plot revolves around her growth as she learns about her powers and the political games at play. She’s a strong and determined character, but she also has moments of vulnerability that make her relatable. Her relationships with other characters evolve, especially as she becomes entangled with powerful figures at the academy, including both allies and enemies. The romantic tension is palpable, and while it’s not the sole focus of the book, it definitely adds to the intrigue.

I definitely enjoyed this book and I'll for sure be reading book 2. The formatting of the book wasn't my favorite. Also there were sections book 1-5 that I'm not sure were supposed to be there.
The storyline is engaging.
The enemies to lovers is enticing
The spice is spicing.
The world building is pretty easy to follow along although I'm curious if I'm missing something by not reading the author's Fae series?
I personally didn't get Draco vibes from Blake but I did like the random names like Neville and Lucius thrown in. The different houses with different colored robes as well.
I love Medra's character and the friendships she makes.
All in all it's a great story and I can't wait to continue.

This book was…wow
Obviously when the author says Draco Malfoy inspired, I have to read it but this book was so so good!
Did i get Dramione throughout it? Yes I did 100% and I LOVE dramione. I did also read a lot of HP influence in this book too.
Adding vampires with fae and dragons hehe then force them into an academy that Medra does not want to be in.
Medra is not from this work and she doesn’t know how she got there at first. She was a fae prince one minute then a human girl the next.
Blake is an egotistical high blood (vampire) prince who she is forced to be consort too after she was found. And he didn’t want her either but with time they both felt a pull to each other that they couldn’t defy. Even if he did bully her at first. Hate and love are only opposite sides of the same coin.

On Wings of Blood is probably the most fun I’ve had with a book in a long time.
I was absolutely sucked into the storyline, the academy is a perfect backdrop for the characters.
The vampires are powerful, petty and sexy. Our FMC is sassy and full of quips.
There are dark themes throughout, the school is very much deadly and there is plenty of oppression. So those who enjoy dark romance will definitely feel at home in this world.
Is this the best written book? No - But it is fun, addictive and interesting so this really didn’t matter. If anything it is accessible and an easy read.
Another plus is that we are given a dual POV, which I always love in a romantasy so we can see our obnoxious MMC from a different angle.
Read this if you like power plays, academia, lovely friendships and epic moments.
I have seen comparisons to zodiac academy, which now I’m thinking I need to read too!
I think I’m going to move on to book two in this series first though - I can’t cope with the ending otherwise!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.
