I couldn’t get into this book, the concept was interesting and I loved the cover art but it just wasn’t for me

I wanted to read 'Letters From the Andes' because of the unique portrayal of 1970s South America in women's fiction, and on this Elena Bell delivers. Having a young Canadian woman witness the hardships and hope found in late-20th century Ecuador is fascinating. However, Renée and Sergio's motivations and choices are jarring to me. I will not be finishing the book. If you enjoy reading culturally rich and socially complex stories, then I recommend this book to you.
