Highly entertaining and a good go to comfort read. These are the books I like to come home to after a long day at work. Easy to slip into and do not require a lot from the reader. Charley Davidson is fun and quirky and gives me what I need in an easy read!

More of a 3.5 rating.
Not as fulfilling as the last book, Seventh Grave and No Body at least keeps up with Charley and her antics. For me again, the side stories are able to keep this story arc flowing as well. Although I was a bit bored by the middle of the book the action was enough to keep the pages turning.
This is good addition to the series, lets see what the next book brings.

Hidey-ho fellow SMPer! I'm just leaving a review that I don't want you to publish because I checked this book out via Netgalley and am trying to raise my score. I wish we could send ebooks from the MDL to our Kindle! Please don't post this publically haha! I didn't feel like it was honest to leave a review working for the company!

I'm going to write this review as a "series" review because, quite frankly, I binge read the whole series THIRTEEN books in one week. I literally couldn't put them down. When I read the last page of the last book, I wanted to cry.

Book one hooks you from the start. The world that Darynda built within this series is phenomenally creative. It's full of magic and mystery. The hero is the perfect anti-hero turned true hero that I've read in a long, long time. My heart broke for the trials and tribulations the hero and heroine went through to get to the end of the series. Calling it an emotional rollercoaster doesn't even cover the vast span of emotions that the author drags the reader through.

The only complaint I have is that the series ended.... there was a "the end" and I didn't want to be done yet. A complete must read for all PNR lovers!

Okay guys, I took notes and refused to let myself start book 8 until I sat down to write this review. So hopefully this review will be better than my reviews for the previous books in this series.

I liked the pop culture references. Sometimes this bugs me because it can automatically date a book, but these weren't references like "I love watching Breaking Bad" or "Twilight is my favorite book." Instead, there's mention of Jesse Pinkman, Heisenberg, and Bella... You just know or don't know the references. Those are the kinds I like. Also, "Friendbook" is just funny.

This series has a way of shining light on some of the worst of humanity. I know the cases that Charley takes on are fiction, but they're not far-fetched in many aspects. (Some of them are because this is a fantasy series after all, but unfortunately, most of them are realistic.) And this makes me so sad for humanity. I appreciate this in fiction because the cases are compelling, but in some ways, it messes with my mind. Especially when my Husband was telling me a horrible story that was real that I could see blending right into Charley's world.

A complaint that I've had over the entire series but haven't had the wherewithal to mention until now is how so many people that meet Charley seem to be aware that she's capable of doing different things, but they're keeping information to themselves. I realize the idea is for Charley to learn herself and grow over the series, but it can be frustrating as a reader to constantly read that a character is capable of XYZ or should know XYZ but can't or doesn't. Finally, Charley makes some significant strides forward in her abilities.

I very much appreciate that while this series doesn't follow religious theology necessarily, it doesn't discount God. In fact, the opposite is true. Charley mentions God in a respectful way more than once. I feel like this is so missing from literature today but especially from the fantasy genre. Why mention God when you can make up an entirely new religion or deity? Super applause to Darynda Jones for the decision making where this is concerned (at least up until this point in the series). She could always screw this up for me in the next few books.

However, Charley has recently been described as being a god in the other plane that she was from. Alternate planes and realities are something I struggle within books. This hasn't been a huge issue for me in this series so far because while they are mentioned the characters aren't traveling back and forth between them. But more and more Charley is being described in a way concerning the other plane that is confusing to me. Her personality seems to clash with who she's supposed to be...not just royalty but as a "god". I'm hoping this doesn't become too much bigger of a plot point.

I'm never a huge fan of descriptive scenes. Thankfully they're not too frequent in each book and they don't derail from the plot nor do they go on and on and on as some books I've read. I will plead with Darynda Jones, however, to lose the word "suckled" during these scenes. I cringe every time I see this word. Especially during these scenes.

This series has become a favorite and Seventh Grave and No Body is probably my favorite of the series so far. The advance in the series plot finally moved forward a good bit. Seventh Grave and No Body gets 4.5 Stars. Have you read Seventh Grave and No Body? What did you think? Let me know!

A re-read thanks to a promotion by Netgalley for the final Charley Davidson book. I love this series and so happy to have it in my e-reader instead of getting a loan from the library.

I'm going to have to take a break with the series again, I think. I was truly irritated with Charley in this one. No spoilers. Not my way. But Charley without coffee...is like me without coffee, LOL! I get the characterization of her...I get it, I do...but gah, I kind of wanted to chuck my kindle. It's pretty bad when you're rooting for the son of Satan, right? #SorryNotSorry

The world is still top notch, the secondary characters campy and fun... it's the unnecessary danger and prolonging of the angst and situational stress she seems to bring on herself that is aggravating to me today.

I am so torn on my rating.
I still love Charley and the rest of the gang.
But Reyes....

He is just so over the top broody.

I can not stand their dysfunctional relationship!

Reyes hates it when Charley 'feels sorry for him'
Get over it she loves you and it affects her when you are hurt
Charley wants to be independent and insists on putting herself in stupid situations
Get over it, you are being stupid and reckless.

Can we move on now?

The story progresses quickly with the 13 approaching and new revelations. The token side mystery is there as always, because Charley can't prioritize or focus (but we love her anyway). If I remember correctly, I believe Charley was the only one that didn't get pummeled in this episode.
Probably because:
Prego

This one started off Reyes heavy and I was HATING it by the first 10% or so, but then he slipped to the passenger seat and let Charley take over the story and I was happier.
I may have to burn off his eye lashes at some point....then he cant look at her from 'under' them anymore.

