Thank you NetGalley for sending me this eARC.

Rachel Danzenbaker did a great job with this YA dystopian book. Thank you for reminding me of my obsession with dystopian books and movies like it was 2010 again. With themes of souls, reincarnation, and of course, romance; this story had me hooked.

Post WWIII, Sivon is now 18, awaiting her turn for kirling. Kirling is the process in which people find out who they were in their past lives and this determines their future. Whether that be a good job, finding a soulmate or if the past was bad then your future is not great. This reminded me of Divergent when Tris was getting her tests done to figure out her traits.

The plot overall was good and the characters had good growth and great chemistry. The world building was good but the terms used throughout the book was odd as they were explained after the word had been used. The pacing was great up until the last few chapters when I personally felt they were rushed.

Overall, this was a very good YA dystopian story. Please remember it is YA, so the characters will be acting immature at times, they’re young it’s okay. If you like 2010’s Maze Runner, Hunger Games, Divergent or anything along those lines, then this book is the one for you!

This concept is crazy to think about but sooooo good! I loved the characters and was super into it. I need more of Sivon and Donovan IMMEDIATELY!!! I had so many (good) crash outs whole reading this! I love how she put everything together and saved everyone. If this is a standalone book, amazing, but if there will be more I am all for it!! The twins were some of my faves too. I think at the beginning it was a tad bit confusing to follow but in the end it all came together in a well put together way.

Absolutely unputdownable. Soulmatch delivers a thrilling blend of speculative sci-fi, romance, and dystopian intrigue, perfect for fans of Divergent and Red Queen. From the first chapter, I was hooked by the unique premise: a future where your past lives dictate your fate, for better or for much, much worse.

Sivon is a smart, sharp, and deeply compelling protagonist, and the stakes of her journey kept me turning pages long into the night. The mystery at the heart of her soul’s identity unfolds with delicious tension, and the twists? So good. The world-building is layered and vivid without ever bogging down the pace, and the idea of kirling—this terrifying reckoning with past lives—feels fresh and hauntingly plausible.

The romance subplot adds just the right level of tension and heartache, and Sivon's off-limits bodyguard is the perfect foil, infuriating, magnetic, and impossible not to root for. I loved watching their dynamic evolve under pressure.

Though I’m relieved this was a standalone (because waiting would’ve been torture), I’m already mourning that it’s over. I will absolutely be reading whatever Rebecca Danzenbaker writes next.

Soulmatch is the kind of book that grabs you with its premise and keeps a hold of you the whole way through. It was this premise that intrigued me to request the ARC. In the world following World War III, souls are reincarnated, past lives influencing next lives and often leaving behind inheritances.

In this world where past lives determines your future, the stakes are sky-high—and Rebecca Danzenbaker delivers a tense, emotional, and utterly compelling story.

Sivon is a smart, fierce protagonist, and her journey from uncertainty to resilience had me fully invested. The world of kirling is chillingly believable, the societal structure disturbingly rigid, and the consequences of being labeled a "bad soul" are downright terrifying. The story pulls no punches, weaving in romance, mystery, danger, and heartache with sharp precision.

This isn’t just another dystopian novel, though it definitely draws on previous dystopian themes. It is fresh, thought-provoking, and packed with action and heart - a solid 5 star read for me.

Soulmatch by Rebecca Danzenbaker was a great read! I truly loved the world being based on the theory that past lives could affect your present life in concrete ways. Sivon's story was a great play on the chosen one trope as her journey is unexpected. The conventional trope takes a turn half way through and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Her relationships with Donovan and Janus were as expected for the genre, but it did make it fun to have the concept of soulmates in the mix.

I do have a few criticisms, however. I feel like Soulmatch could have benefitted from being divided into two books. The character development sometimes felt a bit rushed for the novel especially towards the end. I would have also liked to explore the actual politics and mechanisms behind the kirling a bit more as I do not feel that it had time to breathe.

Overall, Soulmatch was a fun dystopian YA novel that I recommend to anyone who enjoys the genre! I will likely wind up buying a physical copy from a local bookstore once it reaches publication.

A thrilling new dystopian that reminded me why I fell in love with the genre in the first place. Soulmatch takes place in a world with a soul-identification system. When you turn 18, you’re required to undergo a process called a kirling, where your soul is identified to uncover your past lives. This process can completely alter your future. Good souls leave with an inheritance, a promising career, and maybe even a soulmate. Bad souls? They usually leave in handcuffs.

