Thank you to Avon & Harper Voyager for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was such a fun and cute Rom-Com! Lots of LOL moments! I truly was kicking my feet and smiling the entire time I read this one!
Emmy & Gabe were so wholesome together, and it was so much fun to see them go from work place rivals, to secretly becoming texting buddies after a wrong incident, then after a trip to Cancun where Gabe agrees to be Emmy’s date, there is *gasp* only one bed!!!! And sparks fly, but then they head home and back to reality and see if this new relationship can last, especially because they’re both up for the same promotion. I genuinely enjoyed how open and honest all the conversations were between these two. Like I loved that they acted like adults and talked everything out and formulated plans together!
I really think all my Sports Romance girlies will love this one!!
Tropes:
⚾️Baseball Romance where she works in STEM
⚾️Forced proximity
⚾️Work place rivals to lovers
⚾️Only one bed moment
⚾️Wrong number incident, turned text buddies
⚾️Slow Burn

Y’all. I fear this was the perfect rom-com.
Pitched as You’ve Got Mail meets The Hating Game, it is absolutely a perfect blend of both. Holly has given us an enemies-to-lovers workplace romance with an anonymous texting situation that is just pure fun. I love love loved this! 10/10 no notes.
Out June 10th so put it on your summer TBR ASAP!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. :)

I LOVED this book!!!
Sure, the premise was great: two people don’t know who the other person is at the other end of the text thread. Of course you saw it coming. You knew that somehow, someway, Emmy and Gabe were going to get together.
ButSure, the premise was great: two people don’t know who the other person is at the other end of the text thread. Of course you saw it coming. You knew that somehow, someway, Emmy and Gabe we’re going to get together.
But there was so much fun, so many hijinks before that happened. I will definitely be reading some more books by Holly Michele. #HighlyRecommend.

Last Night Was Fun is a classic, trope-filled rom-com and I enjoyed it so much!
It takes all of the best rom-com plot lines - a meet cute via wrong number text, enemies to lovers, fake dating and of course - there’s only one bed!
While describing it that way feels like it could be overdone and campy, it all works really well with a mix of laugh out loud moments plus serious heart felt emotion and back stories. And, it’s all set around a professional baseball team which was a fun dynamic as baseball has moved up to by my favorite sport these days.
If you are looking for a good summer read and rom-coms are your thing, this one needs to go on our TBR list. It releases June 10 so only a few weeks to wait for it.

DNF @ 40% – Not for me
I really wanted to love Last Night Was Fun. The premise sounded like a home run (pun intended): baseball analytics, rivals-to-lovers tension, a mystery texter twist? Sign me up. But unfortunately, it just didn’t deliver.
The writing felt flat and lacked the emotional depth I was hoping for. Emmy’s internal monologue got repetitive fast, and despite the fun setup, the execution left me disengaged. The banter that should’ve sizzled between her and Gabe felt forced, and I never really connected with either of them. The workplace rivalry was more tell than show, and I kept waiting for a spark that just… never came.
Also, the texting subplot that’s supposed to be cute and swoony? I found it awkward and a little unbelievable. I get that romance requires suspension of disbelief, but I need chemistry, not just coincidence.
If you’re into very light rom-coms with minimal conflict and don’t mind predictable tropes, this might work better for you. But for me, it was a swing and a miss.

This book drew me in immediately, from the premise to getting absorbed in the first few chapters. I love a career queen who isn’t afraid to pursue her dreams even in the face of adversity, aka Boys Town. I loved the idea that they met two different ways, and that they fell in love over texts. It helped to break the barriers down between them in a more believable way. Enemies or rivals to lovers can be done poorly but this book did it well. I zoomed through this book and finished it in less than a day. Would highly recommend for fans of sports romance, enemies to lovers, and hidden identity topes.
My one problem is that while Gabe definitely had a nice side, he was still pretty horrible to her at the beginning. Other than a later comment that she intimidated him, there wasn’t really a bigger explanation for that. It took me quite awhile to warm up to him as a result.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
This was such a fun, feel-good read! Last Night Was Fun is like You’ve Got Mail meets The Hating Game—but make it baseball. I loved the setup: Emmy’s a smart, no-nonsense data analyst trying to prove herself in a male-dominated field, and her competition for a big promotion just happens to be her cocky (but very attractive) coworker, Gabe.
The anonymous text-flirting that turns out to be him? Yes, please. I was totally hooked watching their relationship unfold through texts while they were still bickering in real life. The tension, the banter, the slow realization—it all hit just right. Add in a destination wedding, one bed (of course), and a whole lot of unresolved feelings, and I couldn’t put it down.
Was it a little predictable? Yeah. Did I care? Absolutely not. The chemistry and heart made up for it. If you love enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, and just the right amount of angst, you’ll have a blast with this one..

