Sparrow is a thief in the middle of a desert town when a request is made to her to steal an artifact that changes her life.

We go on a wild journey and add some great side characters along the way. My only issue with this first installment was that I wanted more time with the characters to add some more depth to them. I did really appreciate the found family vibe of it all.

If YA is not your thing, this may not be for you. But I appreciated the action filled plot with minimal romance - it added to the plot rather than being the plot. This book is fun and unique and I want to know what happens next.

Let it be known that I love this author's writing style and binge read all of her Iron Fey series and spin off like no ones business so when i saw she was releasing another book (be it another trilogy) i knew i had to get my hot little hands on it.

If you are a fan of Assassins Creed, female BA assassins, the Fates, and found family this is the book for you! Also for fans of the animated Anastasia movie (trust me you will catch the reference fast) IYKYK. No spoilers but I started feeling a bit meh about things until over half way when something happened and it caught my attention right away.

I wasnt fully sure what was going to happen in this book and im glad i stuck around to the end to see it through because i could see this trilogy going many directions and cant wait to find out how the whole thing goes in the end.

Cant wait for the rest of the books!

I liked this one, it was giving me a little bit of The Mummy vibes.
You know ancient awakened evil, a line of assassin protectors, a thief in the wrong place outside the norm of fate needing some protecting, a goofy sidekick. The players a little mixed up, but same energy.

Sparrow is a thief in the Guild of Thieves. A shadowy group called The Circle oversees their operations and a request from them cannot be turned down.
Sparrow is very good, and chalks it all up to luck, but it may be a bit more than that. And she may be destined for greater things than she could ever imagine.

Enter a very good looking assassin, a fate chasing sidekick who finds himself in a place he should not be, and our motley crew is joined together in a plot to save the world.
A prophecy has been set in motion, and Sparrow can change it, alter it, and by drawing those around her into her orbit change their own path.

Action, a touch of chaste lingering romance, certain death, ancient evil king who wants to subjugate the world, and those who would stand against him once again. This is a solid, truly YA adventure. I wish this one gave a little bit more info getting to their destination but I'm sure a big reveal is to come.

This was so well written! The author crafted an epic journey that had it all. High stakes, romance, and characters to root for. Sparrow was a great MC to follow. I will definitely check out more from this author.

My Thoughts

For me the hardest part of starting a new series/trilogy by an author I enjoy is worrying whether or not the first book ends on a cliffhanger or has its satisfactory resolution with a lead in for a sequel.

I feel like that worry was for nothing as not only is this first story arc wrapped up but Sparrows’ work is not done and both anticipating but also dreading waiting for book two as I want it now not later!

The action throughout was both thrilling and at times scary, the characters given life in this story were interesting to learn about and the storylines crafted within their world intrigued and kept me guessing what would happen next.

As a lover of Fantasy and Magic this first foray into the authors new Trilogy delivered on its promises quite well for me.

This is the first book I've read by Julie Kagawa.

It's a story where survival is a constant struggle—people betray you, nature can be brutal, there are creatures, and even God...

I was drawn in by the annotation and the cover, and the plot did not disappoint! Sure, there are some nuances, but overall it was a fun read. I laughed at times, and Halek definitely my fav character!

It had such a great atmosphere! The quest for the artifact and all the thieving, plus the desert adventures, I really enjoyed it.

The romance didn't grab me too much; I liked that they didn't fall in love at first sight, but still, the moment of their closeness isn't really clear to me.

I’m definitely looking forward to the second part and might even check out another series by the author.

Alright. I am totally hooked. I have so many questions. I am totally in love with the characters and the lore and, oddly, the bugs. I am not usually fond of bugs but now I want a huge beetle to fly on. Fateless has started me on a journy that I am going to be anticipating the next installment. Will I be a fatechaser, following my destiny across a lifeless world teaming with life that refused to give up? Can Sparrow become her own destiny? Can I wait for the next book? Oh I hope so. I hope so.

The tension between her and Raithe is well-executed, though their relationship at times leans toward predictable. A bit more slow-burn development could have made their dynamic even stronger. However, the supporting cast shines, with Kysa’s fierce loyalty and Halek’s humor adding much-needed balance to the story’s darker themes.

While "Fateless" starts off strong and maintains a gripping pace for much of the journey, the middle section lags slightly before ramping up to an action-packed finale. The betrayals, though somewhat predictable, serve the story well, pushing Sparrow to evolve in ways that feel earned. The book leaves some unanswered questions, setting the stage for what promises to be an even more intense sequel.

Overall, “Fateless” is an enthralling start to a new fantasy series, combining pulse-pounding action, rich world-building, and a compelling protagonist. We follow our main character sparrow who is an accomplished thief and she is sent on a mission that goes a little awry.
Vivid world building, compelling characters and an action packed adventure that did not let go until the end.

This is the first Julie Kagawa book I have read. HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT HER?!

This story was marvelous, and the world built in this story was very talented. It was quick to pick up and kept my attention until the very end! This book has everything - impassioned tempo, defying fate, rejecting prophecies. There are betrayals, thieves, beasts, and more!

The characters we so well designed and described. While I was reading, I was able to immerse myself into their world with my own imagination.

Fateless by Julie Kagawa stars Sparrow, a master thief, sent to retrieve an artifact in the underground ruins of the Deathless King, setting off chaotic time battling ancient enemies. The first half of the book was exciting with a strong female character in charge of her life but the second half turned her into a wimpy uncertain girl with no reason. If this is a trilogy, I will try the next one just to see if see regains her character.

