Okay I really enjoyed this book I wanted to keep reading and find out more about Hutch and Katie. I loved the storyline it was super unique and a fun vibe, I absolutely loved Rue and Hutch was an amazing MMC! It was also great seeing how truly affected people can be by social media and comments and how it can entirely change your life so that was nice of the author to touch on and bring to light for the FMC.

The thing that I made it not 5 star for me was the fact there wasn’t enough of the relationship I wanted to see how that evolved and how it ended up I felt it was a hit rushed at the end, and I just wanted to see them tougher for longer if you know what mean. Super cute read though just fell short at the end for me!

This is my review as it appears on the Fable app! “ my very first arc read!!! katherine center has become an auto buy author for me and this confirmed it! i love that her books have no spice but there’s a connection between the main characters that’s literally palpable. i loved the eating disorder/body image issues representation in this book and found it so relatable. if you’re looking for a fun summer romance that will have giggling and possibly tearing up (that might just be me) you have to get this book on may 20th!”

I had very high expectations going into this book, but it did not stand up to these expectations. I do realize that book is meant to be a romcom, but I never really got into it. The book centers around Katie who is offered an opportunity to film a “hero” by her colleague in order to keep her job. The hero himself is Hutch, a member of the coast guard who went viral when he saved a celebrity’s pet. But here’s the catch, Hutch doesn’t want to be filmed, or become famous. This story navigates the boundaries of professional relationships, and the consequences when lines are crossed. There were multiple points in this book where I almost DNF’d it, but ended up pushing through. The FMC has a really bad relationship with her body and her self appreciation, which I can understand, but it became one of the main focuses of the story, and wasn’t really written in a way that I liked. Overall, The Love Haters is a romantic comedy about self love and the fine line of professional relationships.

Features-
- Fake dating
- Forced proximity
- Self love
- Damsel in distress
- Rom-com
- One Bed
- Workplace romance

The Love Haters by Katherine Center is a forced proximity, friends to lovers, absolutely charming novel!

Katie is a videographer in danger of losing her job due to layoffs. She is given the opportunity to film a promo for the US Coast Guard featuring her coworker’s brother Hutch, an insanely handsome and kind rescue swimmer. Not only was this a love story between Katie and Hutch, but it was also a story about falling in love with yourself and accepting who you are. This book had adventure, adrenaline, humor, and amazingly wonderful supporting characters. I could hardly put this book down. My only complaint is that I would have liked a little bit more closure on Katie and Hutch’s story/relationship at the end. The author’s note is absolutely fantastic and a must read!

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a wonderful book! A different concept from your usual romance, as Katherine Center excels at. There are many layers, fun and engaging characters, and just the right amount of drama. Plot. Characters. All in all, a really well-written tale that I heartily endorse!

The Love Haters was a light fun read, which is exactly what I was looking for! Katie was surprisingly relatable and definitely had her vulnerabilities. Hutch was the perfect rom com MMC! Watching things develop between him and Katie was intense but watching Katie learn how to accept and love herself made me just want to give her a big hug! Very well done book and a five star read, in my opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Love Haters was an emotional story following Katie who’s trying to keep her life together by volunteering for a crazy work project she’s not qualified for to avoid being fired, ignoring major drama created by her famous ex boyfriend, and trying to win over a grumpy (but smoking hott) coast guard member Hutch. All while also learning to love bright colors, swimming, and herself.
The writing was so engaging and spoke to me personally as Katie’s character reminded me of myself when I was younger. I could never meet the unobtainable level of perfection needed so I tore myself down just like Katie. I loved Beanie’s character, a tough love best friend. We all need a friend like Beanie!
This book was definitely a reminder to love ourselves as we are. (And maybe to be nicer to other people too?)
This was my first Katherine Center book and will not be my last!

3.5 stars
Katherine Center--I love your books so much. The Love Haters is about a Coast Guard rescue swimmer named Hutch and a video producer named Katie. This is definitely a swoon worthy love story between Hutch and Katie. however it focuses on two love stories. One between Hutch and Katie and another with Katie and herself.
The relationship between Hutch and Katie I loved. Hutch's character was my favorite. He was consistent, loyal and kind hearted. Katie's character fell a little flat for me. I wish she had a little more character depth. Katie's background story also is something I have read numerous times so that also fell flat for me.
The ending featured a much more confident Katie and although a little cheesy the read can tell she starts to love her own self more. I do wish that the ending featured more of the relationship between Hutch and Katie. The supporting characters aside from Aunt Rue were also not the most likable. Overall I read this book in 24 hours and the pace is perfect. It is also the perfect length for a book and not once did I feel like it was dragging on. As always I will continue to read anything Katherine Center puts out.
Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC.

