Overall this book was okay. It started off very slow and I couldn’t really figure out what genre the book was or what was really going on till about halfway through. Everyone in River’s life is pretty much lying to her and she doesn’t know who to trust. River ends up living with her aunt after her dad dies in a house fire because her mom has always randomly gone missing throughout her whole life. River’s boyfriend, Noah, unexpectedly breaks up with her and she doesn’t really know why, but he comes to her rescue multiple times in the book. River relies heavily on her best friend Tawny throughout the book. The end of the book ended up being really good with lots of unexpected twists and turns

Sloan Harlow has once again blown me away with the unforeseen turn of events that are contained in “All We Lost Was Everything”
This book made me laugh, reminded me of dateline episodes where they talk about how the victim “always lit up the room”, and made me feel so seen regarding my annoyance of the ridiculous amount of yammering there are before a recipe in blogs. I loved how it kept me guessing as to the interconnectedness of the characters and had me trying to untangle layers of lies and deception until the very end, and as soon as I got there I wanted to start the book over to find all the hints and breadcrumbs I missed the first go round.

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This one read like a Colleen Hoover book to me. It felt very similar to November 9? Overall I felt like this was a good read but I could not figure out what genre it was really going for. At first I was thinking young adult romance with trauma and then end really took a turn and went towards a thriller. I actually really enjoyed the ending as I was not expecting all of those twists. I think all my main questions were answered and I do love a conclusive ending, but the middle dragged a bit for me. I think this book focused on family and friendships more than romance and I wish there was more build up with the main characters. I also hate miscommunication when one of the characters is going to explain but the other character doesn’t let them. It drives me batty. Overall, I WOULD suggest this one even if it wasn’t my favorite. Thank you netgalley and Penguin Publishing for the ARC! You can read this one in March of 2025, so add to your TBR now if you like a mix of romance and thrillers!

Genre 📚: YA Thriller, Dark Romance, Mystery
Tropes 💁♀️: Family secrets, Forbidden love
Rep ✔️: Half Filipino main character
CW ⚠️: Off-page death of a parent, house fire, alcohol abuse, grief

Sloan Harlow reaaaally likes to torture her characters. And I, apparently, enjoy reading said torture. Her debut Everything We Never Said lured me in with its angsty premise and kept me reading well into the early morning to figure out what the hell was going on. The same happened here with All We Lost Was Everything, which was just as twisty turny.
FMC River loses everything in an accidental fire, including her beloved father. As she tries to get her life together, she falls into a passionate romance with MMC Logan, her mysterious co-worker. Naturally, he has his own baggage, as well as a huge secret that he’s sure will tear them apart. These two got way too intense way too fast (I would’ve liked a little more forbidden pining), but I was wrapped up in their story — like a passerby unable to look away from a car wreck.
It took a while for the thriller aspect to come in, for River to start unraveling all the secrets behind her family and the perhaps not-so-accidental fire, but once it did… damn. I had my theories of what the twists might be, and I was wrong every single time. There are certain parts where you have to suspend disbelief, but it’s pretty easy to go with the flow and hang on for this crazy joyride.

Lots of secrets, a little dark/sad but super enthralling which kept me reading non stop.
Thank you for this ARC. I really enjoyed it.

Okay, I officially love this author.
I loved Everything We Never Said and I jumped at the chance to read an eARC of All We Lost Was Everything. I admit I was nervous that I wouldn’t enjoy this book as much without the whole whodunnit Fear vibes I got from the author’s first book, but I loved this book.
River was really going through it, basically being peppered with nothing but lemons from life. She lost her dad and all of her possessions in a house fire she barely survived the same night her serious boyfriend ending things unexpectedly and her mom disappeared on one of her depression hikes and hadn’t come back for quite awhile. But as she was moving on and figuring her life out, she started to fall for her grumpy coworker who was perfect…
We also got Logan’s POV and it was clear he was hiding something, but we just didn’t know what that was. He seemed like he genuinely cared about River, so what was with the secrets??
I loved unraveling the mystery and trying to figure everything out. There were a lot of strange things that happened and yet none of them were really connected, but all of them impacted River who just wanted the truth of everything. I couldn’t put this book down! I was genuinely surprised by how things turned out. I definitely recommend this to fans of darker themes (trauma, mystery), romance, and coming of age.

