When Ella goes to work on Monday morning, she finds the cafe she was running all boarded up, the furniture gone and the locks changed.

When she calls her suppliers, she discovers that someone pretending to be her cancelled all future deliveries. Ella tries ringing her boss, Lena, to no avail. There are no answers to her messages, phone calls, or emails.

It’s almost as if Lena vanished into thin air.

Ella turns to her old friend Harriet for help.

Harriet now works as a paediatrician for the NHS and is also married to a doctor, George. Ella comes to stay with them and tries to piece together who could have possibly done this to her.

Harriet and George live in a swanky penthouse in London, overlooking the river. This was made possible thanks to an unexpected inheritance from an old neighbour, Farah.

Farah was an elderly lady who used to be a successful interior designer, and Harriet used to bring her meals, run errands for her, or pop by for a chat and a cup of tea. She had no idea that Farah was extremely well-off nor that she would leave all her money to her.

However, someone is after Harriet, too…

Enter Nisha.

Wow! What a story!

This book is about three women, all thinking they are owed something.

There is a jaw-dropping twist halfway through the book, something that I loved and didn’t expect. All women had secrets, so be prepared for back-stabbing and many lies.

I love Jackie Kabler’s books, and this one didn’t disappoint.

It’s out on 30/05/2025, so make sure to grab a copy. Many thanks to One More Chapter for approving my NetGalley request.

Ella, Harriet and Nisha, 3 women who feel they have been wronged in some way. I really enjoyed the structure of this one. It starts with Ella, who after some bad times finally thinks her life is back on track, when one day she rocks up at work to find it gone - locks changed and all the cafe equipment emptied out. The first part focuses on Ella's story - what has happened to her and what she does about it. Then we meet Harriet in part two. Ella reaches out to Harriet and things get interesting. We learn more both about Ella and Harriet. Then in part three we meet Nisha and the three women are connected. I love how we learn more as time goes on and how the women all weave together. It's twisty with some surprises along the way. Great read.

This is my first book by this author, and I can honestly say I deeply regret not having discovered her sooner.

Although I did think Ella was a great character, she’s not someone I would want as a friend. She’s quite selfish and does whatever she wants, without considering who she might be stepping on or hurting. And even when she’s confronted with the consequences of her actions, she easily brushes off her role in it and sees it more as a minor detail, a triviality. Of course, that kind of behavior doesn’t leave you with many friends or help you build new friendships.

When she then becomes the victim of a series of events, she has no idea where it’s all coming from, who’s behind it, or where it might lead. She’s truly hit rock bottom, and she sees only one person who might help her climb out of this deep hole...

To me, this was a brilliant book. At first, I was very engaged with everything Ella was going through, because I didn’t know her yet and didn’t understand what was happening. Later, everything was revealed, and although I didn’t approve of her actions, I could see how someone might be driven to revenge.

What I also found fantastic were the twists—each one seemed to bring another twist. Eventually, you no longer knew which direction things were coming from, but I never found it confusing, which is very important.

“A fox may lose its fur, but not its tricks” is, I think, a fitting conclusion for this story.

I’m absolutely a fan. This author knows how to draw you in and entertain you from start to finish with her smooth writing style and creative ideas. 5 stars.

Thank you.

The premise of The Revenge Plot had me hooked from the start, fast paced, twisty and full of promise.

I was meant to read this over a week-long readalong - but I devoured it before we were even halfway through. I just had to know how it all played out.

Jackie Kabler does suspense really well and the mystery around Ella’s life falling apart pulled me right in. Some twists I clocked early, others totally blindsided me - always a good mix!

The characters weren’t likeable but I don’t think they were meant to be - and that’s kind of the point. They felt real in a messy, flawed way, which added to the intrigue. I wasn’t necessarily rooting for anyone, but I was definitely invested in seeing how it all played out and whether they’d get what they deserved.

It held my attention from start to finish. Clever, tense and a solid domestic thriller.

