There will be many people who will never want to pick up a copy of Tamas, but I am so thrilled that Penguin gave me the chance to read it in it's new translation because it was so many of my favorite things.

First, and foremost, if you get the chance to read a Daisy Rockwell translation, absolutely do. She has crafted some of the most glorious English translations of Indian novels. Secondly, if you are willing to slog through some incredibly difficult passages, pick up a book about the partition. In the same way that my perspective has been changed by the works of Douglas Stewart regarding Margaret Thatcher's UK, novels about the Partition have forever shaped and changed my understanding of modern history. Tamas is an excellent addition to that canon and this new translation is brilliantly done.

There was a glitch with this book title. I could not upload, or read a copy of this book through NetGalley. So, I cannot review it.
