It makes sense that a ghost made with a quilt would be warmer in winter than a ghost made with a sheet. Little Ghost Quilt finds out what happens in the winter and he brings it back to share with his friends. It was cute and my 4yo liked it.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

This is the second ghost quilt book I have read and I love it as much the first one. The story itself is beautiful and the illustrations are worthy to be hung on my wall. That's a fabulous book

The Little Ghost Quilt’s Winter Surprise was such a cute story. A little ghost who wears a quilt instead of a sheet is able to fly around in the winter weather while his friends are stuck inside. One day while roaming, the little ghost sees a sparkle and discovers humans celebrating Christmas. He finds the lights and the joy so amazing that he wishes he could share it with his friends. He suddenly has the idea that he will bring the same joy to his friends so they can all enjoy together.

This has The Nightmare Before Christmas vibes, but in a more innocent light. We don’t see a complex hero’s journey with this book like with TNBC, but you get the same feeling. I really enjoyed this and found myself smiling quite a few times.

The Little Ghost Quilt's Winter Surprise is an engaging and sweetly written picture book for young readers by Riel Nason. Due out 26th Aug 2025 from Penguin Random House on their Tundra imprint, it's 48 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

Instead of being a sheet like his friends and family, Little Ghost is a patchwork quilt. He feels left out and just -different-. Through his adventures, he finally figures out that just maybe, being different isn't always a bad thing. He's sad and missing his friends when he's having adventures in the cold snowy weather while his thin "sheet" ghost friends have to stay inside because of the cold and snow.

The text is simple, spare, and direct. The softly rendered illustrations by Byron Eggenschwiler enhance the story very well and are full of atmosphere and expressive details (see Little Ghost's "facial" expressions, for example).

Five stars. This is a wonderful book for kids with good takeaways for all-ages. It would be an excellent choice for public or classroom library, home use, and gift giving, as well as a library story-time or reading circle.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Just as sweet and adorable as the first book, this is a very cute, wholesome amalgamation of the spooky and the yuletide seasons. Absolutely loved it and will definitely be using this one for a winter themed storytime in the shop.

I've been meaning to read The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt for years now, and when I received this one, I didn't even realize it was the sequel. The illustration style is just sooo enticing to me, I wanted to read it immediately, no matter what.

This book is really my two personality types colliding. A Christmas book about a ghost??? Sign me up! It's cute, cozy, warming, and charming as all get. I really can't recommend this one enough.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tundra Book Group for an advanced copy. Release date is August 26th, 2025. All thoughts and opinions are, as always, my very own.

This is so cute and cozy. Little ghost quilt is very sweet. This also feels like it would be more readable than other christmas books around the holidays.

Little ghost quilt loves being out in the cold, with the thickness of his patches, he doesn’t overheat - especially when it starts snowing. But his friends, who are sheets, get too cold and freeze in the winter weather and have to stay inside. Little ghost quilt doesn’t mind drifting around on his own, but sometimes he does miss his friends.

One day, little ghost quilt sees something bright and sparkling in town. Upon further investigation, he sees people are putting up twinkling lights and warm festivities are in the air - it’s almost like Halloween, but with snowmen instead of pumpkins, and presents instead of buckets of candy. He is filled with excitement, but he really wants his friends to see.

On his way home, little ghost quilt gets caught in a blizzard and after getting snagged in a tree, he is struck by inspiration.

I went into this children’s book, not having read the first book but was immediately caught by the illustration on the cover.

It’s such a cute book about something that’s typically meant for Halloween, finding out about Christmas. As someone who tends to keep Halloween decorations up year around anyway, this just makes me smile even more. What’s more is that little ghost quilt shows a lot of empathy for his friends and thinking creatively on how to share something new for them.

Overall, this is an adorable book for children about the joys of winter festivities that I think adults would also enjoy for the cute illustrations.

In this charming tale, Riel Nason introduces us to a little ghost who is a quilt, not a sheet. While this makes him different from his friends, it's also what allows him to revel in the winter weather that his sheet friends can't stand. When he discovers the festive magic of the season, he feels a familiar excitement but is sad his friends can't join him. The story beautifully explores themes of friendship, finding joy in your differences, and the power of sharing that joy with others. A touching and cozy read that will leave young readers feeling warm inside.

I’m thrilled to continue reading about the little ghost who was a quilt! Another charming, sweet little story about finding your place in the world and bringing joy to your friends. The illustrations in this book are breathtaking! I look forward to adding this to my family’s read aloud pile, especially between Halloween and Christmas. I look forward to purchasing a copy to donate to my son’s classroom library - the artwork it would inspire my little readers would be endless!

This is a very sweet book, filled with absolutely gorgeous illustrations, about a quilt ghost who just wants to make winter better for his sheet ghost friends.

This is a lovely story about friendship, kindness, and doing what you can for others; littles will love this book and its story and I can see it becoming a favorite year-round.

I really loved the illustrations-- the contrasting hues are really engaging.
The text was a bit wordy for younger grades, but can be improvised. It could definitely lead to a lot of good and informative conversations about friendship, seasons, originality, etc. Overall, a great fall book

I requested this book from Netgalley because I like children's books with excellent artwork and a unique take on an idea. I love the concept of the winter time ghost, who flies about and stays warm even in the snow. A little fish-out-of-water who discovers a new way to celebrate being with his other ghostie friends. The story teaches empathy and creativity, as Ghost Quilt strives to understand his friends limitations while also pursuing their company. The story also teaches how adopting and expressing culture that isn't yours can be a respectful and beautiful practice.

I recommend this beautiful kids book (48 pages) to parents of 5 to 8 years olds and anyone who enjoys great illustration and well-written kids lit.

Thank you to the authors Riel Nason and Byron Eggenschwiler, Tundra Books, and NetGalley for a digital arc of THE LITTLE GHOST QUILT'S WINTER SURPRISE. All views are mine.

The illustrations of this book are truly the highlight. The ghosts are adorable and I love looking at the pictures. I believe this is a series, but this is the first one I have read. I will say for those who are reading this one first the beginning is confusing. The starting off sentences are clunky and convoluted. I think it might be difficult to understand. After the beginning couple pages though it was a nice story to read.

I was so excited when I saw this book! The little ghost that was a quilt was such a wonderful story and this continuation was just as heartwarming. My kids love these books and I hope they keep making more! Who doesn’t love a little ghost quilt!
