I enjoyed this book. I thought it was a very good read. It takes place on Halloween night and brings you through dark twists and turns. Although it’s a slow burn it the end keeps you gripped. Through ghost stories, murders and investigations. This plot keeps you on your toes.

Hannah Richell's One Dark Night is a gripping psychological thriller that intertwines a chilling urban legend with the deeply personal stories of its characters. From the very first page, Richell hooks the reader with a haunting tale about Sally in the Wood, a mysterious figure who has long been the subject of whispered stories. The legend sets the tone for a novel full of tension, suspense, and an eerie atmosphere that never lets up.
Richell does an excellent job of balancing suspense with character development. As the investigation progresses, the novel delves into the complexities of family dynamics and the secrets that bind people together, even when they’re drifting apart.
Ultimately, One Dark Night is a captivating blend of suspense, mystery, and psychological drama. It explores themes of motherhood, the impact of past trauma, and the weight of secrets, all while keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. With its complex characters, eerie setting, and gripping plot, this is a book that stays with you long after you've turned the last page. If you're a fan of dark, atmospheric thrillers with deeply human emotional stakes, this novel is an absolute must-read.

WOW!!! This thriller is a wild ride. The author really got me with the ending. I didn't see the ending coming at all. I loved all the POVs I read from during this book and the spooky Halloween/woodsy vibes.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC!

I could not get enough of this story. I was engaged the entire time. Give me another high school
Halloween party gone wrong in the woods but it will be hard to beat this one!!

I have never read a book by this author but let me just say it was well worth it! I enjoyed the book and it had a good storyline! A pretty good twist at the end! Will be recommending this one to my book club!

Hannah Richell’s One Dark Night is a gripping and atmospheric thriller that weaves together family drama, secrets, and suspense in a beautifully written narrative. The story unfolds over the course of one fateful evening, pulling readers into a tense and emotionally charged journey.
This book was full of twists! Just when I thought I had everything figured out—bam!—I was completely taken by surprise. Richell does an excellent job of building tension and creating an eerie atmosphere that keeps you on edge. The alternating timelines and multiple perspectives added depth, making the mystery even more compelling.
While the pacing was strong for the most part, there were a few moments where the story slowed down a bit, and I wished for more intensity in certain areas. However, the character development and emotional depth more than made up for it. If you love thrillers that keep you guessing until the very end, One Dark Night is definitely worth a read!
Overall, One Dark Night is a captivating read that will keep you turning the pages. If you enjoy slow-burning thrillers with rich storytelling and complex characters, this one is definitely worth picking up!
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books Publicity Department for providing me with this ARC. I will definitely be reading more books from Hannah Ritchell!!

On Halloween night a group of students go out into the woods to have a party, where it’s said to be haunted by a woman who was brutally murdered known to locals as Sally in the Wood. The following day, one of the students from the party is discovered murdered at the site of the party. Over the next few days, police scramble to unravel who was there and what happened to Sarah.
Initially, One Dark Night comes across as your typical mystery - party in the haunted woods, girl found dead, race to find the killer - but what sets it apart are the different points of view the story is told through. You have Ben, the police officer & father to one of the students that was in the woods; Rachel, the school counselor & mother of the same student; and, Ellie, Ben & Rachel’s daughter. You get to see how each plays a pivotal role in the investigation and how they handle everything both individually and as a family, albeit a divorced one. The story undoubtedly has its twists and turns and the ending is one that makes you almost want to go back through and reread everything to see if you missed something that could’ve helped you figure it out.
Overall a great rid with the right amount of spookiness for Halloween time.
**Thank you NetGalley & Atria Books for providing me with an ARC for my honest review**

Amazing, definitely kept my attention throughout the whole book.if you are on the fence with this book I highly recommend it.

This was a fairly quick thriller read and I enjoyed the twists and turns. The imagery painted of the landscape helped draw me in. The cast of characters was fairly dense, but that did keep me guessing who might be the suspect at the end. Lo and behold I did not guess the twist which is always a plus. If anything the book is a little rushed, but overall I enjoyed the writing and story.
Happy to have had this be my first book preview from NetGalley!

This book was amazing! I enjoyed it! It took me awhile to finish just cause I started it in the middle of the holidays and the holidays took up a lot of my time. I thought I figured out the ending but then the ending got me…once the theory I had came up more things started to unfold and it threw me for a loop! This was a good read and definitely had spooky vibes! Thank you #netgalley #hannahrichell #simon&schuster for the opportunity to advance read this thriller!!!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC copy of One Darknight! It was a great thriller with lots of twist and turns. I just personally don’t enjoy 3rd person.

This was my first book by this author. I liked it.
It was an interesting read.

