Continuing DCI Erica Sands story, the focus initially is on a newspaper reporter who has the story of his life, coordinating with numerous countries to sift through the enormous amount of information they’ve received. Meanwhile Erica is even more obsessed with finding her father Charles Sterling, mass murderer who is on the run again.

While this is a decent enough read, I found myself getting more and more frustrated with Erica, her obsession completely taking her over, forcing her bosses to make demands of her, which she isn’t prepared to comply with. Her character does a disservice to all women in top jobs, although you can understand that she needs closure where her father is concerned. My least favourite of this series so far, with an ending that means I need to spread the next book.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A continuance of Detective Erica Sands's adventures, The Hunt (2025) by Gregg Dunnett is a pseudo-police procedural series. Infamous serial killer Charles Sterling has vanished after escaping from his maximum-security prison and the trail has gone cold. Yet his daughter, Detective Erica Sands still feels his presence, and is convinced he is still alive. The narrative is split into four sections, opening and closing with Erica’s story. The second section seems odd, given it concerns an international banker and the third is Charles Sterling focused. They do gel together in a cliffhanger climax that, unfortunately, leaves the reader requiring the next book to know its outcome. A tale predominantly focused on Erica and her serial killer father, it's more a family thriller and a ho-hum two and a half star rating. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own, freely given and without any inducement. With thanks to Storm Publishing and the author, for an uncorrected advanced review copy for review purposes.

This book passed the time just fine, but was my least favorite of the three so far. I prefer when Sands is in most of the book. Still invested and looking forward to the next one! Thanks to Netgalley for the free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review, book publishes February 21.

Wow! Just wow! A gripping story full of twists. I'm loving this series. The characters are so complex. There are plenty of twists and the suspense is through the roof. And that ending!

DCI Erica Sands is trying to determine if her father, serial killer Charles Sterling, who escaped from prison with the help of a guard, is involved in the murder of a journalist who was putting together an expose on a huge financial fraud that would include a passing reference to her father.
She goes on a personal leave to fly to the small village on the coast to try to track down more info.
The story was compelling and suspenseful but just a little too pat in places, for me.
However, it was still a good read for me until the end.
It quickly went from 4 to 3 ⭐⭐⭐

3* Half-decent tale spoiled by a woman cop who gives women in position of power a bad name and rep.

It was easy to get into this book despite my not having read any others. I didn't like the female character at all - the title of my review suffices as explanation. She was brash, arrogant, rude, in need of DEI training (maybe they could ship her to 2025 USA? Sounded like she'd be at home there). Not liking her didn't quite manage to spoil that she's got good cop instincts and a nose for the truth, however farfetched it was.

Was I sorry for her predicament at the end? No, because of how unpleasant she'd been. Would I read another? Yes, because she'll get out of this situation and for the life of me, I can't fathom how.

This is the third book in this series about DCI Erica Sands, she looking for her father who committed murder and escaped from prison. Before he went into hiding he killed another person.
I liked the plot, but to get a better understanding of the story I think you need to read the first two books. Erica is a great detective, but is so focused on finding her father she can’t do her job. The story is in three parts and each tell what’s been going on. It’s a good crime read. 3.5 stars Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

Rounded up to 3.25
This is the third book in the DI Erica Sands series. In the latest installment, Erica's serial killer father Charles Sterling has escaped from prison. Erica is determined to hunt him down. This story unfolds in 4 parts, and ends on a cliffhanger. There is a lot happening here.
The first part deals with Erica hyper focused on hunting down her father. She decides to go to Brazil to find Barney Atkinson- the guard at the prison who helped her father escape. While there she meets lawyer Damien Reynolds. He tells Erica that a man named Jeremy Collins has passed away. Jeremy lived in Vietnam. But the man that died is really her father, Charles Sterling. There is so much evidence that she is given to prove that it is indeed her father, but Erica does not believe this. And.. her father has supposedly left her a big inheritance.
Then the story moves to reporter Pierre Cloarec (from Paris). He is looking into a big story about tax evasion, but for safety reasons he is moved to another town where he can hide. While there he meets an american named Richard Brown. Pierre becomes somewhat suspicious of Brown.
Then the story segues to Charles Sterling. His past, his escape and all about him.
Then we return to Erica. She quits her job so that she can go hunt down her father who she refuses to believe is dead.

