I have read several of the author’s books in this series and others she writes and absolutely love them! In this series Ali solves mysteries by using Frigg, an AI program. The plot is intriguing, the characters are complex, and there are other side stories going on at the same time as the main story. You never know what will happen next! I did have the main suspect in Mr. Brewster’s death pegged from the beginning, but had no idea who was following Cami and why. The ending was neatly tied up in a bow at the end. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Ali and her husband B and their company are again involved with more bad characters and people from their past. This book hits on several other employees lives to keep us up to date. The book goes between Arizona, California, Washington and London. And of course their AI named Figg makes a major contribution in tying everything all together. Another great book by this author!

A good Ali Reynolds entry to the series. All the regular people were included and you could follow the character developments as they crew. This book also gave information into more of B Simpson’s history, personal and professional. Good guys win again.

OverKill is the 18th book in the Ali Reynalds Mystery series. It opens with Charles (Chuck) Brewster murdered. He was former business partner of Ali's husband, B Simpson. They owned VGI, Video Games International. Their partnership desolved when B had found out that Chuck had been having an affair with his wife, Clarice. His ex=wife, Clarice is arrested for his murder.
There are two stories in one. The first is the murder of Chuck Brewster and the second is with Camila Lee, High Noon's Security outside sales person.
High Noon Security is a cypersecurity company owned by B. Simpson in the town of Sedona, AZ. Ali Reynold's is his wife who also works for the company as CFO. Lance Tucker is an employee who with his highschool professor developed GHOST, a crypic software. Camilla Lee (Cami) works as an outside sales person and Stu Ramsey who developed Frigg an AI that he operates out of his apartment.
Donna Jean Plummer owns her own cleaning service. She goes to her Monday client, the Brewsters. She works cleaning up from the birthday party that had been over the weekend. While ironing she hears a scream and finds Clarice at the top of the stairs in her nightgown covered in blood with a knife in her hand. Clarice says that she think she has killed her husband. Donna Jean goes to her and takes the knife away and calls 911. Cllarice's small white cat Pearl is covered in blood.
Detective Raymond Horn of the Edmonds Police Department and his partner, Monica Burns are the lead detectives in the case. Clarice is arrested. The detectives also think that Donna Jean is also involved.
Adam Brewster, son of Chuck called his father after a long estrangement and has a nice talk with his father. He and his husband, Joe Franklin are invited to the birthday party. He is gay and that was the reason they were estranged. His father had not accepted it. He was happy to see him at his birthday.
Cami is away in Japan entertaining clients for dinner. She is hoping to get their business. The company is Dozo International. Kawamura is the CEO. The next day after she has finished with all her appointments she goes to the hotel dining room for a light dinner. She notices a man watching her but thinks it is her imagination as she had once been kidnaped. She goes to the hotel gym and while talking to a woman next to her treadmill the man again comes into the gym alone. She leaves with the woman and then when the woman gets into the elevator Cami decides to take the stairs and goes down instead of up. She hears someone going up the stairs. She goes into the kitchen and finds her friend, Chef Robert who takes her to his office. While there she remembers Sonya Bornson whose company WonderWoman Security B gave her the number incase she was ever in trouble. She contacts the company and arrangements are made to get her away from the hotel. Sonya speaks to B and arrangements are made to have a private plane take her back to the states. Sonya's company also takes care of Cami's room, rental car and luggage. Cami speaks to Frigg and finds out that the man is Bogdan Pedrov from Bulgarian. Connected to people in Eastern European.
Stu calls Ali as his aunt has died. He needs her to help him with meeting with the lawyer, etc. Ali goes and helps Stu with everything.
Cami is suppose to go to London. It is decided that she will go but she will have security with her. B calls Sonya and arranges it. When Cami gets off the plane in London she is met at the airport by Rachel Bloom, Cami's body guard. At the hotel Rachel shows Cami vidios of Bagdan following her. Was on the same floor she was on at the hotel in Japan. It is decided that she will do all her business from the hotel instead of going out to meet her clients. Two police officers come to her room and ask her if she knew Adrian Willoughby who was found murdered. When they leave Rachel tells Cami that Bogdam ws found in a ditch dead. Because of this it is decided that they will stay at the hotel for the duration.
B and Lance are away on business. Ali gets a phone call from his ex-wife asking to speak to him. Ali tells her he is away but she will get the message to him. She use Frigg to find out more about what is happening with the Brewster case. She tells B about the call but he does not want to have anything to do with her.. Ali tells her when she calls back that she should get another lawyer.
This is where the book gets interesting. There is so much going on that it is hard to put all on paper. There are so many twists and turns that it will keep the reader wanting to find out more. I loved that Ali was able to do all her investigations from home through Frigg and how it works. The buildup of the police in both the States and London following the clues at the end was so clever. It keep the reader on their toes. I will leave the story to the reader to enjoy to the very end of a suspenseful ending. I think OverKill was one of the better stories in this series.
Thank you NetGalley and Galley Books for this ARC.

