In this cute book, Jennifer love Hewitt talks about losing her mom. Her mom was very special and added a touch of “magic” into everyday living. Jennifer has taken up the reigns and added “magic” into her own kids lives. She goes a little in depth about how she makes each holiday and birthday special. She even gives cute ideas on how to make just everyday life full of joy. What she does sounds like a lot of work and yes she may be crazy for doing it, but I’m sure these memories will last in her kids minds and hearts for years to come!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Inheriting Magic: My Journey Through Grief, Joy, Celebration, and Making Every Day Magical” by Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Inheriting Magic is a heartfelt blend of memoir, practical guide, and celebration of the extraordinary power of everyday magic. As someone who lost my Mum – my best friend and the magic-maker of my childhood – this book felt deeply personal.

Jennifer captures the bittersweet truth that while grief lingers, we can still choose joy and celebration. Her reflections on losing her mother to cancer and stepping into the role of magic maker for her own family resonated profoundly. I found myself nodding along – you can cry in the shower and still light candles for dinner or bake something just because.

The book balances personal anecdotes with practical steps for adding magic to life’s moments – whether that’s through seasonal decorating, family rituals, or small touches that bring warmth and light. The suggestions are adaptable for any budget or capacity, making the ethos of creating magic feel accessible to everyone.

Jennifer’s vulnerability shines through in her stories, making this feel less like a celebrity memoir and more like a cosy chat with a friend who gets it.

If you’re someone who treasures the little things – this book will inspire you. It’s a reminder that love, grief, and magic can coexist, and that choosing to create beauty in the ordinary is a legacy worth carrying on.

✨ Recommended for:
• Those navigating grief who find solace in traditions and rituals
• Lovers of holiday planning and seasonal magic
• Anyone looking for heartwarming, practical ways to make everyday life feel special

Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced ALC of this book

I have been a fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt since my teens and listening to this audiobook of a small glimpse into her life was lovely, the stuff she says she does with her kids and how there are theme nights etc was great and I definitely will be suggesting some of these to my mate her little girl to try and do often.

In this book, she talks about how u can find magic in anything and it is all shown in how you go about it... I can see throughout this book how this mindset and also other things create so much love, fun and happiness 😊.

If u like this actress I do recommend this book I devoured this in one sitting.

A sweet love letter to Jennifer Love Hewitts beloved mother, their relationship, how she was impacted by the loving woman she was and how she metabolized the life lessons and lives with her grief in the most beautiful way. That was a part of the book. The rest was a book about party planning and though there were great creative ideas, I could have done with a little less of it.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook Inheriting Magic- written and read by Jennifer Love Hewitt.

I love Jennifer Love Hewitt. She seems so sweet and this book, and her magic, is a true love letter to her mother. Part grief memoir, part recommendation on how to add “magic” to everyday life, this was a fun and quick read. Highly recommend the audiobook as I love Jennifer’s voice and it feels like your best friend is reading to you!

I love me some J. Love and this sweet book is as bubbly and fun as I’ve found her since Kids Incorporated!!!

I absolutely loved the background and heart her mother never stopped bringing to her family in her lifetime and what a bonus to be invited into Love’s own shaping of traditions.

This is such a fantastic book for those who love to create wonder for those around them. Full of recipes, wonderful tips and all around magic making for the family no matter your budget or time. Something for everyone.

Thank you NG for ARC. Sigh..
I have always been a fan of JLH. Her movies, tv shows plus her talent in singing. I even remember that there was a Barbie Workout VHS tape. She was on it, front row and all. She went by Love Hewitt on that tape for some reason. She sang all the songs on that track. I digress..
This "memoir" leaves me underwhelmed, confused, and unsure if she is being serious or not with her use of the word magic. Is it a metaphor?
I feel like I am interrupting a conversation or getting a hold of someone's journal and picking a random entry to start with.
It definitely has the " stop trying to make fetch happen" vibe. Magic is mentioned a lot.
Now I know it could totally be me. But, I'm not as "deep" as Hewitt and her community. , I wanted to like this, but it comes off as a cash grab.

*2.5 stars*

I recently listened to the audiobook "Inheriting Magic" by Jennifer Love Hewitt. This book is part memoir and part inspirational guide, focusing on holiday decorations, activities, and small ways to create "magic" in everyday life.

As a long-time fan of Jennifer, I found the initial chapters moving. She shares her experience of losing her mother to cancer, finding the love of her life, and starting a family. Her reflections on grief, especially how it affects holidays, are heartfelt and relatable.

However, the rest of the book takes a weird turn, focusing heavily on Jennifer's passion for decorations and traditions for every possible holiday. While her intentions are good, aiming to share her tips and tricks, the book often feels overly commercial. There is a strong emphasis on buying decorations and other items, with frequent mentions of stores where these can be purchased. Although she often says that things don't have to be expensive, the constant focus on shopping can be overwhelming.

I appreciated the book for its creative ideas, but I wish it didn't come across as a book for the more privileged. More free or low-cost tips would have made the book perfect, especially given the current economic climate. Additionally, not everyone has the time or resources to redecorate and deep-clean their homes twice a month.

Overall, "Inheriting Magic" offers some useful tips, but it's best to take what works for you and not feel pressured to follow all the advice to the letter.

This was really raw and sad and you can feel the emotions pouring out of Jennifer as she's narrating this. I'm gathering my thoughts as of the moment and I'm going to go back and edit this.

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s memoir centres around the lessons she learned from her mother’s death and how her legacy lives on through Jennifer. Jennifer has taken her mum’s magic and filled her world with it for herself and her children.

In theory, this is all well and good, I do think it’s a bit flimsy to fill out a memoir but this is a short book so that’s fine! In practice, none of this was enjoyable. This should’ve been a blog post (affiliate links included! No seriously, I could not get over how many times ‘I bought this from Amazon, Etsy, etc. was said, I was waiting for her to direct readers to her storefront link) and not a published book. Even for the length it was still repetitive and there is just very little substance.

The larger issue from my perspective was this book is essentially a celebrity saying ‘here’s what I do with the resources I have’ without even ONCE acknowledging that her resources, both financial and time-wise, are greater than most of the women and mothers who will read her book. The whole thing feels very tone deaf and I think it may be enjoyed by other tone deaf women but that’s about it.

Of course Jennifer’s narration was delightful and she bought a lot of life to the performance.
