The cover of this book is gorgeous and the premise was interesting, but ultimately, the story just fell flat. The plot just seemed underdeveloped and the writing was a bit juvenile. The characters were also not very well developed and just lacked believability.

Man, I'm so disappointed in this. I thought the concept sounded really intriguing - two warring Orders, ancient History and myth melding with current-day events, ghosts and demons etc. are usually my jam. But honestly, this book fell short on so many levels and I ended up reading on in disbelief more than anything.
So first - the writing was pretty poor. Everything felt over-explained, stilted and unnatural. I could not in any way relate to what I was reading on the page. It felt like I was reading the script to a children's film at time. Dialogue felt too emotional all the time - there was no subtlety to it. The plot as well jumped around all over the show and nothing all that surprising happened either. I also had real issues with the one-dimensional characters that didn't really have personalities, more just emotional reactions. It made it impossible to root for/care for any of them. I wish I could say I found any real redeeming factors here other than the concept, but I found it poorly executed, sadly.