The main characters from each section converge together to put pieces together.
So.... are you still with me????

This was A LOT!!! There were several characters and plots. I felt I needed a story board to keep track of it all. The pacing was a bit erratic, starting off with a quick pace, then really, really slowed down. It started to pick back up towards the end, just to have a cliffhanger.
I feel that the character of Erica is brash and caustic- much like she was in the first novel. This made it hard for me to connect to her, and I became irritated with her many times.
I do feel that the author connected all the characters/events together well in the end. The ending, although a cliffhanger, was well done and sets the plot for the next installment. I will have to read it to know how this saga ends!

Overall it was an ok read, but gets a bit convoluted in places. I think you would need to read the series from the beginning to really understand Erica.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This series just keeps getting better and better and I can not wait until the next instalment, DCI Inspector Erica Sands has been searching for her father, Charles Sterling, a serial killer & mastermind who absconded from prison with a massive fortune in bitcoin, but when Erica is told her dad has died she will not believe it and sets out to find him even though everyone else thinks it’s true, but one thing about Erica is she does not give up until she gets her answers.

I very much enjoyed this book! It reminded me of shows I enjoy like Slow Horses and Broadchurch. Erica Sands is a detective with an estranged father who happens to be serial killer and master con artist locked up in a maximum security prison. One day she receives a letter indicating that he is dead, and knowing what a master of deception he is, she has every reason to distrust this news. What unfolds after that is quite a suspenseful and action packed with twists that kept me wanting more. This book had everything I didn't know I enjoyed all in one. I look forward to seeing more from this author!

This is such a fantastic series! I loved how we follow DCI Inspector Erica Sands as she searches for her father, Charles Sterling. He is presumed dead but Erica refuses to accept this. She is hunting for the truth. This book does end on a cliffhanger. Fantastic book 3. Thank you NetGalley for my advance reader copy.

I love how this story is written in parts and how it all comes together in the end. I enjoyed the characters and the settings and found the story easy to follow despite not having read the first two books of the series.

Quite fast paced and incredibly suspenseful, especially nearing the end.  Phew!

Holy cliffhanger Batman...

The Hunt is book 3 in the Erica Sands series. The two prior I have not read before this, and for me, i really needed to have read them as a series. I really struggled to connect with the main character, Erica. I found her very unlikable. Maybe you see more of a reason for how she is in the other books. I found myself not invested enough in her.
The plot is intriguing, and it kept my interest. It has suspense, tension and twists. I did guess how parts of it was going to play out, but it didnt spoil it. Told in separate parts that then come together at the end. I did find that the second part slowed the pace down from the first one, but then it picked back up in the third part. It ends on a cliffhanger, obviously leaving the outcome for the next book. I didn't mind it. For those who have read all the series, I think it would have been a satisfying ending .

Thank you Storm Publishing for my advanced copy.

The Hunt is an engaging story, divided into four parts. Each portion adds another piece to the puzzle until you reach that aha moment. Good writing, but I was a bit disappointed in the end.

I enjoyed this third book in the series. It was intriguing and had a lot of twists. It can be read as a standalone but the other 2 are great as well. I liked that it's fast paced. Highly recommend.
Thank you #NetGalley for this #ARC

Another great read in the Erica Sands series. Detective Erica is on an extended mission to catch her serial killer father who comes up with some fantastical ways to escape her and capture. Death not excluded. Reality and belief need to be suspended somewhat whilst reading this series however it is always a fun read with twists a plenty. My only gripe is the lack of ending. The book finishes on a cliffhanger. No doubt in preparation for the next book. This is fine if you're following the series as I am but not for the casual reader. Not a ploy I'm a fan of I'm afraid hence the 3* review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy. All opinions are my own.

I’m sorry, but it doesn’t matter how good the book is, I hate a cliffhanger at the end. I was enjoying this read until then. In my opinion it’s a blatant attempt to get sales for the next book.
