“I was a punk who believed time was something to exhaust, not cherish.”

Readers first meet August who is still dealing with the death of his parents and adjusting to his new role of being guardian to his teen sister. He doesn’t want to miss anything because he now knows how precious “time” is. We are not guaranteed tomorrow. His sister Gabby is not your average teen; she is the sole accident survivor, which has left her partially deaf. August has been on a mission to fix his sister’s degenerative hearing condition. Gabby and August deal with the loss of their parents very differently. August blames the God his parents worshiped on the mission trip. Had they not been on a mission trip sharing the gospel they would still be alive. Gabby looks at her situation in a different light. She survived for a reason; what was it?

Sophie walks in, facing her own set of issues. She is still plagued by a terrifying incident at their family's winery that she can't shake. It doesn't help that her family refuses to believe anything happened. Sophie's financial condition, along with her emotional breakdown on stage, has opened the possibility of recording audiobooks. This is a way for her to generate extra money and do some acting without having to face an audience. She had no idea how much her life would alter as she recorded at August's studio and met Gabby, a lovely and outgoing teenager.

This book inspires me; it's full of emotion and well-developed characters I enjoyed hanging out with. I appreciated this thought-provoking novel that offers hope and sheds light in the darkness.

The author has beautifully crafted a story with endearing characters that deal with family drama, receiving and giving love, loss, forgiveness, and hope. I like how compassionately this author addressed these difficult issues.

This is a story you don't want to miss. If you haven't read a book by this author, I highly recommend this one. It would work well for your book club pick. The book includes questions to help with your book discussion time.

Nicole Deese’s The Voice We Find is an emotionally rich romance that masterfully weaves together themes of love, family, personal healing, and the power of second chances. Sophie Wilder’s return to her family winery in California after a failed Broadway career sets the stage for a beautifully layered story of self-discovery and new beginnings. With little to her name except a geriatric cat and dreams of reviving her acting career, Sophie takes a side job as an audiobook narrator at Fog Harbor Books, where she crosses paths with the reluctant sound engineer, August Tate.

August Tate, still reeling from the responsibility of guardianship of his teen sister, is struggling to balance the demands of his personal life and his faltering recording studio. When Sophie unexpectedly brings new energy into his world with her voice and her warmth, their connection begins to grow in ways neither of them anticipated. Their evolving bond, while rooted in their shared faith, slowly blossoms into a romance that feels earned, tender, and transformative.

What stands out in The Voice We Find is the emotional depth and complexity of the characters. Sophie’s longing to revive her acting career and her strained relationship with her brother at the winery mirror August’s internal battles as he navigates his responsibilities toward his sister and his own personal growth. The contrast of their lives—Sophie’s reinvention and August’s responsibility—makes for a compelling dynamic, creating moments of vulnerability and growth for both characters.

The romance is slow-burn and heartfelt, built on trust, shared experiences, and understanding. Sophie and August’s connection deepens through their work together and their shared faith, but it’s their ability to confront their personal struggles and fears that make their love story feel truly authentic. The portrayal of August’s dedication to his sister, as well as Sophie’s internal struggles with her career and familial expectations, adds emotional resonance to the romance, making it more than just a typical love story.

In The Voice We Find, Deese has crafted a story that is both moving and uplifting, with characters who are deeply relatable and wonderfully complex. It’s a tale of overcoming obstacles, finding one's voice, and embracing the unexpected paths to love and happiness. Fans of emotionally driven contemporary romance will find this book to be an absolute gem.

A beautiful story of love, family, faith and redemption. Though all the main characters were dealing with some sort of trauma in their lives, some lost their way.

There is a strong element of faith woven throughout this story, showing us how the Lord can work in our lives. Sometimes it is through other people. The Lord loves us regardless of our past. We can find a way to heal if we will only let him in.

This is my first book by this author. There is romance, complicated family interactions and even a mystery to be solved. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. All thoughts are my own.

Like we’ve come to expect in the Fog Harbor Books series, this book is filled with emotion, hope, and a look into the publishing world.

This particular book featured the creation of audio books. It was a cute story but filled with so much more depth. The story centers around themes of difficult family dynamics but also redemption.

A sweet, encouraging read. Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what a read!!
For those who are standing in the gap, believing for their loved ones… This book will reaffirm for you that God is surely putting the pieces of our lives together for good in a way that is more than we can ask or think or imagine.

genre: contemporary romance (clean)

main characters: Sophie, August and his sister Gabby

Setting: Coastal California with surfing, winery and theatre

Other areas of interest: the mission field, adoption,
hearing loss , ASL and finding faith again after grief

The story comes alive quickly and moves along at a good pace.
The characters relate well to one another. I loved that the author shared the characters thoughts in addition to their dialogue. These provided great laughable moments.

