I don't need to read the blurb to throw myself into a book by Andrew Mayne.
The plot, as usual with the author, is intricate, keeping you on edge, guessing and wanting to know more. In this case the mystery is investigated by his most iconic and charismatic characters brought together in one book and that has delighted me.
It is not necessary to read the previous ones because this is the beginning of a new series, however I am sure that if you read this one, you will have to read the others. Highly recommended.

Mr Whisper is the beginning of a new thriller series, The Specialists. Characters from the authors other series all play a key role in this new series. Investigator Sloan McPherson, from the Underwater Investigation Unit, begins the story as she is investigating a mysterious person in the Everglades. The man has a messed up memory and went missing as a teenager from the other side of the country. FBI agent Jessica Blackwood and scientist Theo Cray, from their own series, are called into investigate when a teenager attempts a school shooting with no ammo and a messed up memory and a feeling everything is a dream. Corporate security expert and retired spy Brad Trasker, from his own series, is working behind the scenes to uncover a mysterious manipulator. Missing teenagers, an old book, and signs of memory manipulation put all the investigators on the trail of an evil mastermind using vulnerable young people to do his dirty work. While all the characters appear in the story, the majority of the story emphasizes Jessica and Theo as the main characters. The story twists and turns into an unpredictable and shocking thriller that keeps the pages turning and suspense building. The author provides prime material for his greatest characters to continue in a new storyline and a promising new series. My voluntary, unbiased, and non-mandatory review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.

I was offered the opportunity to read this great book on NetGalley and raced through it! For anyone who has read other books by Andrew Mayne, there are the familiar and well-loved investigators but if you’re new to this author then it works equally well as an introduction to their various and individual approaches.
I love Andrew’s style of writing and the way he plots his books! The plots are complicated and convoluted but the books are easy to read, I don’t know how he does it! There is plenty of action and lots of brain teasing detail along the way. I particularly like the way this book brings the ‘specialists’ from previous books together to address an even more complicated problem and the way all their skills are combined. I hope we see them working together in future books.
I loved this and couldn’t put it down … now I’m heading off to make sure I’ve read all the previous books by this author!
