This is such a great introductory book to Genesis. A book that I wish I'd read earlier on! It covers a great breadth of topics in an easy to read and helpful manner.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of Genesis and its nuances, helping the reader to grasp the cultural and historical context. Great book for drawing your attention to things we might otherwise miss.

As a layperson with a lot of Bible knowledge, and as a Bible Study teacher for my church, I find this book immensely helpful! I highly encourage anyone who is interested in studying the Bible to pick this book up and read at least some of it. While it is not possible to support every church tradition with one book, I am confident that all denominations would benefit from the ability to think from many angles and gain a deeper understanding of Genesis.

This is not a light read but more suited to seminary students and pastors I think. Careful reading will pay dividends with an emphasis on the need to re-evaluate the Genesis passages in light of their original context and meanings to the original audience. A worthy addition to the Genesis library already available.

This was an ok how to guide to help you start reading the Bible. I am looking for a little more out of my bible resources for my study. I do thi k this could help someone just starting to get a little more information.

This is not a light book by any stretch however it does get across its meaning in simple and understandable English. The book spends time situating the reader in life of the time that Genesis was thought to be written. The words may well be the breath of God that the author acknowledges that it takes a certain amount of knowledge and understanding to really get to grips with the text. Whilst knowing exactly when the first five books of the Bible were written may will never be known for certain positioning Genesis within the theologies of the ancient Near East really helps with the understanding. There are two creation stories within Genesis The creation from nothing alongside the garden of Eden. The author explores these in context as well as unpicking a little where the idea of the fall from Eden may have come from. This is absolutely fascinating to read as a text of general knowledge and extra special for Christians looking to go deeper into the first book of the Bible..