Thou there are multiple plot lines it was easy to follow. I was able to glide from one revelation to the next secret and then revelation… so satisfying a read.

I really like reading stories where there is a spiritual crisis of sorts.
The sureness and steadfastness of those characters who believe….
The way that I would imagine God reveals himself to those who are hurting…. This storyline and these characters have it all. Gladly there are no cliffhangers here… we were given a satisfying ending that ties up the many loose ends.

As our characters found a place of healing they also find their true voices. I whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone who has ever not been heard, those who have prayed for one who was hurt and thus became the silent one, and to those who believe in our God of Hope who sees and knows and has a plan to bring into existence his loving plans into our broken lives.

I received a complimentary copy of this book courtesy of the author through NetGalley for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this story. There was so much to love. I loved both of our main characters and the personal journeys that they go on. They were both written in a really authentic and heartfelt way that felt relatable and honest. It added a lot of emotional depth to the story that I really liked. I loved their relationship together as well as with all the other side characters—whom I also equally loved. Especially liked getting the little voice memos from Gabby’s perspective. It was an excellent addition that ended up bringing the whole story together in a beautiful way by the end!

I also really enjoyed the representation of the deaf and hard of hearing communities in this. It seemed well done and showed a lot of nuance; both the joys and struggles of the community. I also really enjoyed how the character’s faith journeys were depicted. Again, it felt very authentic and relatable, not at all cheesy or unnatural.

The plot as a whole was missing something for me—some flow some umph that just didn’t hit. Not really sure what.

I love this author and would love to read more of her writing Christian contemporary fictions (with a side of sweet romamce) like this.

THE VOICE WE FIND is the third novel in the Fog Harbor Romance series by NICOLE DEESE, but it can easily stand alone. It is the beautifully written story of people finding their voice as they go through difficult situations which lead them to trust in the Lord and one another. It is one of the loveliest Christian romance novels I have read and I will definitely be reading it again. It is a story about family dynamics, as we follow Sophie Wilder who has lived her life in the shadow of her overbearing brother, Jasper, and whose acting career has come to an embarassing end, forcing her to come home to the family wine farm and rely on her brother’s reluctant charity. …..
When August Tate agrees to his friend Chip’s suggestion that he use his struggling music recording studio to produce audiobooks, he is unprepared for the gorgeous Sophie who arrives to audition as a reader…….
August also has family problems and feels like a failure. He feels guilty for his bad choices and somehow responsible for his parents’ death and for his sister Gabby’s deafness, overcompensating by being ultra strict on his sister, taking his legal guardianship very seriously. In fact his story is reminiscent of that of the Biblical Prodigal Son……
I love everything about this story that is based on Paul’s words in Romans 8:38-39 “”For I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
I like the sensitive way in which the community accepts and includes those with hearing disabilities, and the strong Christian message of forgiveness and redemption on which the story is based. I cannor recommend The Voice We Find strongly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

This book was a couldn’t-put-it-down read for me! I had previously loved this author’s book The Words We Lost, and found this book to be in the same category. Loved the characters and the setting as well as her bringing in the deaf and hard of hearing communities. If this book doesn’t win some awards I’ll be surprised.

I received this book from the publisher via net galley in exchange for an honest review. Five stars!!

This is a wonderful story about giving the messy parts of life to God. I enjoyed the characters and learning a bit more about the work that goes in to producing audio books.

This book has multiple layers as well as a great cast of characters, all dealing with their own emotional baggage. I enjoyed the moderate pace which was perfect for the story since it allowed me to really think about what I was reading and how I would handle a similar situation. I also enjoyed the way the characters were so well developed, in a very methodical way as they conversed and interacted. The story flowed together just as the characters ran into bumps in their interpersonal relationships. I really enjoyed the way the author brought the three stories of Sophie, August and Gabby’s stories, with details that quickly got me invested in their lives and wanting the best for each of them. Sophie is an actress who has problems being on the stage and performing, August is feeling guilty about his parents’ deaths and Gabby is dealing with being left deaf in the same accident that took her parents. I was amazed by the strong characters and the layers of the story that peeled apart like an onion skin, revealing the heart of the problem and the hopes of each character in a believable and compassionate way. This is my first book that I have read by this author, but I definitely plan to look for others since I had difficulty putting this one down and had to tell others about how great it was right after finishing it. With the themes of self-discovery and forgiveness, this is a book that lends itself to group discussions in book clubs.

There is no other way to describe this story but beautiful; beautiful characters, beautiful settings, and beautiful plot. I loved every minute and I was hook from page one! Sometimes a series will lose momentum as it goes but with the Fog Harbor series, every book is a gem, full of heart and soul.

