The Last Sunrise is a perfect summer read! Mental health plays a huge role in this book and it was done well.

The Last Sunrise by Anna Todd presents a stunning bouquet of emotions. From swoony to light hearted to angsty to absolutely heartbreaking. This perfect summer romance transports us to the beautiful beaches of Mallorca where Oriah finds freedom, in every sense. What started as a vacation fling with the local hottie, turns into something life changing and all consuming.
🌊 contemporary romance
⛵️ frenemies to lovers
🌊 coming of age
⛵️ angsty
🌊 grumpy sunshine
⛵️ trigger - illness, grief
I think you will be able to enjoy this story fully only if you keep aside the After glasses IYKYK. This story leans a bit towards women's fiction , so often Oriah and Julian's romance isn't the focal point. Rather we see the evolution and fight of a chronic illness in a beautiful smart sweet girl. Oriah has been through a lot and she wants to live. And coming to Spain with her workaholic mother for the summer is the chance of her lifetime. She wanted to be a bit reckless and spontaneous but Julian is a force. Grumpy, c0cky, sexy, surprisingly brooding, hiding something dark behind his a&&hole attitude..this boy is an enigma. Their pasts are interconnected but they didn't know it. Their presents are already colliding as her mother is leading the project threatening Julian's family fishing business and the island's eco system.
Julian judged her at first due to her rich American girl identity but soon he realises she is different. Witty. Sweet. Compassionate. Owner of a golden heart. Oriah saw beyond his hard exterior. I loved their adventurous dates in the noisy streets, in the stunning beaches, in the old boats, with the delicious foods..But what Julian didn't know was Oriah's secret. That she is making memories before she is gone and that she never planned to fall in love. I won't spoil the story for you but I can tell you this much..you will be getting what you want. After going through emotional hell. I love how Oriah found her voice and her self confidence and her fire with Julian. I love how she healed his broken bitter heart. I love how it ended up being a heartfelt story..even long after The Last Sunrise.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily

Anna Todd delivers an emotionally rich and beautifully atmospheric romance with The Last Sunrise. Set against the dreamy backdrop of Majorca, this story swept me away from the very first page.
Oriah “Ry” Pera is a relatable and refreshingly honest heroine—a young woman navigating chronic illness, an overprotective mother, and the quiet ache of feeling like life is happening to everyone else. When a summer relocation offers her a chance at independence, she finds herself drawn to the brooding yet magnetic Julián. Their connection is both tender and intense, and watching Ry break free from her self-imposed limitations to chase her own joy was deeply empowering.
Todd’s writing shines here—evocative, sincere, and perfectly paced. She captures that hazy, golden feeling of a summer that changes everything. Ry’s personal growth, her flirtation with freedom, and her bittersweet longing made this not just a love story, but a story about finding yourself.
If you love swoony European settings, slow-burn romance, and heroines who come into their own, The Last Sunrise is a must read romance!

Anna Todd’s After series got me into reading and I realized I hadn’t read her since, so I had to pick this up.
This is a sweet, emotional, summer romance that deals with sensitive topics but was done well. Anna is truly a great storyteller!
Thank you so much to Hambright qnd Gallery Books for the early review copy!

When twenty-two-year-old Oriah (Ry) Pera learns that her mother’s job is relocating them to Majorca, she knows this summer could be the start of her very own coming-of-age story. Between chronic health issues and her mother’s overprotective tendencies, Ry feels like she’s stuck waiting for her life to begin. In her first small act of rebellion, she heads off to the beach alone and meets an infuriatingly charming Spaniard. Julián makes Ry feel even more naive and inexperienced than she normally does, but she can’t tamp down her growing attraction. As the summer continues, Julián pulls Ry out of her shell and into the adventures she’s always craved. But with her return to America looming, Ry must decide if she’s brave enough to finally follow her heart and live for herself.
Thank you @hambright_pr and @gallerybooks for sending over this book. This is the perfect book if you are looking for a heartfelt summer read. Both of our MC had so much depth and complexities in their own personal lives with one battling their body and the other their mind. Mental health plays a big role in this book and shows a very accurate representation of what some experience when living with a condition like this. We see a ton of self discovery while watching someone’s first love in such a beautiful and emotional way. I definitely think this will be the perfect summer read that will pull on your heartstrings.