I just want to say that for some reason this is the second book that I've read within the last week that has a FMC that is a mathematical baddie sports analyst and I am here for it! Emmy is still constantly trying to prove herself in a male dominated field, which I can totally relate to. Her work nemesis, Gabe, is up for the same promotion as she is in the worst possible timing. While this competition is going on at work, Emmy gets a text from an unknown number and strikes up an unexpected friendship with the mystery texter. The connection between the two of them is present in their first text exchange and only gets better. They confide in each other and come to be each other's confidant without ever knowing each other's real name. I absolutely loved that they were texting each other about events that they shared without knowing it. I loved the characters and really enjoyed this classic rom-com storyline. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the gifted eARC. All opinions are my own.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne and You've Got Mail combined.
Last Night Was Fun is my first Holly Michelle's book. Emmy and Gabe have serious chemistry. Gabe is an ex-baseball player, now a consultant, and Emmy, a data analyst with a big heart for baseball, are coworkers. Everyone undermines Emmy. She is a woman in a man's world. Gabe does this too ignorantly. He doesn't see Emmy as less but still his actions undermine her and others' relish in their competition.
I love that he is not the "different" one. We see him grow, knowing while his thoughts don't undermind, his competitive nature unwillingly does the opposite.
I wish they would text and stay a mystery longer. After, they find out their mystery text pal are each other, they are way too okay for someone who spilled their secret to a stranger, who turns out to be your coworker.
Lovely couple, sizzling chemistry, but pacing could be better

Thanks to Netgalley & Avon/Harper Voyager for the E-ARC! Really cute! Fun characters & cute setting. Excited for more from this author!

Last Night Was Fun delivers exactly what the title promises—fun, flirty banter, and a story full of heart. Golly Michelle creates characters who are easy to root for, with chemistry that leaps off the page. The dialogue sparkles, and the emotional moments are genuine without being overdone.
That said, the plot was a bit predictable at times. I saw some of the twists coming early on, which took away a bit of the tension. Still, it didn’t take away too much from my enjoyment. This is the kind of book that feels like a cozy night in with your favorite rom-com—a comfort read in the best way.
If you’re looking for a feel-good romance with lovable characters and a lot of heart, this one’s worth picking up!

This was fun, similar to The Hating Game with the workplace nemesis thing, and it reminds me of another book also with the unknown number turning out to be the nemesis premise (I can't remember the title), and taking your nemesis to your sibling's wedding à la Spanish Love Deception. That said, it had a couple of fresh takes, and was a very nice read. I enjoyed the author's way of telling this story and spent a very lovely afternoon reading it!

Emmy is out here crunching numbers and trying to survive in the baseball bro-verse as a data analyst—and now she’s up for a big promotion. Only catch? She’s gotta beat out her insufferably hot (and annoyingly competent) coworker Gabe. Oh, and her dating life is a disaster… until she gets a mystery text from a random guy, and instead of blocking it like a normal person, she keeps texting back. Chaos ensues. Obviously.
The banter? On point.
The chemistry? Sparks, baby.
The texting-turned-flirting-turned-feelings? Delicious.
Yes, it gives You’ve Got Mail vibes, but honestly? I ate it up.
I loved watching Emmy and her mystery man slowly break down those walls – especially through their sweet, spicy, and sometimes downright hilarious text convos. Plus, seeing Emmy deal with the male-dominated sports world while proving she’s a badass? Chef’s kiss. I appreciated that the author didn’t shy away from showing the real challenges women face in those spaces.
Only ding? That third-act breakup. We didn’t need that stress! The story had enough tension without it.
Still, this was a light, fun, flirty little escape that left me smiling. 10/10 recommend if you’re into wrong number romances, baseball vibes, and rooting for a heroine who refuses to shrink herself.

