I found this to be an interesting and informative read. It helped me understand the holiday. I also like the colorful illustrations.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book and I will be purchasing a copy to go alongside the day of the dead Pawprint badge we will be working towards in Autumn. This book is full of interesting facts, recipes, crafts and games and is bright and colourful.

This book is short, sweet guide to understanding the basics of the holiday Día de los Muertos, and understanding why and how it is celebrated. I feel that the author covered the most important symbols and very basic history of the tradition. I also love the quick, but necessary distinctions such as the modern holiday is an amalgamation of the Aztecs (which doesn't represent all of Mexico) and the influence of Spain (and by extension, the Catholic Church) to become what it is today. I also appreciated the stress placed on the fact that Dia de Los Muertos is not "Mexican Halloween."

It's obvious that the author took great care into condensing a great history into a easy-to-digest book that I believe not only children can learn from and enjoy, but adults as well!

Lovely book!

I really enjoyed reading it. I love learning new things especially about celebrations around death in different cultures.
This book is perfect for children who are new to death and would like to understand this sad reality in a new way.
As a catholic with Slavic roots I love to see the similarities between Mexican Dia de los Muertos and our version of it - Dziady.
This book vastly so much fun to read and I just loved the illustrations as well! I got so much inspiration for this spooky season!

Why We Celebrate Día de los Muertos is a straight-forward and easy to understand children's book about the holiday. This would be a great resource in early elementary, which is the intended audience. It includes a lot of information, but also some fun recipes and activities. I really liked the idea for the marshmallow sugar skulls.!

Thanks to Callisto Publishing and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.

I. Absolutely. Love. This. Beautiful. Book!

Day of the Dead is one of my favorite celebrations of the year as it is such a unique chance to hold hands with the living and the loved ones who are no longer with us. It’s a chance to stay connected to your roots. And this book does such a wonderful job at showcasing this and helping others to either feel very seen within these pages OR to help others understand something they aren’t familiar with or are looking to learn more about.

I really love the pages in the back with DIY recipes for some of the items that were discussed earlier in the book. I’m excited to try the pan de muerto recipe this year and make some papel picado with my kids! I also really enjoyed the portion of the book that explained with day of the dead looks like in different cultures. As a Catholic the portion on All Saints and All Souls Day were spot on! It’s fun to be represented and to see those representations to share with your kids.

I also love that this is a book for young readers and that it is a chance to help normalize death into our culture. Melanie did such a fantastic job with the writing of this book and Javiera brought the ideas to life with her gorgeous illustrations.

I can’t wait to purchase this book for our home!
