What an intriguing book! This is different than my typical reads (aka Romance 😂) but I really enjoyed it! There was a small bit of romance, but it was more of healing and redemption. This takes place in two different timelines, which was really fascinating. It was the POV of two different FMC’s in their separate timelines, and the “ghost of Annabel” who haunted their lives. The mystery was really done well, and every single time I had thought I had figured it out, I was wrong 😂
The suspense and mystery was paced just right, and wasn’t too scary. I am a wuss and was able to handle it 😉😂 I really enjoyed the aspect of the lighthouse on Lake Superior too. It was such a fun setting for this story.
Definitely recommend this! It was a great way to mix up my usual reads. Thanks to the author and publisher for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.

“What are memories if they are only to be lost, and what is the lost unless it has potential to once again be found?”
A new Jaime Jo Wright book? Set in a haunted lighthouse on the shore of Lake Superior? YES PLEASE!!! That rumbling some of you may have felt was me jumping up and down in readerly glee. There may have even been some fangirl-level, giddy clapping. (There totally was.) Oh, my friends, Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse was everything I expected it to be – eerie, haunting, atmospheric, suspenseful, I-don’t-dare-breathe intense – and so much more!
The story begins briefly in Annabel’s point of view in 1852 with these ominous words: This great water will be my sepulcher. And in many ways, the other two female protagonists in our story could say the same… but with very different results from Annabel. The character growth that occurs in Rebecca during the 1874 timeline and Shea during the present day one is so meaningful, and the exploration (across all three women’s respective stories) of what true love looks like – and what it doesn’t – really struck me.
“Love – true love – required humility and sacrifice… Romance ebbed and flowed like the waves outside the lighthouse, and yet love for another carried through the storm.”
We don’t know much about Rebecca when we first meet her, just that she was running for her life from a mysterious ‘they’ who were hunting her … and she wakes up at the base of Annabel’s tombstone with no memories of who she is or how she got there. I loved all the mysteriousness in this timeline, and oh how I loved Abel, the assistant lighthouse keeper who knows more than he’s telling. In the present day, Shea stays at the lighthouse with the intent of researching Annabel’s story for her new nonfiction book about the alleged haunting. I really enjoyed all the layers in this timeline – from Shea’s lost-its-shine marriage to the more recent death connected to the lighthouse, the fun nods to Wright’s first book, and all the quirky characters Shea encounters in her search for the truth. Not to mention that her husband Pete ended up surprising me by totally winning my heart before all was said and done.
And…I know I say something similar every time I review a Jaime Jo Wright book but I honestly had no idea how she was going to pull off her usual ‘staying true to Scripture and Scooby Doo’ smoke-and-mirrors brilliance with Annabel. At one point I just decided to settle in and enjoy the story on its face, accepting that Annabel really is a ghost because I couldn’t come up with any other explanation. Ah… but Jaime Jo Wright isn’t only a master of the macabre-filled-with-hope – she’s also AMAZING (like… in a class by herself) at creating eerie characters who seem paranormal but always have a logical explanation. Even if I can’t figure it out until she tells me, and then I always have to sit for a moment and appreciate her fantastic talent at consistently writing truly engrossing stories.
Bottom Line: Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse by Jaime Jo Wright captivated me from its haunting beginning to its stunning end. The characters (including the lighthouse and the lake themselves), the legend, the search for answers in both timelines… all of it kept me fully absorbed in the story, ignoring everything else to read ‘one more chapter’ until it was 3 in the morning and oops I finished the whole thing. There’s a reason that, at a certain point in all of Wright’s books (this latest one included), I have an overwhelming urge to give her stellar storycrafting a round of applause. And, let me tell you, I was holding my breath all the way to the very end of this one, waiting for another shoe to drop… and WHEW. If you love being scared a little, being entertained a lot, and being pointed to Jesus and His grace, then you absolutely need to get a copy of Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse and lose (or maybe find) yourself in this fantastic read!