Holly Michelle really knocks it out of the park with Last Night Was Fun.
This book was exactly what I needed - A great summer romance!
This book hits several of my favorite tropes:
❣️(Workplace) Enemies to lovers (okay, true enemies to lovers is hard to do in romance, so workplace enemies to lovers works as a stand-in!)
❣️Wedding dates (SUE ME! I LOVE a relationship of necessity. I love weddings. I love all of it.)
❣️ONE. BED. (I’m such a sucker for one bed)
❣️You’ve Got Mail trope? Hidden identity? (what is this trope ACTUALLY called?)
I didn’t LOVE the third act break up and actually got really mad at Emmy for thinking Gabe would pull something like that, but she made up for it with her big grand romantic gesture.
I’ve read Holly Michelle under her other name of Holly James (as noted in her About the Author section, so I am *not* doxxing her!) and I was so surprised that this book had some 🌶️ spicy🌶️ scenes! I quite enjoyed The Deja Glitch (I’m a sucker for a time loop!) and was actually surprised because I typically don’t enjoy closed-door romances, but I think I enjoyed it because the writing didn’t make it seem overly necessary - I enjoyed the characters and their love story, not just their sex story. The same can be said for this book, even though it is open-door. I don’t think that the spicy scenes are “smut just for smut’s sake” - I do think they move the plot and relationship forward, but there aren’t *so* many spicy scenes that you lose sight of the plot. I was much more invested in the relationship between Emmy and Gabe than anything physical between them.
Thank you to the author and publisher, and to NetGalley for a free eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. It’s been an honor and a privilege, and I can’t wait to go grab a copy of this book when it hits shelves on June 10, 2025!

4.5 Stars! I loved this book! It was the perfect cross over of the hating game and you’ve got mail (and sprinkle in a little moneyball). The banter was superb and it’s just a silly fun (predictable) story that will get anyone out of a reading slump. I felt like the book could have been a little more descriptive which is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars bc I really liked the storyline. Looking forward to more by this author

Last Night Was Fun is such a great read! Full of heart, romance, adventure, and humor. An absolutely delightful book that excellently navigates heavier topics while also remaining lighthearted, positive, and hopeful.
Emmy, the FMC, is a data analyst for a baseball team. She’s fully concentrated on her career and forgoes dating. As the only woman on her team, she wants to prove herself as much as possible. Emmy unexpectedly ends up getting a text message saying “last night was fun” from an unknown number. She starts to chat with the mystery guy and realizes that she really enjoys their conversations. Gabe, the MMC, works with Emmy and she detests him. A senior analyst position open up and both Gabe and Emmy are vying for it. As the competition between Emmy and Gabe for the promotion heats up, Emmy finds comfort in texting with the mystery man. Little do they both know that they are actually texting each other. When they find out who is on the other side of the texts, things start to get messy. Emmy decides to invite Gabe to accompany her to a wedding as her fake date so she doesn’t have to go alone. And, the more time they spend together, the more they both realize that they truly have genuine feelings for each other.
Immediately from the first chapter, it was super evident that this is a fun, entertaining, and enjoyable read. The banter and chemistry were top notch and the swoony moments throughout were so great. The family moments were so sweet and deeper emotions were addressed so well. Emmy and Gabe are such an awesome couple and their story was an amazing one! A witty, engaging, lighthearted read that is absolutely perfect for summer! Highly recommend this for contemporary romance fans!
Tropes:
- Enemies to lovers
- Forced proximity
- Workplace romance
- Baseball setting
- Only one bed
- Fake dating

Thank you so much for the ARC of this book! Last Night Was Fun turned out to be such a fun read with far more depth and character development than I anticipated! The slow burn of the main characters was palpable and I really enjoyed the context of their enemies to lovers trope. Overall I was so impressed and loved it!!

6/5 - I'm obsessed!! The characters were perfect, the relationship was grounded and still sweeping, and the ending was epic. It read so fast but also felt like I'd been reading it for forever (in the best way).

I enjoyed this a lot (even though I don't care for the miscommunication trope or a third-act breakup). I thought the banter was cute, and I liked the progression of the romance. I also thought the Grand Gesture at the end was really sweet.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read & review this!

Thank you, Netgalley and Avon, for the free eARC. I received this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

A wrong number turns into an instant connection between 2 people. They don’t share their real names, so when they finally meet in person, they are surprised to see that they know each other.
This was a cute workplace romance that was reminiscent of The Hating Game and You’ve Got Mail. I always like texts in books, I don’t know why, but I just really do! They had great banter in the texts.
