I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Navigating Your Child's Unique Mental and Physical Needs is a well put together blueprint guide for anyone seeking help or guidance to access support for the mental and physical needs of their child.
Using easy to understand language use and terms this book was very easy to follow and understand and is a great guide to understand and get the most valuable advice on how to maximise the use and availability of special educational services.
The book offers many tools and information for parents to help support their advocacy of their child to get the best care and support and to help them achieve their full potentials too.
Topics included are:
• The current state of mental health, behavioral health, and learning disabilities in our youth
• Potential indicators of disorders or conditions that qualify for treatment plans
• Steps to take if you suspect that your child has a disability or condition
• Professional organizations and supports that you can reach out to for support
• Information on the various types of evaluations and treatment plans available, as well as how to determine which best match your child’s needs
• Preparing for, advocating during, and following up after treatment meetings
• How to develop and maintain an effective treatment plan
• Building a strong partnership with your child’s school and treatment team
• Steps to take if your child’s needs are not being met
• Acknowledging, accepting, and embracing your child’s needs
• How to strengthen family interactions and resilience
• Tending to your needs and personal well-being as the parent of a child who has individualized needs.
The appendix included in the book is very useful and helpful to understand certain commonly used terms that the reader may not be familiar with.

This was hugely informative and sensitive. I felt I learned so much, in such a concise form, on a topic which is often so fragmented and directed to professionals with no care towards family feelings/needs/understandings. It also was appropriately child centred, which was nice to read!

This book is compact. It offers a wide range of information and advice for families with children who have unique needs. I like that phrase more than additional or special needs.

The context is US-focused, however many parts apply to the overall parenting experiences and some to the UK.
The parts on adopting to the child’s needs were the best ones in my experience.

A great introduction to unique needs and is quite detailed.