As a fan of Anna Todd, I eagerly grabbed the opportunity to read this book. Initially, I found myself struggling to enjoy it, primarily because I found Oriah, the female main character, quite irritating. Her whiny, judgmental, and immature behavior made it challenging to get into the story. However, as I continued reading, I discovered that I ultimately enjoyed the book much more than I expected.
I definitely preferred Julián, the male main character, over Ry. While he had his flaws, he was undeniably more relatable and likable. The emotional ups and downs throughout the story left me feeling conflicted at times, but overall, it turned out to be a nice summer read.

The Last Sunrise is one of those books that sneaks up on you emotionally. It’s quieter than Anna Todd’s After series, but in a really beautiful and mature kind of way. The story dives deep into grief, healing, and the complicated way love weaves through both. The characters feel raw and real, sometimes frustrating, sometimes heartbreaking, but always human.
That said, it’s definitely a slow burn. Some parts dragged a little for me, but once the emotional payoff hit, I was all in. Todd’s writing shines the most when she leans into vulnerability, and this book has plenty of it.
Also, fair warning: you might finish this book and just sit there staring into space for a while. I definitely did.
If you’re looking for something that’s introspective, romantic, and a little messy in the best way, this one is for you.

The Last Sunrise is a beautifully story that provides emotion and a dreamy summer escape. The setting in Majorca is vivid and transportive- Anna Todd writes the coastline with such clarity that you can feel the breeze, smell the sea, and imagine the sun reflecting off the waves. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to find a quiet spot on the beach and stay there until you’ve read every last word.
Oriah is living with a rare seizure disorder, and she balances between fear and longing, craving a life that feels just out of reach. Her trip to Spain becomes more than a change of scenery- it’s a chance to step into herself for the first time. Julian, the guarded local with a heavy heart, matches her in ways neither of them expects. Their connection is fast, but it’s rooted in shared loneliness. The romance develops through real, difficult conversations, not just flirtation, which gave their story weight.
The Last Sunrise is a tender, thoughtful book about love, mortality, and choosing to live with intention. It’s perfect for readers who want more than just a summer fling- who want sunlit pages filled with hope, heartbreak, and healing.

This is the first Anna Todd book I've read and now I'm ready to go read her entire backlist! This was beautifully written.

“I love him. Every light and dark part of him. And I’ll never leave his side… not until fate pries me away. And even then? I’ll fight like hell.” 🥀
✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨
Okay so hear me out… this book is so far from my usual romantasy comfort zone, but I gave it a shot because I loved the After movie by Anna Todd (yes, I said movie, sorry to the book purists - I haven't read it yet ).
Meet Oriah (Ry) — she's spending the summer in Majorca with her mom (whos there for work), hoping for a dreamy escape from the weight of her chronic illness and her mom’s constant hovering. Just one carefree, sun-soaked, romantic european summer. Is that too much to ask?
Enter Julian. Kinda rude? Kinda gorgeous? Definitely not a vibe at their first not so meet cute. But after one messy night out, things shift. They realize they’ve got way more in common than they thought… that is until long-buried family secrets resurface, her health begins to quietly unravel, and the weight of the past threatens everything they’re building.
For me, the romance moved a bit fast… but given Ry’s health and the whole “life is short” theme, I let it slide. It gave modern-day A Walk to Remember and if you know, you know. 😭 Julian was flawed as well, but I loved seeing the mental health representation and some of his bad days. It just felt so relatable.
I literally finished this in one sitting and then Googled flights to Spain. So muchas gracias senora Anna.
For my readers who love:
✨ Reluctant acquaintances to lovers
✨ Second chance vibes
✨ Forced proximity
✨ Opposites attract
✨ Ticking time bomb energy
✨ Rich guy, broke girl
Thanks to Hambright PR and the author for the ARC! ✨

I’ll be honest—I requested this book up just because of the cover. It’s so pretty, I couldn’t resist! I had no idea what it was about, which actually made reading it a nice surprise.
This was a good light read for a summer weekend. I really liked the setting—Majorca, Spain—with its beachy, coastal vibe. It made everything feel warm and romantic.
Ry and Julian had an instant connection, but they didn’t jump right into anything. They had their differences and needed to work through them. The story touches on self-discovery, first love, and learning how to deal with past feelings. Some of the topics were a bit heavy, but I think they were handled with care.
I read this on my Kindle and found it easy to get through. The writing flowed well, and the overall tone matched the relaxing, summery setting.
That said, the story didn’t fully pull me in. Some parts felt a little flat or lacking depth. But if you’re looking for a quick, heartfelt read in a beautiful setting, it might be worth a try.

