Last Night Was Fun by Holly Michelle was one of my favorite reads of this summer. The texting banter was hilarious and had me laughing out loud on a regular basis, and the storytelling was fantastic. The plot premise was unique and quite funny, if not a bit too convenient, but because the writing was so excellent, this small point did not in any way ruin the overall effect. The characters were well-rounded, with fully fleshed backstories and realistic baggage attached to those backstories. The chemistry between the main characters was palpable, and the slow burn was extremely well-paced. The setting of a professional baseball team's stats team was also very unique and super interesting. I thought the depiction of gender bias in the workplace was on point and well-handled.

Spoiler alert: the backstory of Emmy's brother and how he died was handled very well. Having lost my own brother the same way, I was incredibly grateful for how the storyline was handled, and that it was featured at all. Kudos to the author for shining a light on this issue and the aftermath of sibling loss and family grief.

I rarely give a 5 star rating but this book definitely deserves it! Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this title.

This was cute enough but the miscommunication at the end was not necessary! I felt like the romance was also surface level and I couldn’t really believe in them truly being in love.

Fun is the keyword in reading this work rivals to lovers book. I was juggling a number of book openings -- where I start the first coule pages to settle into my next book partner -- and there was something about the opening for Last Night Was Fun that kept me interested enough to not jump to another book. Enjoyed this 3.4-4 star read.

Overall an enjoyable book. Characters were likable and I always enjoy the accidental text ends up being someone you know.

Emmy Jameson, a dedicated data analyst for a pro baseball team, lives by three strict rules: no dating, no oversharing at work, and baseball above all. Her summer gets complicated when she's up for a promotion against her infuriating (and attractive) rival, Gabe Olson. A flirty text from a stranger leads to a surprising connection, and when Emmy invites the friendly “Axe-Murderer” to her sister’s destination wedding, she’s shocked to discover it’s Gabe. Now, forced to travel together, they must untangle their professional rivalry from the unexpected emotional bond they've built through anonymous messages.

This book delivered a delightful mix of slow-burn romance and enemies-to-lovers tension, with Emmy and Gabe's relationship evolving in a way that felt both heartfelt and believable. Their dynamic was full of witty banter, mutual growth, and genuine respect for each other’s boundaries and ambitions, which made their connection all the more satisfying. While the third act breakup wasn’t my favorite, it did stay true to the story’s central theme of miscommunication, and overall, the story kept me smiling and invested from start to finish.

This was such a fun romp! The plot points were predictable, but in the best way. Bring me all the warm and fuzzy feels=I love a good sports romance. This fits that bill, but the way it's approached through the stats department made it feel fresh. I enjoyed the banter between the two characters, both in person and through text.

I loved this book! A delightfully smart and emotionally satisfying rom-com, set in the data analytics world of professional baseball. I adored Emmy's whip smart, unapologetically nerdy nature, paired with the big-hearted, quiet, misunderstood Gabe. Their anonymous texting banter was electric, but their real life relationship took the cake. Absolutely adored these two!

Sincere thanks to NetGalley and Avon for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book! It was so fun like a friend giving you a hug. Not too mushy but easy read even with some of the heavier subject matter

Had a blast reading this one, made me stay up until later and finally got me out of a reading slump! Last Night Was Fun was seriously cute and totally binge-worthy, gave exactly the vibes I was hoping for. The concept was golden: Emmy Jameson accidentally gets a text from a wrong number saying, “Last night was fun”. She and her mystery man start connecting and it gave me such a “You’ve Got Mail” and “The Hating Game” vibes mixed.

The chemistry was great, emotional, funny and honest. I loved how vulnerable they got through their messages before ever meeting face to face and growing their relationship once the mystery was over.

I binged it in one night and laughed a lot, it was everything I was expecting for it to be.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I loved this one so much! The premise was funny and engaging and you could feel the chemistry between Emmy and Gabe. Their text relationship was sweet while their in person interactions were not at all. This had some great spice and overall I'd highly recommend it.

Last Night Was Fun by Holly Michelle is a charming romcom that delivers on both heart and humor. Featuring a delightful workplace enemies-to-lovers dynamic with a modern You’ve Got Mail twist, this book had me hooked from the very first page.

