This novel is a very romantic romance, which sounds redundant yet really isn’t. Rather it depicts the courting little girls dream about with picnics, lying under the stars, long walks, chivalry, and the all-important kind to animals and small children. Prince Lorenzo just might have Mr Darcy beat as the most swoon-worthy hero in literature.
I loved the growth of Lorenzo. Straight laced —straight jacket, really— to warm, caring, and approachable. However, Indigo did not get her chance to become her better self. The fact she is stubborn and independent remains right up until the last chapter, though I would have liked a few more chapters added to the book so as to not only give Indigo a chance to grow but allow the secondary characters to have more than mere cameos.
Nothing is perfect, not even fairy tale romances, but this novel is pretty close. I have always had a soft spot for these types of stories and this one takes you through smiles and swooning to sighs and sadness, then back again. It is cute and it is quick and you can always expect something great from Kate.