Our main character, Sivon, has always suspected her soul was different, and she was right. Her kirling results don’t just change her life; they shock the entire world. Suddenly, she needs a bodyguard, strangers are threatening her, and her every move is under scrutiny. With danger closing in, Sivon is forced into a high-stakes game of secrets, betrayal, and trust, where one wrong move could ruin everything. Along the way, she uncovers truths that were never meant to be revealed… and she even finds love.

This book was everything I wanted: thrilling, with incredible world-building, gorgeous writing, and characters you can’t help but fall in love with. It’s a slow burn dystopian, with forced proximity, star-crossed lovers, and so many plot twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Donovan you will always be famous 🤪

Okay but this could be a MOVIE! I was hooked immediately and I loved, loved, LOVED the idea of how scary yet freeing it can be to create our own destiny. I was shocked at some things (like right away too) and really intrigued by the entire past lives system here.

Definitely recommend if dystopian is your jam!

Thank you so much to Simon Teen for my ARC ❤️

This felt like peak 2010s dystopian - like I would have LOVED this during that era.

The whole system this sets up is so interesting - it’s so complex but also so close to something that could in theory happen that I want to know literally everything about it. I also like how all the betrayal and crime was woven into everything so realistically.

I did think the romance was a teensy bit oddly paced, but that may be because it was kinda a subplot until the last 20ish% of the book.

Thank you to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for the advanced copy!

I really liked how definitions of words that were important to the book were incorporated as you read. In books such as fantasy, a lot of times the definitions are thrown on a page before the prologue and you have to flip back and forth. I liked how this book showed the definitions as they were needed throughout the book. I liked how the fmc wasn’t a pushover and stuck up for herself but still listened to other opinions. Overall, this was a good book there were a lot of plot twists that made the book enjoyable!

I absolutely loved the premise of this book and the concept of receiving information on your past lives. Who were you? Were you rich? Were you important? You have no idea until you report to the government at 18 to find out.

It does read very YA but I feel that is what gives this book its charm and insane readability. The chapters are short and so easy to fly through that I would look down and realize I had read 20% in no time at all. I thought that the definitions at the beginning of each chapter were fun and something that I haven't seen before. I do wish the chapters had been numbered though

It did feel a little rushed in some parts in regard to the plot and a little slow in some parts for the pacing but it never felt like I had to force myself to continue. Those parts were short lived before the story picked up again. Overall, it was an entertaining read and a strong debut!

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing for the digital advanced copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own!

This is a solid YA dystopian book. The premise is really interesting and unique. The world has this "easy" and "foolproof" way to keep peace and sort out "good and bad" which always works SO well (not) - and it was interesting to see that play out.

It definitely reads as YA, and the naivety of the main character Sivon can be a bit tough to read at times, but it's not unrealistic for a young character. There is enough mystery to keep you guessing, not enough to figure out everything before it's revealed, which I really enjoyed!

Oh, my YA dystopian heart has not been this obsessed since Hunger Games and Divergent! I was so completely caught up in this narrative - I could not stop reading!

This YA novel is a mix of dystopian and speculative fiction, set in a world after WWIII, when every 18-year-old is kirled. Kirling is the process of finding out what soul a person inherited from a previous life, their inheritances or consequences based on their past life’s actions, and their soulmatch, the soul intrinsically connected to theirs throughout all their lifespans. By enforcing the kirling process and making the results public, the government has been able to maintain peace for the past two centuries.

But when Sivon is kirled and her results are unknown and new, everything changes. Not only does she have no idea the path she should take, but she also becomes a celebrity overnight, one who must be protected at all costs. Sivon is assigned a personal bodyguard/secret service agent, Donovan, whose sister went through her own recent kirling. As Sivon navigates this new existence, she begins to realize that she’s in danger and that Donovan may be the only one she can trust. And as she and Donovan grow closer, she learns that her heart may also be in jeopardy, too.

This is such a fast-paced novel! I found myself racing through the book to see what happened next. I loved the unique world-building and how the author explores the concept of past lives and soulmatches. The dynamic between Donovan and Sivon was absolutely fantastic. I loved their scenes together, the tension, and the banter.

I will say that the plot gets a little intense and detailed towards the end, so pay particular attention to all of the moving parts. But it does wrap up nicely at the end, with a solid conclusion. Also, please check content warnings before reading.

