Thank you to Avon for the advanced reader copy! 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘞𝘢𝘴 𝘍𝘶𝘯 follows baseball data analyst Emmy Jameson as she's up for a promotion against her handsome work rival, Gabe Olson. She's balancing her career and maid of honor duties for her sister's upcoming destination wedding when she receives a mysterious text message from a stranger. The text turns into conversation which easily leads to a deep connection, and Emmy invites him to the family wedding. The only problem? The mysterious texter is Gabe Olson.

I devoured the first half of this book! It felt written for me - women in STEM representation, baseball, and a fresh take on 𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘷𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘭. Emmy and Gabe had great chemistry and tension, and I adored their interactions when they were absolutely oblivious to the other's identity. Once the plot advanced to the wedding in Mexico, I started to lose interest and ultimately felt that it dragged from that point to the third act breakup. I wasn't a huge fan of the forced conflict, however I did like Holly's approach with the FMC grand gesture to resolve the conflict instead of the more commonly seen MMC grand gestures.

I also connected with the exploration of grief, which added a deeper plot line and interesting dimension to the lighthearted romance genre. The story also includes references to a career-ending injury and can be categorized as a sports romance. This book is full of banter and joy, but also includes the reality of finding someone in your twenties, balancing a career and love life, working as a woman in an office full of men, and grieving the loss of a family member amidst life milestones. It's a new comfort read of mine!

𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘞𝘢𝘴 𝘍𝘶𝘯 is the perfect summer read and hits shelves this June!

This was cute and I loooooooved the You’ve Got Mail/The Hating Game aspects. The end conflict bugged me a little, but it ended great and the grand gesture was cute. This is a me thing but I think I would have loved it even more as DUAL POV 1st person, but again that’s a me thing.

This was really cute! I loved the anonymous text flirting, the nerdy co-workers who love to hate each other but secretly like the other, the sweetness of Gabe, Emmy's confidence in a world mostly made of men, and of course, the spice, the supportive and fun co-workers, and Emmy's family. The third act breakup did make me dislike Emmy a bit. But she definitely pulled a grand gesture off that earned my respect. It's rare that a FMC is the one who has to make a grand gesture, so I appreciated the change-up (baseball pun intended). So if that's all I disliked, then I call this book a winner.

I haven't read any books by this author, but I'll definitely read another.

"Last Night Was Fun" gives the vibes of an early 2000s romcom and I am loving it. It follows Emmy Jameson, baseball data statistics analyst, fighting to prove herself in a "boys world", especially against her archnemesis Gabe Olson, and prove to her family that her career is more important than a ;relationship. However, the latter seems to crumble when she receives a text from an unknown number with a simple "last night was fun :)" and she finds herself wanting to talk to mystery guy more than she has wanted to talk to anyone before. You'll have to read it to find out what happens from there, but it had me hooked and I did not want to put it down! I typically am not a fan of third person stories because I like to read the emotions that the characters are feeling, but Holly Michelle conveyed her character's emotions very well.

*Last Night Was Fun* delivers a delightful romance sparked by a mistaken text—only for the two people involved to unknowingly be workplace rivals. Emmy Jameson, a data analyst for a pro-league baseball team, is vying for a major promotion, but the competition is stiff—especially since her biggest rival is golden boy Gabe Olsen. As she navigates the high-stakes battle at work, she’s also falling for her anonymous texting partner, only to discover it’s Gabe on the other end.

This book strikes the perfect balance of romance, humor, and steam. I had such a great time reading *Last Night Was Fun* by Holly Michelle! If you’re a fan of *You’ve Got Mail*, *The Hating Game*, baseball, or fun, flirty yet heartfelt romances, this is one to read.

A huge thank you toNetGalley Avon and Harper Voyager for the ARC!

This book was such a delightful read! From the very first page, I found myself completely immersed in the story. The writing was so approachable and warm, making it easy to connect with the characters and the plot. I loved how the book felt both inviting and engaging, without ever being too complex or hard to follow. It was just the right mix of comfort and intrigue, and I truly enjoyed every moment of it. It’s a wonderful read that I’d happily recommend to anyone looking for a heartwarming escape!

