This was the first book by Sarah Anderson that I’ve read and I enjoyed it. I liked the heroine a great deal—her heartwrenchingly poor background and irresponsible parents shaped her into a very responsible woman who values stability above all else, which I admired about her.
The hero was sympathetic, too—he was trying to move away from the shadow of his infamous two-timing, womanizer father while keeping the company together, not helped by his spendthrift playboy younger brother and greedy, grasping soon-to-be ex-wife. The turmoil and conflict in his life is very real and emotional, and I could really feel for him.
The two of them together seemed so perfect for each other, because she was completely resistant to his wealth and gifts, and uncomfortable with anything she hasn’t worked for herself, and he has no experience with women like that, since all the women in his life have been hard and selfish.
While I could see how they fit together emotionally, it was a little hard for me to feel their sexual attraction to each other. At times I felt I was being told about their attraction to each other rather than feeling it myself. But I liked reading about how they handled their relationship despite all the obstacles.
I was really interested to see how the hero’s external problems would resolve themselves, and the author did that in a really nice way. A good resolution and happy ending to this book.