Overall, I highly recommend this book if you love YA dystopian fiction!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I was immediately attracted to the premise as I am always thinking about what the future holds. What I loved about the setting was that the world built by Danzenbaker was similar enough to the current world we live in that the differences were easier to visualize. Sometimes, when a futuristic setting is vastly different than today, it can be easy to get lost in all the changes and not focus on the story itself. SoulMatch's world is so well designed, it allows the characters to shine. Sivon, the main character, does indeed shine. She has the perfect blend of snark and angst that renders her a most believable and lovable protagonist. Teen readers will definitely relate to her worries about her future. If you like futuristic fantasy with relatable characters, you will love SoulMatch!

If you think this is a romance about soulmates and how souls find each other in their next life, you would be wrong. The title is misleading, but in the best way possible. I thought this was a well-thought out dystopian novel and it reminded me of what dystopian novels are supposed to be.

At the age of 18 in this post-WWIII world, everyone goes to an institute to get their DNA and soul matched to their previous lives. Those previous lives could leave the new adult with a large fortune or a prison sentence, depending on what was done in the past. Our FMC, Sivon, is not matched with any soul and is thrust into fame when she finds out she is a "new soul". A blank slate.

Not all fame is good fame and she is paired with a bodyguard and her new employer's nephew to keep her safe. The twists and turns that Sivon comes across are just as astonishing as the soul matching results are. Like Sivon, the reader is thrust into a world of people where we don't know who to trust, and we are kept on the edge of our seats until the very end.

The explanations of people and how events unfolded got a little muddled toward the end, and maybe having some more backstory would have helped convey the strategies, but overall, the ending of this was well deserved and I thoroughly enjoyed the read!

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this novel.

Hold on to your past lives—Soulmatch is a genre-bending rollercoaster that combines the thought-provoking intensity of Scythe with the emotional punch of Matched, all while carving out a bold, brilliant identity of its own.

Set in a chillingly plausible future where who you were decides who you get to be, this speculative romance grabs you from page one and does not let go. Sivon is a force—sharp, skeptical, and utterly magnetic. From her first sarcastic quip to her last brave stand, she’s the kind of heroine who questions everything, especially the system that claims to know your soul better than you do.

The premise is instantly addicting: at eighteen, every citizen must undergo kirling, a haunting process that reveals your past lives—and seals your fate. Sivon’s results? Game-changing. And suddenly, she’s a target in a ruthless world that masks control as peace. Add in a forbidden bodyguard with secrets of his own, a web of dangerous alliances, and a soul-deep mystery, and you’ve got a high-stakes narrative that pulses with suspense and heartache.

This book is as much about fate and identity as it is about power, love, and what it really means to choose your own path—even if the cost is everything. With whip-smart dialogue, devastating reveals, and just the right amount of romantic tension, Soulmatch delivers a story that feels fresh, fearless, and deeply human.

💫 A mind-bending mix of dystopian intrigue and soul-searching romance—Soulmatch will leave your heart racing and your brain spinning.

I took a break from reading Fourth Wing to dive into this dystopian , slow burn, thriller. Sivon is the main protagonist. The location of the story hits close to home as a resident of the DMV. Without giving too much away, the story reminded me a little of the Divergent series and the Hunger Games. It is definitely a slow burn, but the ending is definitely worth it. What would you do if when you turned eighteen that your past lives determined your future, including who your soulmate is? For Sivon it could either make or break her. Heartbreaks, death, fear. It is all a game of danger and learning who to trust is even more dangerous. The events of Soulmatch occurs 200 years after World War III. There were moments where I felt the pain of the characters.

The premise of Soulmatch is spectacular. I am a sucker for a good dystopian and what is more dystopian than reaping the rewards or punishments of your previous life?

The pacing itself was shaky and it alternated between long drawn out periods where nothing happened and chaos where everything happened all at once. I feel like the book spent more effort on trying to show off how cleverly everything interconnected than it did building relationships I could get invested in. Other than Vivi and Cora, I will fight anyone who says a bad word about them.

Thank you Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers for the gifted copy!

Dystopian, reincarnation, souls, atoning for past sins, what more could you ask for? I absolutely loved this story. The main characters were so likable, especially the twins! The plot stayed interesting all the way through. It was honestly so cool and a different kind of read. Highly recommend.

The first third of this book reminded me of why I loved dystopia fiction so much. The concept of reborn lives and all the connections of the soul network was so cool. Where this fell apart for me was how much other people did the investigating for Sivon, especially for someone who was supposed to be strategically brilliant. I also had anticipated the twist almost from the start, though the journey had me second guessing at times. I wish this had been a duology with Sivon doing more of the action to discover the truth. This is an entertaining debut and I hope to see more from the author.

Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review.