1. I didn't know this is the same author as Name Your Price. I thoroughly enjoyed that one last year and thought it was super fun to see glimpses of that in this book.

2. The romance world is so incredibly hockey filled right now that baseball was an amazing gift. I love that neither are current athletes and that they have their own personal attachments to the sport, but there was much more than just baseball between them.

3. As a woman in farming, I LOVED the women in a male dominated industry story. I loved her perspective and struggles and the open communication that came from it.

4. This was just fun. I liked the story. I liked their connection. I liked the tension between the romance and their jobs and the family. It was just a good time and I am so glad for it.

Last Night Was Fun follows a romance started by a text to a wrong number — except the two people unknowingly work together. The main character Emmy Jameson is a data analyst for a pro-league baseball team; she’s up for a huge promotion at work, unfortunately against golden boy Gabe Olsen. Meanwhile she’s exploring her chemistry with her unknown texting suitor, only to find out it’s Gabe on the other side.

In general I’m not a huge fan of You’ve Got Mail-esque romances and yet I still always request them. Don’t get me wrong — I had fun with this book! But I would say that the basis of such a book needs to have as good a chemistry in the texts/emails/letters/whatever as the couple’s dynamic in real life for it to actually work. I felt like Emmy and Gabe’s texts were kinda dry, especially compared to their interactions in person.

Otherwise, I did enjoy the dynamic between the two of them. As much as she dislikes Gabe, as they spend some more time together outside of work, she discovers that there’s a different side to him that she relates to.

I also enjoyed the characters in general; Emmy’s work is a man’s world but her female boss is very supportive and encourages her to go outside her comfort zone and demand her place at the table. If you’re a fan of You’ve Got Mail and/or rivals-to-lovers romances, you’ll enjoy Last Night Was Fun!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ *A Captivating, Heartfelt Journey*
*Last Night Was Fun* by Holly Michelle is an absolute gem! From the first page to the last, I was hooked by the authenticity and warmth of the characters. The storytelling is engaging, blending humor with emotional depth effortlessly. Michelle’s writing makes you feel like you're walking alongside the characters, experiencing their triumphs and struggles. It’s rare to find a book that feels so real yet so captivating. The way she weaves personal growth, relationships, and life’s complexities into such an enjoyable read is nothing short of brilliant. I couldn’t put it down and can’t recommend it enough! A must-read for fans of heartfelt contemporary fiction!

I love (LOVE) You’ve Got Mail. So when I saw Last Night Was Fun by Holly Michelle pitched as You’ve Got Mail meets The Hating Game, I knew I had to dive right in!

Emmy has sworn off of relationships. After all, between her dream job as a baseball data analyst, her best friend, and her sister’s upcoming wedding, she doesn’t even have time for a relationship. So when she receives a text saying “last night was fun,” she knows it was meant for someone else. Texting back proves to be a lot of fun, though, and gives Emmy a chance to open up to someone sweet. Emmy needs a plus one for her sister’s wedding, and her mystery man seems like the perfect option. That is, until she finds out that mystery man is Gabe, the guy she’s up against for a promotion. Which one is the real Gabe - the flirty, sweet, caring man from the texts, or the highly competitive rival from the office?

I loved Emmy and Gabe’s texting relationship. It was so fun to see a modern nod to You’ve Got Mail that really worked. I loved how they both opened up about their insecurities and supported each other in moving through them, and how that support continued even after they realized who they had been talking to.

As someone who is not into baseball, I was definitely happy about the amount of baseball content that was included - just enough to make it realistic, but not over the top to the point that I got lost!

I will say that I don’t always love workplace rivals storylines because they often feel like the woman has to put aside the misogyny that she faces to make the story work. And while I didn’t love that Gabe talked over Emmy at work, Michelle did a good job setting this up in a way that I understood and didn’t feel like Emmy was settling.

Overall, I really enjoyed Last Night Was Fun by Holly Michelle! If you like You’ve Got Mail, The Hating Game, baseball, and/or fun, flirty yet caring relationships, be sure to check out Last Night Was Fun when it comes out on 6/10! Many thanks to Avon, Netgalley, and Holly Michelle for an ARC.

