The concept is really interesting, but the way the story is written doesn't really work for me. It frustrates me that a girl is at the center of this, but it feels so much more like it's about the men in her life. Given the male author, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. In general, I also don't get strong feeling from this book.

The Wonder of all things by Jason Mott is a stand-alone contemporary fantasy novel. Jason Mott is the New York Times best selling author of The Returned yet somehow this is the first book of his I have read. The story centres on a young girl whose life is thrown into chaos when she heals her friend after a tragic accident. This book asks a lot of questions about morality and love and really showcases some fresh ideas yet for some reason I found it all a bit flat. The writing is good. Mott is a gifted author with a gentle touch. I loved Ava the main character, she was wonderful but the secondary characters were more problematic. Ava's family are layered and flawed, capable of love and selfishness not likeable but relatable. This is a good book but one I am unlikely to remember in the long run.

Unfortunately I didn't connect to this book and ended up not finishing it. I will not be reviewing it since my opinions aren't based on the entirety of the book and may therefore give wrong impressions. My apologies for not sharing my opinions earlier.