Jaime Jo Wright has written another winner! All of her books have a dark, gothic feel, but everything is logically explained in the end. I enjoyed this novel and will continue to look out for her future books!
Tempest at Annabel's Lighthouse is a dual time-line novel with half the story in 1874 and half the story in the present day. In the past, Rebecca arrives at the lighthouse with no memory of who she is or how she got there. She is taken in by the lighthouse keepers and given time to heal and regain her memory. But as Rebecca's memories return, she may wish they didn't. Some things are better off forgotten.
In modern day, Shea is bored with her life and husband. In a search for purpose, she decides to travel to a famed lighthouse to research the infamous Annabel and a missing woman case. Strange things begin to happen around Shea that become increasingly deadly. As mists and ghosts swirl around her, can she solve the mystery of Annnabel's Lighthouse?
I thought the book was excellent! Gothic novels are not usually my thing. However, this book has just the right amount of suspense to tingle my toes, but not gory or graphic. I did not guess the ending of who is responsible for the death and mayhem. I recommend anyone over 17 to read this book!

Jaime Jo Wright NEVER disappoints! I loved this haunting, twisted tale of greed, complacency, and the power of love.
Using Edgar Allan Poe’s “Annabel Lee” as a catalyst, Wright crafts a dual-timeline novel—set in 1874 and the present day—centered around a mysterious, northern Michigan lighthouse. Her atmospheric writing draws readers in from the very first page, setting the tone for a story that’s both chilling and hopeful, with mellow undertones of intrigue and suspense.
Though the faith thread is almost non-existent compared to some of her other books, the authentic characters evoke deep emotion and charisma. I was especially drawn to the compelling, historical timeline. The present-day story is full of angst and tension, adding a fresh layer of suspense that kept me turning the pages. And, when the ending delivered a punch I never saw coming, I closed the book feeling the weight of a broken world—but also the beauty of redemption and the transformational power of love.
Overall, this novel is subtle yet powerful, with masterful storytelling on every page. I 100% recommend it—a standout read that crosses beautifully into both Christian and mainstream fiction.
CW and TW: PG13. Abuse on page (light descriptors), murder

4.5 ⭐️
Jaime’s writing and Edgar Allen Poe’s poetry are two of my favorite things, so this book was meant for me. The mysterious Annabel is inspired by Annabel Lee, and I absolutely love that Jaime used lines from the poem in her chapter headings! 🤩
One of my favorite things about Jaime’s books is that they have me questioning everything. I don’t believe in ghosts, but Jaime always has me feeling like I do for the first 200 pages. 🤣
I loved the lighthouse setting, and it was perfectly paired with a town full of people who believe in a vengeful ghost of a woman who died in the 1950s. The story plays out in 1874 and present day, and I was especially drawn to the past timeline.
The present day timeline had one of my favorite tropes - marriage in trouble! I liked how Jaime explored themes like selfless love and trust, and I love that there’s always a thread of romance in her mysteries.
I thought the story played out well and I didn’t guess the conclusion! There’s a lot of mystery, some suspense, and so many secrets. I highly recommend this (and all of Jaime’s backlist) to gothic mystery fans!
Thank you to Bethany House for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

My Quick Takes:
- 4.5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
- Language 🤐 none

- Content 🤔 struggling marriage, murder, abuse, past child abuse
Jaime Jo Wright weaves a tale filled with lore and legend threading through to modern day. Set in a small town that won’t give up its secrets (in the past or present) the reader is left guessing as the strings slowly unravel.
I really enjoyed the dual timeline of modern day and past 1800’s mining town. The treasure hunting boom was a fun aspect of the story. I always appreciate a redemption arc and love that Wright’s novels continue to carry that theme, along with very light faith themes.
While I’m not familiar with Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee” I liked the added quotes and inspiration Wright drew from the poem and included throughout the narrative.

I received Tempest at Annabel's Lighthouse free from the publisher via LibraryThing and NetGalley. The following is my honest review.
Jaime Jo Wright did it again! She quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. The book captured my interest from the get-go. It's the perfect blend of creepy, mysterious, and historically interesting. Lake Superior, one of my favorite places on earth, was the perfect setting for the moody tale. The characters were deep and well-rounded and the story kept me guessing until nearly the end. I highly recommend.

Jaime Jo Wright has perfected her craft and her craft is historical mysteries with dual timelines. To be honest, I don't think anyone can execute a dual timeline as well as this author, and she is a master at weaving the past and present.
Another part of her signature style that I keep coming back to is is the way they give me the chills, they can be so creepy.
In Tempest At Annabelle's Lighthouse, we having everything we love about her books: a dual timeline, historical suspense and a bone chilling atmosphere.