This was definitely a fast-paced read for me. The characters were enjoyable, but my favorite was definitely River, she just had so many struggles. There were several plot twists but honestly I felt like the book could've ended about 150 pages sooner than it did, but overall it was enjoyable.
3.75/5

All We Lost Was Everything by Sloan Harlow is a gripping exploration of the uncertainties and harsh realities of early adulthood. The author does a fantastic job capturing the emotional weight of losing both parents while navigating the transition from high school to full-time independence. The story pulls you into the protagonist’s journey, forcing you to question how much truth you're willing to uncover—and at what cost. Are we prepared to dig deep? Do we really want to know the ugly details? While some plot points felt a bit predictable, the suspense and intrigue kept me turning the pages, eager to see where it would all lead. It was an easy yet compelling read, and I found myself unable to put it down. If you enjoy stories that balance emotional depth with mystery, this one is worth picking up!
Many thanks to NetGalley for the advanced digital copy; All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What would you do if you lost everything? River Santos’ tragic story is a rollercoaster of twists and turns that I never saw coming.
You know how sometimes you can figure out a thriller’s ending well before you hit the halfway point? I’m usually pretty good at that. But this book kept me guessing in all the right ways. Yes, I anticipated some drama, but where things ended up going was nothing like I expected!
Melody was such a compelling character. Her strength and resilience was incredible considering nearly everyone around her is holding a secret. She loved her father dearly and if I were in her shoes, I would want to know what really happened that night. As for her missing mother, that was another shocker I didn’t expect.
Logan’s complex character was shrouded in mystery and I was eager to find out what he was hiding. He truly loved Melody and wanted to protect her.
Ms. Harlow’s characters are so well-written and it was exciting that most of them had some secret to reveal. Their authenticity is refreshing, and their journeys had me invested from the get-go. You feel their highs and lows, and with all the unexpected developments.
If you’re looking for a romantic suspense that’s anything but predictable, I’d highly recommend picking this one up.
Thank you go Ms. Harlow for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Tragedy and a smoldering dark and thrilling romance make this book a must read. True to the YA genre.

What a fantastic read!
All We Lost Was Everything is filled with lots of mystery and intrigue that kept me on my toes. Just when I thought I knew what was happening another twist was thrown my way. And if that wasn't enough, there was some delicious romance that made my heart swoon. All in all, it's a great read to spend your day devouring and getting completely lost in.

this was good! i read it in one sitting and definitely didn't see the ending coming at all so that was nice! i like when i'm not able to guess the plot twist even if it makes me feel like a detective.

All We Lost Was Everything was an exciting and quick read! I really enjoyed all of the characters. Rivers way of navigating through her loss was so mature and unwavering. I really enjoyed watching her character develop. The twists and turns completely took me, I did NOT see them coming. Here I thought I was reading a romance and got some suspense, too!
4.5 stars for me! Thank you NetGalley for the E-Arc of All We Lost Was Everything by Slone Harlow

While a cheesy YA novel, this was a good read!
It has romance, twists and turns and the right amount of suspense.
Every character having their own secret made this even better when it came to the plot twist. This is the first but probably not the last book for me from this author!

This was an intriguing read. I was hooked from the very first page. The plot twists also kept me guessing. I wasn’t necessarily overly connected to the romance between River and Logan. It felt like their relationship started moving way too fast. Overall, a good read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc!

Sloan Harlow's All We Lost Was Everything introduces readers to River, a young woman who is grappling with the aftermath of two tragic events: the recent death of her father in a house fire and the disappearance of her mother. The novel weaves a complex narrative that touches on themes of grief, loss, and the search for answers. As River struggles to piece together the truth behind her father's death and her mother's disappearance, the book unfolds a labyrinth of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the final pages.
River's internal struggle is portrayed with great sensitivity, and her journey of self-discovery is relatable, even as the mystery surrounding her family's tragedy unfolds.
That said, the novel can feel a bit convoluted at times. The plot is laden with mysteries that lead to more questions than answers, and while this adds an element of suspense, it also risks overwhelming the reader. Some moments in the narrative could have been trimmed, as the pace occasionally slows to a crawl, which detracts from the overall impact of the story. The numerous twists towards the end, while surprising, leave certain plot points feeling underdeveloped, making the resolution feel a bit rushed after such a slow buildup.
Despite these issues, All We Lost Was Everything succeeds in creating an intriguing, if sometimes frustrating, mystery. The characters are well-crafted, and the emotional depth of the story is undeniable. For readers who enjoy slow-burn mysteries with complex emotional layers and don't mind a narrative that demands patience, this book will certainly be a rewarding read. However, for those who prefer a quicker pace and more clarity, it may feel like an uneven experience.

Just meh for me.
Started out interesting, but moved too slowly and too much of a romance flair for me, and not enough of the thriller part
I received an ARC from netgalley in exchange for an honest

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Books for this ARC. River's father just died when their house burned down, her boyfriend broke up with her and her mom has disappeared. Now she is trying to move on from all the tragedy when Logan at work finally talks to her. Everything River thought was true was only a lie.
This book started out as a romance then turned into a thriller. I am not a fan of YA or steamy books but was this was still a good read! #AllWeLostWasEverything #SloanHarlow #PenguinYoungReaders #May2025

I first found out about this last summer when I read everything we never said and when I saw that they were coming out with another book I knew i wanted an arc of it. This book very good and a quick read for me.

Fast-paced, exciting, interesting plot and plot twists. Cool character development, and interesting relationships between complicated characters.