The chemistry between Emmy and Gabe is undeniable—both in their anonymous text exchanges and their tension-filled in-person interactions at work. Holly Michelle does a fantastic job building their relationship slowly, layering it with emotional depth and genuine connection. Even before the big reveal of their true identities, the sparks between them are palpable, and you can feel their growing affection.

Emmy and Gabe each come with their own pasts, motivations, and emotional baggage, which adds depth to their journey and makes their romance feel all the more earned.

A heartwarming, fun, and feel-good read that I’d highly recommend to fans of witty banter, slow-burn romance, and swoony happy endings.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Baseball isn’t my thing but the romance in it was super cute! The writing style I did enjoy so I might try this author out in the future. Perfect for baseball fans.

This was such a cute and fun read! I loved the “You Got Mail” similarities. As a baseball lover like Emmy, I enjoyed the baseball element. An overall cute and cozy read that I found enjoyable.

Alright, so I was getting the five star feeling in the first half of this book. The back half lost me a little bit as it seemed to turn into a 'throw all of the cliches/tropes possible into one book' kind of situation.

I definitely enjoyed reading and will be recommending to my reader friends!! The baseball tie in was so fun as a MASSIVE baseball fan and the comparison to The Hating Game was actually very accurate (complete with fake dating wedding montage) so that was fun. I found myself rooting for both characters and feel like their conflict (while yes was a massive miscommunication) made sense for the situation.

Overall, I really liked reading this book!! I read it so fast, like in a day I think maybe two? so yes, great story, good book, fun time

A solid 3.5 stars.

Emmy was smart, dedicated to making it in a field that's male dominated, but doing it as a way to remember her dead brother too.

Gabe is a could've been baseball star, now in same positions as Emmy and competing with her for a promotion. He was actually a pretty nice guy, willing to make amends when how he was perceived was pointed out. He is also emotionally vulnerable since his lost chance at making it big.

A series of fun texts w/o knowing each others identities, an identity reveal, a beach wedding with forced proximity, sees Emmy and Gabe in something more than a work rivals situation. So upto this point the book worked. The Mcs communicated, albeit sometimes through texts, they got along spectacularly and then the author had to have a contrived 3rd scene breakup which did not add anything to the book at all. And hence the 3.5 stars

Overall the book was cute, but started dragging around the 70% mark.

The premise of this book was fun and the writing was pretty good but overall the book was a bit of a miss for me. I wasn’t invested in the characters, things were rather predictable and the miscommunication towards the end was annoying. I love romcoms though, so I’ll definitely still try other books from this author..

Just like the title suggests, I had a lot of fun reading this book and it untainted the implications of “fun” for me because of the way the dating world is and how men treat women. This was a safe space and good read.

Last Night Was Fun is a charming, romantic, and refreshingly honest story that blends humor, vulnerability, and undeniable chemistry in a way that makes it impossible to put down. Holly Michelle’s writing style is both witty and heartfelt, creating characters who feel like real people — flawed, funny, and full of depth.

The central relationship is the heart of the book, and it shines with banter, tension, and emotional connection. There’s a great balance between laugh-out-loud moments and sincere, more tender scenes that explore the characters’ fears, desires, and growth. Michelle also does a great job creating a backdrop that feels modern and relatable without sacrificing escapism.

What makes this book stand out is how real it feels — like a rom-com with emotional layers. It’s not just about the romance; it’s about second chances, learning to be vulnerable, and finding fun (and love) even when life gets messy.

If you’re a fan of smart, feel-good romance with a bit of spice and a lot of heart, Last Night Was Fun lives up to its title in every way. Highly recommend for fans of Emily Henry, Tessa Bailey, or Beth O’Leary.

The characters had grreat banter and great chemistry. Supportive friends and family. A fun time all around. Really a unique story and unexpected places for the main characters to meet and interact. Loved it so much!

This-book-was-fun!! I so enjoyed reading this from the flirty banter, secret pen pal identities, in "real life" tension filled dynamics...you can totally see where the plot was going, but I so loved getting there! Emmy and Gabe are rivals at work. Fate brings them together unknowingly to each other when a misdirected text gets sent to the other and a connection and relationship gets established through text correspondence. This book made me smile and swoon so hard!