Another brilliant contemporary romance by Nicole Deese! This is the third book in the Fog Harbor series, but completely stands on its own. There are a couple of side characters who are side characters in the other books as well, but you don't need to read those to appreciate this one (though you would love them too, I promise!) This book follows August Tate, whose parents were killed in an accident 2 years prior and Sophie Wilder, who is returning home to her family's winery after failing spectacularly at what she believed was her dream. When they both get involved in the production of audio books through Fog Harbor to help make ends meet, the unexpected happens.

In addition to the sweet romance, there are some beautifully redemptive story lines with tales of healing and forgiveness. The faith thread in this one is absolutely solid as Sophie and August both embark on a spiritual journey throughout the book. There's also a bit of mystery/suspense included in the story, which only endeared it to me more. Sophie and August are both stellar characters, but I think Gabby, August's little sister, stole the show. Her character was so vibrant as she shone a light into the dark places. And I also have a soft spot for Sophie's sister-in-law, Natalie. I enjoyed the story line involving the deaf community as well and how the author shines a light on the issues they face regularly. Overall, this was an absolutely stellar read and it's one I could easily recommend. Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

This book is so precious and I didn't want it to end!

I loved how August and Sophie both had best friends that provided encouragement but also set them straight when they needed it!

Another fantastic part of the story was that August and Sophie came together as they are producing an audiobook. This was such a fun part of the story that was so enjoyable.

Some of the relationships in the book were strained, which at times was difficult to read, but unfortunately a real part of life. The author handled these parts with such grace and honesty.

Portia was an amazing character and coming alongside of Sophie was so endearing.

The integration of the deaf community and ASL was extra meaningful to me as I am an aunt of nieces with cochlear implants. It gave me a lot to think about as they journey throughout life with hearing challenges.

I loved this book and can't wait to share it with friends and family.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

I love Nicole Deese's books, and her Fog Harbor series is particularly strong. This installment of Fog Harbor is no exception!

The ASL/deaf-community element was especially meaningful for me; I took ASL in elementary school and had several deaf friends--loved revisiting that and wishing I'd kept up with both ASL and the friends over the years. And diving into audiobooks and live theatre on top of that in this read was just fascinating!

Loved it--so so good. I do recommend reading the series in order, as there are references here to characters in other books; it's not mandatory but will certainly add to the reading experience.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

The Voice We Find by Nicole Deese is an inspirational Christian romance book. It is the third book in the Fog Harbor series but it can be read and fully enjoyed as a standalone. This is my best book of the series so far. I love how the title was expressed in several ways - music, acting, audiobook recording, ASL, etc and the several dimensions about dealing with trauma and how everyone came to find healing in God, love, communication and other relationships. I would have loved clearer descriptions of the traumatic issues, however, everything was satisfactorily resolved. The romance was also lovely.

I love Nicole Deese's writing. Each book makes me love and admire her skill and perspective even more. The Voice We Find drew me in right away and had my rooting for each character from the beginning. The story is evocative and poignant that kept me thinking during times I had to close the book and live life. Nicole Deese books get better and better. Plus I love the colors on the cover here.

The individuals in this story have problems that the reader can relate to one way or another. The book shows how easy it is to veer off track by misunderstanding each other or certain situations and how one’s upbringing can affect the course of your life. Especially when you convince yourself that God is to blame. As readers we have a front row seat as we watch the characters in a spiritual and mental battle in which they find their voice. Throughout the struggles, the author dispenses lots of wisdom for all of us to enjoy and take to heart. Favorite characters besides Sophie, definitely Portia and Gabby. Favorite lines, “Gabby’s expression says this idea is well past the thinking stage and fully in the add-to-cart stage”, “....I tell them I’m running late for work and take the coward’s way out”, “We were just finishing up a fashion consultation in here. Let me check where we are on that.” You have to admit, that sounds a whole lot better than saying that you’re giving your opinion on what clothes someone should wear. Favorite additional topic is definitely the author breaking a lance for ASL. Then there’s a suspenseful part as well! A book that’s entertaining but at the same time blesses your soul. Definitely worth the read!

Many thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own, I was not required to write a positive review (but was very happy to do so!)

#TheVoiceWeFind #NetGalley.

This is the third book in the fog harbor series but can be read as a stand-alone.
Sophie Wilder comes home to the family winnery after failing to make it on the theatrical stage. She wants to find a way to get out from under her overbearing brother's control.
August Tate is trying to pick up the pieces of his life after losing his parents in a tragic accident an accident that left his sister Gabby with partial hearing loss.
Three people are trying to find their voice. I loved everything about this Christian based romance novel.

I can always count on Deese for an emotionally satisfying work of Christian fiction -- and not just Christian in name only.