Overkill by JA Jance is proof solid that one never gets too old to write an impressive novel, full of technology and flair. Ali Reynolds is one of her best characters, in a stable of excellent characters. More importantly is Frigg, an AI that Lance had “rescued” several years earlier. He was a God-send despite the fact that his lessons in right/wrong and legal/illegal were not taking hold. That often proved to be a blessing. Ali had answered a call meant for B, who was out of town, only to discover that it was his ex-wife who had been arrested for murdering her husband, once B’s best friend and partner, and was looking for help. She immediately told Frigg to research it and resolved to tell B at the first opportunity. Well, that hadn’t gone well, but Ali and Frigg kept investigating. Cami, meanwhile was on a sales trip to California and had felt she was being watched, then when she ran into a rough looking man several times, she panicked and called the security B had set up for just this sort of situation. She was retrieved shortly and taken to safety. All of a sudden High Noon had a lot going on.
Ali is a sixty-ish woman who had lived several previous lives, including that of a news program anchor. She had been let go over her age and that and a few other things had led her to B and High Noon, a cybersecurity concern that had clients all over the world. Cami has proven to be an excellent salesperson and traveled to sell their services to multiple clients. This book is full of interesting characters, most just doing their daily jobs. It is written in segments, jumping from one storyline to the next. This technique keeps the story moving along nicely. The plot (s) were good and watching Frigg grow has been a high point in the most recent of novels. In this one, he basically solved the murder on his own, cleverly, I might add. A terrific addition to a wonderful series.
I was invited to read Overkill by Gallery Books. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #GalleryBooks #JAJance #Overkill

Chuck Brewster, the former business partner of Ali Reynolds’s husband B. Simpson, once carried on an affair with Clarice, B.’s first wife. So when he’s found murdered with Clarice standing nearby covered in blood, it seems an open and shut case. But Clarice swears she’s innocent and begs for Ali’s help. At the same time, someone is targeting Camille Lee while she’s on the road for High Noon. Ali is swiftly running out of time to find the real killer and keep her employee safe in this high-octane thrill ride! Good book! This book had suspense, murder, mystery, dark secrets, Intrigue, and a few crazy twists! The story was interesting! I would recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

In the 18th book in the Ali Reynolds series, J.A. Jance has once again created a very enjoyable mystery. Ali finds herself worrying about Cami who appears to be in danger from a stalker and is then blindsided from a call from her husband’s ex wife who is seeking help in avoiding a murder charge. The story is set in Washington state, California and London so we get to travel just a bit too! As always, Ali and her group of cyber sleuths manage to save the day. NetGalley was kind enough to provide me with an Advanced Reader copy but the opinion is my own.

I absolutely loved the numerous storylines. As always Jance has written a well told story. A little mystery, homicide, stalking, and some fun AI friends. I did think the ending was a little short. Without giving any spoilers, it felt like not everything had been wrapped up. All in all a great read.

I rec'd this book as an ARC after the book was released, but I was SOOO excited!
I absolutely LOVE the Ali Series, and this book did not disappoint.
Granted, I did have about 75% of it figured out halfway through, but there were a few good surprises!
Speaking of surprises, our old friend J. P. Beaumont makes a little cameo in this book!
Thank you to the author and publisher for this book!