WOW! This book is exactly what I needed. This is one of my new Top reads of the year. What a great summer romance. While this story was very emotional and heart tugging, it put my heart and emotions back together.

word of advice— don't read the last 40 pages of this book 15 minutes before a business meeting
oh my goodness. I should've finished this book right before a business meeting but I couldn't help myself. This story was sooo ... asdfghjkl; I loved the growth of Ry and seeing her not only fall in love with Julian, but with herself and heal herself (in more ways than one) and the growth of her mama. This story was deeply intertwined with growing pains of mother/daughter relationships and the haves and have nots. This story really could've gone ANY way and I'm glad it ended the way it did.
Thank you @annatodd & @hambright_pr for allowing me early access to this beautiful story. I am sososo in love with Ry and Julian and I will forever treasure this book

Beautiful story set in an picturesque Spain. I really enjoyed this one, it's heartwarming, beautiful and stunning. The characters really resonate and the pacing was perfect, I did feel like I needed a bit more romance wise but all in all very emotionally and angsty.

✨Thank you so much @annatodd @hambright_pr @simonandschuster @gallerybooks for this gifted eARC and physical copy!! 🫶🏻🧡🩵🩷
🌅The Last Sunrise
🩵by Anna Todd
🌅Available May 6th, 2025
This book has officially entered my (very slim) 6 STAR READ category!!! 🥹 I already adored Anna Todd but reading this one just further solidified my thoughts that I will be reading everything Anna writes after…. (sorry for the pun, I had to!)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
🌶️🌶️🌶️
🌅Oriah is our 22 year old FMC who is beyond strong with a heart of gold while also dealing with chronic health issues and her mother’s “work is everything” attitude outside of taking care of Ry’s medical needs.
🩵When Ry’s mother whisks her away to a project for work in beautiful Majorca, she decides that she is going to start living this summer to the fullest. Enter our ever-so-charming MMC, Julian. 🤭
🌅Ry gets even more of an exciting summer adventure when her path crosses with Julian. He brings out so many new sides of her that opens her up to the beautiful possibilities that are still out there.
🩵Their story had me invested the entire time and I went on such an emotional roller coaster that tugged at my heartstrings and left me speechless! I could say so much more but I want to keep this review spoiler free💕
🌅 Anna Todd’s writing was absolutely breathtaking in this read and I’m so honored to have been gifted this early copy!! Thank you again, Anna, Hambright PR, Gallery and Simon and Schuster. 🫶🏻
*I received a gifted copy of this title but reviews and opinions are completely my own*

A tender, sun-soaked coming-of-age romance. Between chronic health struggles and an overprotective mom, Ry’s life has always felt like it’s on pause—until one impulsive trip to the beach changes everything. Julián, a charming and frustrating Spaniard, challenges Ry in all the right ways, pulling her into the kind of adventures she’s only dreamed of. Their slow-burn summer romance is both sweet and emotional, as Ry learns what it means to truly live for herself. A beautiful story about growth, courage, and first love. Not to mention the narration was absolute perfection. Anna Todd is a forever must read.

This was a little too YA for me. I felt like the MC's were immature. I wanted to love this book as it's very popular. Unfortunately, It missed the mark for me.

After relocating, Ry's life transforms and in the midst she find love. After the summer is over, she must make some difficult decisions. This was my first read by Anna Todd and it was amazing!

The Last Sunrise by Anna Todd. An enjoyable story with sadness, happiness, and so much more. A lot of ups and downs. I hope to be able t read more by this author in the future.

Many thanks to Hambright PR for the gifted ARC of The Last Sunrise by Ann Todd.
This was my first book by Ann Todd, and I found it to be a very sweet and heartwarming summer romance. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Majorca, the story touches on important and often heavy topics—chronic and terminal illnesses, grief, loss, and depression—all handled with respect, care, and emotional depth. I really enjoyed how authentic the characters felt and appreciated following their emotional journeys throughout the story.
That said, the romance itself felt a little rushed for my taste. The enemies-to-lovers transition happened almost overnight, making it difficult for me to fully believe in the intensity of their connection. Additionally, the double love story twist at the end felt a bit cringy and took away from some of the emotional payoff I was hoping for (no spoilers here!).
Overall, The Last Sunrise is a sweet, emotional story that I’m sure will resonate deeply with many readers, even if it wasn’t a perfect match for me. I would definitely be interested in reading more from Ann Todd in the future!
