The pace was fairly fast, and had an easy flow so you can easily whizz through the book, which I always enjoy because I love books that pick up right off the bat when I begin reading them. Also ghosts and the supernatural are always a plus.

I quite enjoyed The premise of the book, as well as the plot and supernatural background! It keeps you engaged and entertained the whole way through, there's so much going on, there is quite a bit of action and adventure, and with all the mythological creatures (which I definitely love, and love reading about) Not to mention the little bit of darkness that was present in the story adding an interesting dynamic! You don't really get that in most YA books since authors would shy away from telling dark stories - especially in 2014. Now dark and sadistic YA books are everywhere. So good for Wheaton jumping on the band wagon before it existed.

The main character, I'm fairly torn with the main character, Kacie. Normally I love the snarky badass leading ladies, they are my favourite and they're a huge factor in what makes me love the book. Kacie was kind of a pansy sometimes, with the crying over all scary things. If you are going to write a bad-ass character, you need to follow through with such notions. I don't like it when authors say a character is all that but then their actions show the exact opposite. Also I am never a fan of a whiny character, lol I whine enough for the both of us so I don't need it in my books.

Once again the insta-love. This trope has been along way too long. If insta-love started in 2005 with Twilight, then by 2014 we should be done with it. However, it's 2021 and we still have not gotten rid of the dreaded trope. Kacie and Logan might as well be making out the moment they meet, it's a total cliche of perfect broody boy meets meek but badass female. It felt like a romance I have read a thousand times over. So I definitely skimmed those pages.

All in all this was a fairly decent book and I enjoyed the supernatural side of things. I think the world-building could use a bit more but that might show up in the second book!

Read the first couple chapters of the book, but it did not hold my attention. Did not finish reading it.

Really liked this one! The romance was cute, and the cover is beautiful. The writing was well paced and the mystery was gripping.