When a body is found the day after Halloween, a small British community must reckon with its past and the dangers lurking. The premise of this book sounded interesting and I had read one previous book by this author so I was intrigued. The story had some spooky elements, However, I was a little bummed that the ghost story didn't have more to do with the plot than being an eerie setting for the story. I thought there would be a few more parallels between the ghost story and the one we were following but that wasn't the case. I did find that I originally had my own ideas about who had done it and why and was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. I thought the final twist was good. Overall, I enjoyed it but I did struggle to get into the story at first. It really picked up speed at the end.

I loved this book!! It had me guessing to the very end and at one point I thought I had guessed it right? Wrong!! These are the best kind of books!! It reminded me of Freida McFadden. Who is another one of my favorite authors!! A big thank you to NetGalley and for the publishers for letting me read this book early!! There were so many things I loved in this book!! The anticipation, excitement, nervousness, feelings that I got while reading this were all worth it!! Cant wait to check out more books like this from the author in the future!! It was a very fun creepy read. I only wish that I had read it for Halloween or sometime sooner. One Dark Night is definitely a book I won’t forget reading.

I love Halloween murder mysteries it’s always fun and full of atmospheric vibes. The party aspect was fun as well I loved how it was the catalyst to the murder. It was giving Agatha Christie vibes

One Dark Night by Hannah Richell is an engaging, twisty thriller that kept me guessing until the end. Big thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for the advance e-copy! Mark your calendar for August 19!
On Halloween night, a group of teens gather in the woods near a road rumored to be haunted. By morning, one of them is dead. What follows is a layered mystery told from multiple perspectives—Rachel, a school counselor struggling to connect with her teenage daughter; Ben, her ex-husband and the detective investigating the case; and Ellie, their daughter, who is keeping some big secrets.
This book delivers plenty of red herrings and shifting suspicions, making it a fun, fast-paced read. I loved how the story balanced urban legend vibes with real-world tensions like privilege, parenting, and past mistakes catching up. Some twists were stronger than others, but overall, it kept me hooked. If you enjoy multi-POV thrillers with a steady build of suspense, this one is worth picking up!

This book was great! Lots of twists throughout that I didn’t see coming. Has many POVs, but it was pretty easy to keep track of everything. Towards the end I predicted part of the ending, but there were parts I never saw coming.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for this advanced reader copy!
I am newer into mystery/horror, but I have to say I always know who did it. I’m either very good, or highly suspicious of everyone. Likely the latter.
With that said, I didn’t see this twist! It was an entertaining ride from beginning to end.
I will say the book was written in third person and in present tense, which I don’t think I have ever read before? I have read third person, past tense or first person, present tense, but never third person, present tense. It was a little different for me at first, but it did not impede the story.
To sum it all up, the story was very entertaining and I enjoyed that I didn’t guess the ending. I will definitely check out more of Hannah Richell’s books in the future.

On Halloween night, a group of teens gather in the woods near a road infamous for its ghostly legend. By the end of the night, one of them is dead. (sounded promising and creepy but was very mild)
Rachel, a school guidance counselor, struggles to connect with her teen daughter, Ellie, as the town tries to understand the tragedy that just occured. Her ex-husband, is a detective investigating the case and he is not sure Ellie is telling the truth and well yeah, she harbors secrets from both her parents...
Told from multiple perspectives, the narrative doesn’t fully commit to any one voice, making the characters feel somewhat forgettable. At times, the story drags without adding much depth, but the twist is well-executed and neatly resolved. The writing is straightforward and easy to follow, making it a quick, one-sitting read.
I feel like they could have delved deeper and darker into the infamous ghost legend—it had the potential to be much creepier and add more layers to the story. But alas, the book did not. Overall, it’s a decent read—good, but not great.

Thank you, NetGalley and Atria books for a DRC of this book.
This book was well written. I sometimes have a hard time when authors switch perspectives every chapter because if written improperly, it appears abruptly, confusing, and disconnected. However, the author wrote the transitions wonderfully and kept me on. Track with the story.
I was also surprised by this book because it is a slow burn, but I still was invested in the story. I usually have to push myself to continue to read these kinds of books, but I flew this book. There are enough gripping scenes in this book to keep you turning pages.
While reading, I was thinking about giving a lower rating because I thought the book was predictable. I thought I knew what was happening until the end when I was thrown for a loop. I was pleasantly surprised I hadn't guessed the plot.
My only complaint is the ending. There was so much building on the family relationship dynamic, and the ending left resolved to the imagination of the reader. I get why the author left that portion hanging, I was just a little disappointed because so much was described throughout the book about the broken relationships between the main characters and felt like I needed more resolve at the end. However, like I said, I can see why she left it open for interpretation, and I still really enjoyed the book.