I really liked the romance in this books, however I felt that parts of it were very unrealistic. Wish there was something that would appeal to everyone.

OMG. I LOVE Katherine Center books so much!! I will read ANYTHING she writes!!

Katie is a video producer that suspects she's going to be let go from her job. But her coworker, Cole, thinks that he can help both of them from getting canned by sending Katie down to Florida to go a video for the Coast Guard, and maybe even get the chance to do one of her personal YouTube videos on one of the Coast Guard employees who has become famous. The catch? It's Cole's brother, Hutch, that she will have to follow around and interview for weeks. To add to that, the brothers don't get along, and even worse- Hutch HATES love. Katie thought this was going to be a rough project, but would take it on! BUT there is one last problem.....Katie doesn't know how to swim.

Katie's work trip to Florida is an adventure that I wasn't expecting and I truly loved it so much. If I could give this book ALL OF THE STARS, I would! Not only is this a love story between people, but Katie also learns to love herself along the way, and that is the most important thing! Katherine Center writes so beautifully that I felt as if I were in the story as Katie, going on the adventure with her. If you've enjoyed any of Katherine Center's books, you're definitely going to love this one!

This is my first Katherine Center book. I know, I know, I’m very late to the party! But at least I finally arrived! I thought this book was a great introduction to this author. The story kept me engaged, and I REALLY enjoyed the writing style. This book was a nice refresher between my normal heavier thrillers and mysteries that I read. I will be coming back for more!

This is the second book by Katherine Center that I have read, and I have not been disappointed yet!
I loved this cozy story of an individuals journey to discovering her self-worth. Katie has been burned by love and her job is on the line. Her hands are tied and she temporarily moves to Key West to shoot a promotional video for the Coast Guard. Sparks slowly ignite when she meets Hutch.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Penguin Group Putnam, and the author for an ARC of this book in which I had the pleasure of reading.

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reading copy! I love Katherine Center, and this is a great addition to her romantic comedies. I loved the plot of this book, in which a woman documentary filmmaker goes to Key West to make a film about her boss’s brother who is a coast guard swimmer. But she doesn’t know how to swim. Chaos, love, and swim lessons ensue. This book was sweet and thoughtful, it was mostly about body image issues and learning to love yourself so you can properly enter a romantic relationship. Like many other of Center’s books, the side characters were great and there is a dog that really steals the show of the book. Overall, this book is paced great, I laughed and enjoyed it a lot. I will say, it did not blow me away like some of her other books, but in the end I really enjoyed it. I recommend this book for fans of Katherine Center, romantic comedies, Key West, and sweet contemporary romances.

✨Book Review✨

The Love Haters - Katherine Center

📖 Katie has been give two choices: wait to get laid off from her job as a video producer or, at her coworker Cole’s request, take a career-making gig profiling Tom “Hutch” Hutcherson, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer in Key West… except she’s not exactly qualified because she can’t swim, but she omits that fact and if on her way to Key West. What could go wrong when Hutch doesn’t want her there? Katie finds herself trapped in lies and will have to figure out how to tell the truth and face old fears.

📚 Katie is a lovable main female character who has body image issues that she needs to work through. She’s got a best friend/ cousin-basically-sister named Beanie who is the girl champion we all want on the other end of our FaceTimes. Katherine Center did a great job breaking down the vastness of the Coast Guard to make it accessible to the reader. This was a sweet story that had swim lessons, helicopter flights, congo lines, drinking contests, hurricanes, and stolen kisses. Overall a fast and fun read!

🌟 If you enjoy closed door romances with humor that also have a bit of seriousness to them then you’re going to want to pick this one up! It hits shelves May 20th!

Shoutout to Katherine Center and @NetGalley for the advanced reader copy! I loved having the chance to review this before it was officially published.