When Ella Leonard arrives at work one Monday morning, she’s shocked to find the place is boarded up, everything inside gone. Then, a few days later, she gets home to find she’s been evicted from her flat, her belongings piled on the doorstep. Who is doing this to her.....and why? And how much worse can it get? The answer? A lot worse. This is just the beginning…

My head is still spinning. This was good, but the plot did get over-complicated towards the end, in my opinion. Also, normally I refuse to read books that have no likeable main characters in them, but I made an exception with this one. The story is told in the alternating viewpoint of three different women: Ella, Harriet, and Nisha. As Ella tries to figure out who could possibly have it out for her, she turns to a former roommate to ask for a place to stay while she looks for a new job and saves up enough for a new place to live. Harriet, meanwhile, is getting threatening texts from someone named Nisha who feels she wronged her, and wants Harriet to pay up. If you enjoy a good psychological thriller, then you should definitely check this out.

This was such an intense read as Ella’s life unravels, leading to mounting tension, paranoia, and unexpected twists. I was completely invested and it had me questioning why someone would go to such extremes for revenge.

I loved the sound of the premise and it started with a bang and had male gagging to find out what had happened right from the start. I wasn't aware fan of the characters but I think the author wrote them that way so that's to be expected. It was a tad predictable but I still really enjoyed the story and seeing how it played out, even when I could see where it was headed. Ots well written and I really enjoyed it overall

The Revenge Plot starts strong with an intriguing premise: Ella Leonard’s world collapses overnight when her job and home vanish without explanation. As she seeks help from an old friend, the mystery deepens, revealing layers of secrets and revenge.

The book offers some well-executed twists and a steady pace, but certain aspects — including unlikeable characters and occasionally implausible turns — may not work for every reader. While it kept me interested, it didn’t quite deliver the emotional or narrative payoff I was hoping for.

A solid, twisty thriller, but not a standout

I recently finished “The Revenge Plot” by Jackie Kabler, and I have to say, it was a thoroughly enjoyable and twisty ride from start to finish. The story kicks off with Ella arriving at her workplace one Monday morning—and finding it completely shut down, boarded up, and abandoned. That alone was chilling enough, but things only escalate when she comes home to discover she’s been evicted, with all her belongings piled on her doorstep. It’s as if someone is systematically erasing her entire life, and the suspense immediately hooks you in.
What I loved about this book is how cleverly it’s plotted. The pace is fast, and every chapter seems to introduce a new twist or red herring that keeps me guessing. The atmosphere is tense, and Kabler’s storytelling skills shine as she slowly reveals the intricate motives behind the characters’ actions. It’s one of those thrillers that makes your head spin with surprises until the bitter end.
The three women at the heart of the story—Ella, Harriet, and Nisha—are all fascinating and morally complex. Ella, a former model, is trying to navigate her shattered life; Harriet, a paediatrician, and Nisha, an estate agent, are both consumed with getting revenge for perceived wrongs. Their obsession with settling scores feels very real, and it’s interesting how their own schemes and secrets come into play. It’s a clever exploration of how people can be driven by hurt and a desire for retribution, often to their own detriment.
I appreciated how Kabler plays with the idea that revenge is not always as sweet as it seems—more often, it leads to chaos and unintended consequences. The twists kept me guessing, and I loved how the story kept me questioning what was real and who could be trusted. There’s a dark humour and sharpness to the writing that makes it a page-turner, even when the tension is high.
That said, I did find some of the language a bit intense and, at times, bordering on scary, though it fits the suspenseful tone. Also, a few characters’ motives and actions seemed a little exaggerated or mysterious, which added to the intrigue but sometimes made me wonder about their realism.
Overall, “The Revenge Plot” is a clever, fast-paced thriller packed with surprises. If you enjoy stories about revenge, secrets, and characters who might not be entirely who they seem, this book is a must-read. Jackie Kabler has once again delivered a book that’s impossible to put down—full of twists, suspense, and a clever commentary on how destructive revenge can be. I loved it and will definitely be keeping her on my radar for more thrillers!

This book started off well but mid way it lost momentum and became quite predictable. An OK read but in my opinion I dont think it is one of Jackie's best work

ARC review
Publication date: 30 May 25

3,5 stars

“The Revenge Plot” by Jackie Kabler is a psychological thriller.

Thank you HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the digital review copy of the book.
Opinions from this review are completely my own.

The main character of the book is Ella.
She goes to work one day to find out the place is closed and she cannot reach her employer.
A few days later she is evicted and ends up living in her car.