Tempest at Annabel's Lighthouse is a dual timeline mystery story by Jaime Jo Wright. There is always a ghostly like supernatural essence in her stories but in the end you see it it not really and that there is a logical explanation. In the modern timeline we have Shea going to the upper Michigan area to research the ghost of Annabel who lived in the 1800s and died in a boating accident. The second timeline is in the 1800s, the character is Rebecca and is 20 years past when Anabel died. Both timelines were enjoyable to read but I enjoyed Rebecca's story more. Rebecca has lost her memory so it was intriguing to discover her story as to why she lost her memory.
Thanks to the LibraryThing Early Readers program and Netgalley for providing me a digital copy of this book to read and enjoy.

Jaime Jo Wright has done it again! No matter what, I know I can count on Wright to deliver a spooky and spectacular tale. This novel was no different. The main character, a writer on a research mission, is staying in a haunted lighthouse--and she brought with her a whole lot of baggage.
Not only did the story have a spooky secondary plot, but it also had a romance thread. This was not like any other romance I've read before. The couple, Shea and Pete, were on the outs. Their marriage was not what either of them expected, and I was surprised to have this kind of representation in a novel. I can't think of another book where the married couple was on the outs and came back together so well (other than another story written by Wright). It was wonderful to see in a novel, and I would've liked to have even more of the couple in the story.
Overall, this was another marvelous book by Wright, and I will be coming back for more!

Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse, a stupendous gothic ghost-murder mystery by Jaime Jo Wright, with a mind-blowing ending, will keep you totally captivated from beginning to end!
Set on the shore of Lake Superior, Wright pens a unique duel-timeline lighthouse story, written from the viewpoint of an author doing research for a new book. Loved her nod to her first book, The House on Foster Hill, making this story even more realistic. Having a slower build than other books by Wright adds to the suspense, while storms, thrashing waves, and ghost sightings add to the creepiness she is known for. Secrets and some very unexpected twists and turns in both timelines kept me reading long into the night.
Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse, based on legend and lore, is a chilling story that readers who love mysteries will not want to miss. I am looking forward to reading what this amazing author writes next.

Jaime Jo Wright brings another creepy story surrounding a lighthouse ghost in the U.P. As the main character digs into the story, she finds out there's a lot more than meets the eye. She also finds out there's a lot more to her personal life, her marriage, than she first thought, too.
This is a story about love and the way it can shape us. The way we need to allow it to be a self serving love or a sacrificing love. Great job to the author for crafting a beautiful tale inspired by Annabel Lee.

I always look forward to another Jaime Jo Wright book! This one had me feeling very uncomfortable at first, our modern day main character does and thinks some things at the beginning that were some major red flags but I'm thankful that she had some major growth through the novel. Surprisingly for me, I predicted most of what happened throughout the book so I ended up not enjoying it as much as I've enjoyed most of her previous books.

The Tempest in Annabel’s Lighthouse by Jaime Jo Wright is a gripping dual-time gothic mystery that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the wee hours of the morning.
Set in a lighthouse on Lake Superior in 1874, we meet a badly beaten Rebecca who is found by Edgar, an elderly lighthouse keeper. Rebecca has no memory of who had attacked her and why. Edgar takes her to the lighthouse for her protection.
It isn’t long before Rebecca hears the stories of Annabel, the ghost who haunts the lighthouse. And from what Rebecca can tell, she isn’t too friendly.
In the present day, we meet Shea, a writer. She wants to write a story about the lore and legend of Annabel but also take some time to reevaluate her marriage to her husband Pete. As Shea digs into the area's history and Annabel, she soon finds that someone in the community is unhappy about her digging into the past.
The author excels at “creepy” and while the story is about Annabel, who haunts the lighthouse, it is the character of Rebecca in 1874, that pushes the story forward. Her sweet, innocent nature combined with her lack of memory and the trauma she endured was a puzzle that kept me reading. I should mention that this book has some violence, so if you have suffered abuse, it might be a trigger for you.
Unfortunately, Shea was the one aspect of this novel that had me rolling my eyes. Her completely selfish attitude toward her husband and his obvious attempts to be there for her made me dislike her character immediately. However, she was relentless in digging up dirt surrounding the lighthouse and she also helped push events forward.
While I thought I had everything figured out in the story, I was delighted to find out how wrong I was! The last page absolutely stunned me and if you are one of those people who skips to the last page to read it before you even begin the book, do yourself a favour and don’t or you will spoil the whole thing for yourself. You have been warned!
The Tempest in Annabel’s Lighthouse is an engrossing dual-time gothic ghost tale filled with heartache, love, and self-discovery. I highly recommend it.