Last Night Was Fun was a delightful mix of flirty banter, workplace rivalry, and the kind of mistaken-identity romance that made You’ve Got Mail so iconic. Emmy and Gabe’s enemies-to-lovers dynamic had all the tension of a championship game—equal parts competitive and electric.
Emmy was a fantastic protagonist—sharp, ambitious, and constantly underestimated in a male-dominated field. Her rivalry with Gabe was fun to watch, especially as their text-flirting relationship unfolded without either of them realizing the truth. The slow-burn reveal of their real identities was both hilarious and heartwarming, making their inevitable collision at her sister’s wedding even more entertaining.
Gabe, for his part, was the perfect mix of cocky and sweet, and it was easy to root for him once Emmy started seeing beyond their workplace rivalry. Their chemistry—both in and out of their anonymous text exchanges—was top-tier, with plenty of witty back-and-forths and undeniable romantic tension.
If anything, the story leaned a little too hard on misunderstandings at times, but the payoff was well worth it. With baseball, banter, and a swoon-worthy romance, Last Night Was Fun was an easy win for sports romance fans!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

writing a romance book in third person is always a risky move. the best part about romance books is truly getting to know the characters, getting to be right there with them as they fall in love. third person means an inherent detachment from the characters and the story that did not work in this book's favor. the. premise of asking someone you've never met to attend a destination wedding with you is out there already, and maybe if we got to truly be inside the main character's mind the author could've successfully gotten away with it, but instead the premise came across as childish and odd. 3 stars.

This book was so good! Had an absolute blast while reading this. It was very much like You've Got Mail & The Hating Game which I love.

If you like rivals to lovers, you're gonna devour this one. Emmy & Gabe are workplace nemeses, but unbeknownst to them, they have been texting each other under nicknames when Emmy receives a text from a random number. They find this out when Emmy invites Gabe/mystery man to her sister's destination wedding. Juicy drama! The romance here is great. I really enjoyed the texting between these two. I enjoyed their chemistry a lot.

This had the perfect blend of romance, humor and steam. This would be a great vacation read.

Where to begin. This book was a fun read and one I would overall recommend. As my quirky rating system goes I would rate it as “better than average.” What surprised me most is that unlike most books that grab my attention and then lose it along the way, Last Night Was Fun started a bit rocky and then captivated my attention the more I read. My skepticism at first was in large part because the texting between the main characters felt juvenile and the plot seemed somewhat obvious, and yet the author capitalized on those exact thoughts to further the story. For all the predictability, Last Night Was Fun somehow still surprised me. By the end I was deeply invested and happy to have gone along on the journey.

It's You’ve Got Mail mixed with The Wedding Date, a sprinkle of Never Been Kissed, and a touch of Pretty Woman all set in a Moneybag backdrop in this romantic comedy by Holly Michelle.

It may sound weird to have all of these movie tropes mixed together into one, but it all makes sense for Emmy and Gabe as they are working together for the San Diego baseball organization. Crossed lines of communication over text via a fake number debacle combined with poor workplace communication mean that the two characters are having two separate relationships - one budding romance over text and one contentious rivalry in the office. However, when their secret texting comes to light and it coincides with Emmy needing a date to her sister’s wedding, things start to look up for both of them.

This is a cute rom-com with a HEA and some enjoyable side characters. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced digital copy.

Last Night Was Fun by Holly Michelle is a delightful and witty romance. Emmy Jameson, a talented data analyst, competes for a promotion with her coworker Gabe Olson, who she unknowingly flirts with via text. I really enjoyed this book! I have never read anything by Holly Michelle but will be sure to seek her out in the future. The book follows Emmy, a sports statistician who starts texting with a stranger. The more she texts with the stranger, the more her feelings develop. The plot was somewhat predictable but very fun and enjoyable. By the end of the book, I felt like I personally knew the main characters. I also loved Emmy's profession--you don't often get to read a rom com where the female lead character is a statistician. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends!