The first part of this story intrigued me, as I wanted to find out who is trying to destroy Ella's life and why.
She went through a lot but always managed to find a solution.
The story has a few twists that were unexpected and other characters are introduced.
There is some suspense and a lot of mystery, that is slowly revealed.

Unfortunately at some point I lost interest in the story as things seem to move in circles.
The ending was not very predictable, but I was not surprised.

A twisty one that starts with a very unusual situation- everything in Ella's life has disappeared. Well, not everything but the coffee shop where she works and, effectively her apartment. She's living in her car when she decides to go to her old pal Harriet. That doesn't go too well in the end as the two women then....no spoilers. This has short chapters which often end with a sort of hook so that you'll keep turning the pages. It's taut and well paced. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A very good read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A mixed bag of twists and frustrations

The Revenge Plot had an intriguing premise that immediately pulled me in. The opening chapters were fast-paced and full of promise, and I found myself genuinely curious about Ella’s unravelling life and who might be behind it. Jackie Kabler is clearly skilled at creating suspense, and the initial setup had me flipping pages quickly.

That said, after around the 60% mark, the pacing started to falter. The tension gave way to repetition, and I found myself losing momentum. If this hadn’t been an ARC, I’m honestly not sure I would have pushed through to the end.

The characters were another sticking point for me. While I did feel some empathy for Ella and understood her growing paranoia and frustration, most of the main characters felt flat or deeply unlikeable. It made it difficult to stay emotionally invested in the outcome.

This book definitely had potential and there were moments of clever plotting, but for me, it didn’t quite live up to the early intrigue. A decent read with some good twists, but not one that will stay with me.

Thank you Netgalley and Harper Collins for this ARC copy.

The revenge plot is a mostly dual POV thriller following the termoil of protagonist Ella, her old roommate Harriet and towards the end a third person Nisha. The multi POV allows us to dig into the minds and perceptions of all 3 women as the story plays out and allows us to feel some sympathy and understanding for each one.

The life events of the characters were relatable and believable which isn't always the case with thrillers and how everyone got to where they did was easy to understand. The descriptions of the places helped set the scene well and helped you feel inside the story without going over the top.

One of the major twists was revealed when I was about 40% in and I understand now why it was but it did feel very premature for me and the ending was not as satisfying as others I've read. I feel that nobody got the comeuppance I felt they deserved even if they did all end up with consequences for their actions.

The book overall, was enjoyable and believable and I will definitely consider others by this author as despite my issues it was a well written book.

Ella’s life comes crashing down around her and she has no idea how she’s found herself in this situation. She ends her week thinking everything is looking up and running smoothly in her life, only to arrive at work on Monday morning to find that her workplace no longer exists and there’s not a shred of evidence to suggest that it was ever there. This is just the start of it for Ella and her life starts falling apart more and more in the coming days.

This book did feel a little slow starting and repetitive at some points but I did think it picked up as the book progressed. Generally speaking I didn’t love any of the characters or feel completely invested in them, but despite this, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Ella as you watch her world unravel.

Jackie Kabler’s writing style does make for an easy and enjoyable read, with the short chapters and cliffhangers making me eager to read on. There were also some unexpected twists in the plot which I enjoyed, however I felt these could have been kept more minimal as at parts it felt very pantomime villain like. Despite this, I did enjoy this book overall and would recommend if you’re looking for a quick yet gripping thriller. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.

First time I have read this author. Good premise. Plenty of twists and turns if not a little predictable by the last third of the book. Some quite unlikeable characters with vengeance on their minds. I would definitely give the next one a try. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

It's the start of a new week and as Ella is flabbergasted as pulls into the trading estate where she work. The coffee shop she has been running for the last few months is simply gone. All the signage. Everything. It's like it simply never existed.

As she tries to discover more, things get even worse for Ella as the accommodation that came with her job disappears too. Forced to live in her car, she realises she's at the brunt of a hate campaign against her.

I loved the set up premise to The Revenge Plot, it's a great concept! As the different threads of revenge emerge, we are introduced to more unlikable characters. There are a lot of twists and turns, though they weren't too shocking. Ultimately it was a fun book – the first I have read for Kabler – so I'm looking forward to trying more.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