“What are memories if they are only to be lost, and what is the lost unless it has potential to once again be found?"
It's another stunning novel from Jaime Jo Wright. Set along the coast of Upper Peninsula of Michigan, this intriguing ghost-murder mystery will grab you from the very beginning. To be inside a lighthouse on the shore of Lake Superior is quite a treat. It's not as eerie as the author's books can be but the fascinating pull of lore and legend of ghosts and cold cases that has become the author's signature is still brilliant. I loved traveling between Rebecca's story in 1874 and Shea's story in the present time. The plot is complex with lots of twists and turns and I really enjoyed putting the pieces together with Shae and Pete.
Rebecca's story was more like watching a movie and trying to figure out what was happening to the poor girl with amnesia. Shae's story was more relatable and touchable with her career ambitions and deteriorating marriage. Romance was subtle in the story, as Shae and Pete had fallen away from romance. But they discover the true meaning of love through their harrowing journey - love that is sacrificial, constant, and steadfast.
If you enjoy dual time mystery, you will absolutely love this book. Jaime Jo Wright never disappoints.

Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse is another book by Jaime Jo Wright. This one doesn’t have the degree of creepiness some of the other books have but it’s just as good. This one has a slower build up than her previous books.
The locals keep the ghostly legend alive of the haunted lighthouse.
Taking place in two time periods this time slip takes place on the southern shores of Lake Superior.
The setting of the wild storms and crashing waves against the shores sets the book up for the perfect haunting story. Lighthouses are fascinating with many things both good and bad connected with them, ships coming in and rescues.
There are many secrets in both time periods and some unexpected family drama. When the story got going there were some very unexpected twists and turns that kept me reading late into the night, as it always is with the author’s books.
I love a lighthouse story, and this one kept my attention. I excitedly look forward to whatever the author will have out next.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bethany House, and Jaime Jo Wright for this #gifted book!*

Title: Tempest at Annabel’s Lighthouse
Author: Jaime Jo Wright
Genre: Mystery/Suspense
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Synopsis: Just outside the quiet town of Silvertown, Michigan, Annabel’s lighthouse has become something of legend and lore. Some would even venture to say it’s haunted. As a nonfiction author, Shea is intrigued by the mystery and history surrounding the lighthouse. She books a trip to the supposedly haunted location in the name of research and escaping what feels like a failing marriage. The history she begins to uncover reveals that Annabel’s ghost has a story to tell. Perhaps love isn’t always what it seems. Can Shea fill in the gaps of Annabel’s past, find peace in her present, and foresee hope in her future?
Analysis: Jaime Jo Wright brings the perfect Agatha Christie type mystery in this dual timeline suspense novel. She really has mastered creepy without being horror, and I absolutely loved it! The setting here of the lighthouse is different than you probably think of lighthouses and provides the perfect setting for a mystery of love and loss. The plot will have you flying through the pages and rushing to find whodunnit in the end. And the characters will grip your heart as they look at the deeper questions of who they are and what love really is. Perhaps the thing I love most about Jaime’s books is that they end with the light shining bright. Just like the lighthouse in this story, Jaime shines brilliantly with the hope and love we can find in truth even in the darkness.

Wow! Wow! This is her best story yet!
I loved this story so much that I was sad when it ended.
Definitely Jaime Jo Wright style for sure!
I normally don't leave a quote but I will for this book because it spoke loud and clear for me. Appreciate and love those around you. Tomorrow isn't promised.
“The fact is, when you let yourself get in the way, you cheat not only yourself but those around you of the chance to love you.”
Lots of great stuff going on here that keeps your attention all the way through.
This story will have you in all kinds of emotions. It sure did me!
I didn't know what to say about Rebecca's father. What a horrible man!! I didn't like him or his cronies from the get go.
What a great family history too! I loved how it all ties together.
At first I was confused but as I read on it became clearer.
Mystery, family secrets, and redemption. Amazing and quite an adventure too.
A story that will keep you thinking about it long after it's over.
My favorite thing about the story was the lighthouse! I love stories that center around lighthouses.
Wright did a wonderful job in keeping me guessing who all was behind the goings on. I was definitely surprised! In fact, I was floored. Wow!
5 stars for drawing me in immediately.
Annabel still isn't letting me go.
I will buy this one when it becomes available.
I highly recommend.