Katherine Center is one of my favorite romance writers. Her books are witty and warm, and always include strong engaging personalities. In this novel the main characters are a documentary film maker and a Coast Guard Rescue swimmer. Katie and Hutch must work together (including swimming lessons) so that Katie can make a documentary on Hutch and his "hero" job.
Katherine likes to include interesting occupations for leads, and Hutch being a rescue swimmer is no exception. Center goes behind the scenes to show what the daily life of a Coast Guard Rescue swimmer looks like, as well as detailing the training and maintenance involved in this profession.
This story is set in Key West and that definitely added a bit of splash, as well at Hutch's Aunt Rue who is the embodiment of fun and zest.

Overall this was a cozy romance, with a great location and fun details to keep things lively.
When I'm in the mood for a fun romance that I don't want to put down, this fits the bill.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fabulous read! As Katherine Center does best, a unique premise than your typical romance. Lots of layers with interesting and enjoyable characters, and the right amount of drama. Loved Hutxh and Katie, and of course loved Rue and the girls.

When Katie, a video producer, is at risk of losing her job, she is offered an opportunity to save her career: create a video profile of Hutch, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer who is an internet hero. Katie needs to pretend that she can swim and fly to Florida to spend time with Hutch, who just happens to be her coworker Cole's brother. The two siblings do not get along, but Katie is hoping to be able to get the job done anyway. Katie quickly adapts to the Florida lifestyle by adding color to her life, getting swim lessons from Hutch, and enjoying evenings by the pool (complete with conga lines) with his aunt Rue and her lively friends.

Believe me when I tell you that I LOVED this book. I have always been a fan of Katherine Center's work, so I screamed out loud when I learned I was approved to read this advanced copy. The Love Haters lived up to the hype! Katie's ability to adapt to new surroundings and befriend people was admirable. Her journey towards body positivity and appreciating her own achievements was truly inspiring. Katie's bravery and selflessness caused her to quickly become one of my favorite female main characters. Hutch was swoonworthy! He was caring, compassionate, and much more open than Katie expected him to be. He makes so many sacrifices for the people in his life and he is good at acknowledging flaws while appreciating that flaws are a part of humanity. This book made me want to move to Florida and find my own Coast Guard rescue swimmer! Katherine Center has a strong writing style that helps readers to really relate to the characters and feel as if they are a part of the plot. This book was fun and flirty while making a meaningful impact. It will be a favorite, for sure!

This might be a 2.5⭐️ for me.

First, I would like to extend a big thank you to St. Martins Press, NetGalley and the author for the advanced digital copy of this book.

I’ve always been a Katherine Center fan- I’ve enjoyed her fun, witty and quirky rom-coms such as Hello Stranger, The Bodyguard and The Rom-Commers, so when I received the ARC for her new book, I was beyond excited. Unfortunately, it pains me to say- this one missed the mark for me.

Starting with what I did like- this authors writing style is very easy to follow. It’s concise, written with passion, emotion and humor all at the same time. This book was no exception, there were moments where I found myself laughing and moments where I could feel the characters emotion come through. The author also does a great job describing each scene to help you place yourself there alongside the characters. However, I struggled with the story itself and at times, I felt that it became tedious, convenient or a little far fetched.

It wasn’t even the extreme focus on the FMCs negative body image or her self esteem issues that got to me. Was it brought up constantly? Yes- but when someone has a poor image of themselves in any sense, it can overtake their every thought and consume their lives. It was difficult to read some of the scenes where the FMC allowed herself to be a doormat or pushover, going along with absurd shenanigans, because she was too afraid or self conscious to stick up for herself. It was also disappointing that the FMCs journey to finding self love seemed to stem from the approval of an attractive man. I was really hoping that she would become her own hero. Really, the real hero in this story is George Bailey and his weird love for toads. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Overall, it was well paced and still had its fun rom-com moments but in the end, it just wasn’t my favorite.

I had the honor of being approved by netgalley and the author Katherine Center to read the uncorrected Digital Galley of The Love Haters.

This was such a heart wrenching book about love. Not only within a relationship with a spouse but also friendships and most important the love you have for yourself. I cried, I laughed, it made me anxious and nervous but it also really made me think of how I speak to myself. Self-love is such an important part of who we are.

Thank you so much for picking me to read this. I think it came to me at the most perfect time.

p.s. George Bailey is the underrated character! He deserves everything good in life. He definitely brought the two main characters together without really even trying.