I generally like Julie Kagawa books - they are fun, immersive and easy to read. This one is no different. A new world, new characters and a new start to a new series that will be absolutely captivating. Although I am not a fan of the FMC I still want to see the story unfold. Kagawa is a master at plots and unfolds them in such a way that the reader just falls into the world and the story. Such an enjoyable read.

This book, based on the author's note, is set in world similar to Assassin's Creed (I've only seen commercials for this game, but I will say it does visually look like what I imagined). The story follows Sparrow, a young thief, who has spent most of her life working for the Thieves Guild, and whenever she goes on missions she always seems to get lucky. One day her guildmaster, Vahn, says he has a special task for her that was given by the Circle who are the mysterious group in charge of the Thieves Guild. If Sparrow doesn't complete this task, it could mean death for not only her, but Vahn as well, who she cares for as he has basically raised her to adulthood. As she embarks on this task, she is pursued by Raithe, an assassin, who is hellbent on preventing the rise of the Deathless King. However, after a multitude of betrayals, everything Sparrow knew to be true is wrong and she must figure out her plan in this new world. In order to try to stop the destruction of their entire world, Sparrow ends up teaming up with Raithe along with a few characters Sparrow has met in her quest. This odd group of characters begin a journey to meet Raithe's queen to figure out the complete truth and how to prevent the destruction that is headed towards their world.

The world building in this book is done extremely well. I really enjoyed how the heat was described in this world with all of the lush green gone. It really added high stakes to the story as characters had tough times making it from point A to point B, even almost dying of heat stroke at times. The author did a great job as well with exposing different aspects of the history of the Deathless King throughout the story. While there was a lot of action going on, sometimes I felt like the book dragged on and I think it could have been cut in places. I'm assuming there is going to be a sequel as the book kind of just ends. The other thing I didn't like was the insta-love stuff with Raithe and Sparrow - this man was just trying to stop you and now you wanna kiss him. Authors need to work on their slowburns and yearning more.

I'm intrigued to see where this book goes though and if there is a sequel I will pick it up - I would give this book a 3.5 stars. It definitely has the potential to be an excellent series.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t this (and that’s not a criticism). The story was super immersive, and the world-building was really well done. My only issue was that I didn’t get attached to the characters and found it a little underwhelming at times, but the plot was creative and unique, so I’d say it’s definitely worth a shot! :)

4.5 stars for me: I was so excited to see that we had a new book from Julie Kagawa! It did not disappoint. The world building was fantastic and unique. I felt immersed in it. The storyline had me hooked and cheering Sparrow on. Her internal struggles were relatable in so many ways. The romance has stayed sweet so far and I’m hoping to see it grow. I really enjoy all of the characters that make up Sparrow’s group, though I would like to see more time of them bonding. Something about the friendships and romance feel a bit too simplistic and easy thus far. Whatever the case, it’s a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Julie Kagawa doesn’t just write a book—she throws you into it. Every twist had me gasping, every shadowy tomb and deadly encounter made my pulse race, and just when I thought I knew where things were headed… BAM. Fate had other plans. Fateless is about to become your newest obsession. I am fully unwell after reading this, and I need the sequel yesterday.

This was a very interesting premise, if I were to break it down, I’d say it’s Like The Mummy, except Evie is a thief with minimal emotional connections , there’s no Rick O’Connell, and the love interest is Ardeth Bay. Enjoyable, but I took me about half way through the book to start feeling invested and I still don’t really love the main character’s personality.

This story was amazing!! It immediately took off and had an intense pace throughout the entire story (especially the end!). The world-building was well done and I truly felt like I was in the story the entire time.

This is my first Julie Kagawa book and I am hooked!

As a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed series from the very first game (how in the world is the series 18 years old!?), when I read the author notes I got both excited and a tiny bit scared. I had seen some books being compared to the AC series before but ultimately failing to deliver. But I am glad to report back that, yes, Fateless more than delivers.

The series explores a rich, immersive, albeit harsh fantastical universe that lives in the shadows of the now dead Deathless Kings. We follow Sparrow, a young thief who'd spent her entire life working for and living with the Thieves guild. Her fate seems sealed until she receives a curious mission from the Circle, the mysterious group of individuals that seems to control the Thieves Guild from the shadows. And that's when all hell breaks loose.

I really enjoyed the world-building here. The attention to detail was evident, from the varying cultural and religious interpretations of "Fate' to the weather and impact of the harsh changing ecosystem and environments as a consequence of the death of said Deathless Kings. The writing is very atmospheric that I could practically see, feel and even smell, what the characters are being exposed to. Which wasn't always pleasant for the poor souls, let me tell you.

The characters are fun. I appreciate that the FMC actually showed vulnerability. In fact, her character development was done so well, I cheered for her aloud while reading towards the end. "FINALLY YOU GET IT!" In a very good way, haha. Her growth made sense and was handled very carefully and tastefully, in my opinion.

There are some spots where I felt the pacing was a bit slower, but this was usually followed with epic fast-paced action-packed scenes right after that they didn't really make me lost interest or anything. Especially that those scenes were important for character growth across the board.

Overall, I am very excited to read the sequel and I know I'll be recommending this to so many people in my life.