I love the humour. It's constantly making me laugh. And as a concept it's great - something completely original and fresh. While the characters are interesting enough that I want to keep reading, I'm starting to get really annoyed with Charley's friends and family. They don't trust her enough to tell her everything, so she keeps taking stupid risks. She's constantly betrayed by her friends and family, and yet she forgives them all. And she's starting to become a bit Mary Sue-ish. However the humour and witty banter is more than enough for me to forgive these faults and keep on reading.

So far, this is my favorite book in the Charley Davidson series. There is so much action. We get Charley being strong, Charley being vulnerable, Charley being stupid, Charley being funny. There is a lot going on in this book and we are getting into some deep information about her status as a grim reaper and her abilities. The relationship with Reyes is hot and heavy. Charley and her band of friends and allies must band together to defeat the beasts of hell. I really am enjoying the depth as we get closer to the last book (13). Things are developing nicely and getting serious but there is still a lot of humor and romance to ease the tension. I love that Osh and Swopes are involved in this book at a greater level and I cannot wait to see where Darynda Jones takes this series in books 8 through 13.

Seventh Grave and No Body by Darynda Jones.
A fantastic read with great characters. Love Charley character. How she is. I would love to see this as a series on TV.
I wondered who the thirteenth warrior was. It wasn't who I thought it was. Looking forward to the next book. 4*.

When I’m this far into a series it’s so hard to review it without spoiling it for everyone but, I will give it a try. Charley already has so much that she needs to watch out for for the safety of her and her loved ones. She still needs to decide when and if she was going to get married to Reyes. In a shock to herself and everyone there is now one more thing to be worried about. She even has to go save her dad! Charley is my hero! Thank you to #NetGalley for allowing me to review this book. Onto the next one in the series!

Seventh Grave and No Body is the next book in the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones. I am still binge reading, and still recommend reading the series in order. Not only will it make the read more fun, but it is well worth the time.

Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiance who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.

Seventh Grave and No Body is full of fun twists and turns, and plenty of grin worthy comments from Charley. The books are starting to get more intense and emotional, but there is still the humor of Charley's ADD fueled comments and mental tangent. Charley and the group are dealing with huge issues, and taking the time to figure out how they are always making each other angry and having misunderstandings is low on their priority list, but I think a few heart to hearts might have lowered everyone's stress level in several instances. I will admit that I really read these books for the humor, snark, and heat because reading is my escape. However, I am fully invested in these characters and while I prefer the snark to the sap I am still thoroughly enjoying the series and am currently moving onto the next read. I know there are plenty of though moments coming but I there will be plenty of fun waiting for me as well.

This series is always in high demand at my library. The characters Daryna Jones uses are delightful and my readers love getting to know them more each book. Fabulous series!

Seventh Grave and No Body finds Charley pregnant, trying to find her father, solving crimes with her uncle, and trying to evade the evil twelve hell hounds that have been sent to kill her. Phew! Only Charley can shuffle everything and remain afloat! Ms. Jones continues to keep me in suspense and try to figure out what kind of mischief Charley will get herself in and out of. I absolutely love this series. I am forcing myself to read it slowly, because I know that it is slowly and excitingly coming to a future conclusion. This book had more twists and turns that are usually found in her previous books. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to what happens next. Thank you Ms. Jones and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.

As always there is a lot going on in this book but I think the funniest thing would have to be Charley trying to quit caffeine, I think that girl has coffee running through her veins instead of blood so it's a huge shock to her system when she goes cold turkey! In the grand scheme of things that's the least of her worries though, she's being haunted by her best friend turned enemy, her dad has gone awol, she only has about 8 months to learn how to be a responsible adult, oh and there are twelve deadly, impossible to kill, hellhounds who are out for her blood. Just a normal day for her really.

I love the snark in this series, these books never fail to make me laugh out loud but I've also come to genuinely care about Charley and her motley crew of sidekicks. It was easy to fall for Reyes and his mysterious bad boy persona but Cookie, Ubie, Garrett, Angel & Rocket are all firm favourites and I really like new addition Osh too. As much as I love seeing Charley working as a PI and solving cases I'm really liking the way we're getting to learn more about her grim reaper abilities and that the supernatural is playing a bigger role in the stories.

There was a lot to love about this book and one particular scene at the end was something I'd waited a long time for and was very happy about. Unfortunately it was followed by something that was absolutely heartbreaking for Charley and it's going to be hard watching her deal with the fallout from that in the next book. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series though and can't wait to continue reading.

In Seventh Grave and No Body Charlie is now pregnant and Reyes is very protective over them both especially since the hell hounds are now closing in. Charlie is asked to help solve an unsolved case of a family who was murdered at a camp. It was a great read. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.

The mysteries continue to build and some get to unfold. It continues to be an amazing series. Darynda Jones is masterful at managing the balance of genres. It's completely addicting and I can't stop recommending the books to people.

Fantastic series! I absolutely love these characters! Everyone one of them fit together like a crazy puzzle! Charley has a lot on her plate, 12 crazed deadly beats are "hell" bent on ripping Charley apart and now her father has disappeared while working on his own personal investigation and she is starting to believe that she doesn't even know him. This is a great UF series! please do yourself a favor and start from book 1, it will make things so much easier!