J. A. Jance, Overkill, Simon & Schuster, 2025
Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Ali Reynolds is faced with multiple mysteries in Overkill, the latest J. A. Hands novel. One involves the murder of Charles Brewster, Ali's husband B's former business partner and best friend. Their relationship was shattered when B learned that Charles was having an affair with B's first wife, Clarice. Now Ali has received a call from Clarice, who has been arrested for the murder of Charles. While B refuses to get involved, Ali can't help but do so, especially when she comes to suspect that Clarice is innocent, at least of the murder, and sets out to prove it.
Camille "Cami" Lee is the outside salesperson for B's High Noon cyber security business. In Southern California to meet with prospective and current clients, Camille begins to feel that she is being watched. That feeling becomes more certain when Cami notices a man who seems to be following her. She makes her escape from him, but later learns that he likely intended to kidnap her. Once again, Ali investigates.
Other themes and events also arise at an almost dizzying pace. I found it harder to engage with this book than I have with other entrants into this series, perhaps because so much was packed into it. The viewpoints from which the novel is told change so frequently that it can be difficult to keep up with the story line.

Overkill is the eighteenth book in the Ali Reynolds series. Many of the cast of characters are back including Frigg the AI, which adds a unique entertainment level as it tries to master the English language, sayings and slang to stay relevant. There are a lot of characters to keep track of. As usual, the stories all come together in the end for an enjoyable conclusion. This is a stand-alone read, but the series is wonderful and worth taking the time to read each one.
This one begins the night after a birthday party for Chuck Brewster, and former business partner of Ali Reynolds’ husband B. Simpson. He is found murdered the morning after party.
Someone is taking a special interest in Camille Lee while she’s on the road for High Noon. She notices a man in the restaurant who is carrying a concealed weapon. Alarmed she leaves by way of a back entrance while reaching out to the security firm they use on occasion for help.
Once these plots are explored in more detail, it becomes a thrilling fast paced story.

Thanks to Gallery books and Netgalley for this highly enjoyable eARC.
Although I have enjoyed J.A. Jance's Sheriff Joanna Brady series faithfully for years, I found Overkill, an Ali Reynold's entry to be equally as engaging.
This book opens with a bloody murder scene, with a wife waking up to her dead husband. Although the wife is the obvious suspect, things are definitely not what they seem in this captivating mystery.
5 Stars from this reviewer, even those of us tired AI will adore Frigg (think AI with a personality) in this awesome read.

Jance has done it again. AI, Ali Reynolds and a group of characters who continue to evolve as the series goes on. Tense and full of action, this is a mystery not to be missed.

Hard to Put Down--
I think in another life JA Jance ay have been a juggler. IN this book, the main mystery focuses on the murder of B's ex-wife's new husband. (That's a mouthful!) a situation fraught with emotional difficulties that Jance deftly explains in a few sentences, so that those coming to this book without having read previous Ali Reynolds bools are not at a loss. However, it seems that one mystery is not enough for this book. I lost count of the sideroads here but never fear--Jance neither loses count nor loses threads. Everything comes together at the end. Jance manages to keep us intrigued with great characters and rapid pacing--the only negative was that so much was going on, I got a bit hazy on some details later in the evening because it was the sort of book a reader does not want to put down! A very good read.

The Ali Reynolds' series is wonderful and one of my favorite.

JA Jance never disappoints and this book is no exception. Blending mystery with the world of AI brings a fresh perspective to this story. Skillfully written, well researched and intricately woven plot. Even JP Beaumont makes a cameo.
Not to be missed.

J.A. Jance has a strong thriller novel, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed the way the characters worked in this universe. It works with the thriller genre and was invested in what was happening. I'm glad I got to read this and look forward to more.

I’ve read nearly every book by the author, so naturally I was drawn to this one as well. The story moved quickly with a couple of plot lines. The story wasn’t quite as intricate as previous books, but it did entertain.

I'm more of a fan of Jance's other series, but enjoyed this book. The reliance on AI for cybersecurity is always a bit of a cheat to me--it feels less suspenseful and exciting than old-fashioned investigating, but this time around it didn't bother me much. There are two storylines here, and I kept waiting for them to overlap or entertwined, but they really don't. The main story is about B. Simpson's ex-wife, who is the main suspect in her current husband's murder. I figured out who was behind it pretty quickly, but there were enough twists and turns to keep me interested. It was a bit too slight for my tastes, but this is a quick, enjoyable read.
