This is the fourth book in the Montana Riverbend series, but it is the first I read and I has no problem following this story. Kira Shepherd Blair’s older sister Neve died eighteen years ago at River Bend Park, on the night of the 1996 Marietta High School senior prom. Kira never closed that chapter, and still has questions. When Neve's highschool boyfriend and date the night of the prom, Casey “Jay” Brown moves back to Marietta to work at the same place as Kira, questions bubble to the surface in many people. As Kira and Casey work together, ask questions and help each other, they begin to have feelings for one another. What really happened the night Neve died? What was behind her risky behaviour?

After The Rain is a family drama and romance that deals with secrets and childhood trauma. One of the stages of grief, is anger and Kira was still there 18 years later. Kira is dealing with a lot in her life. She is divorced with a ten year old son. Her ex doesn't spend much time with her son and his first wife does not make life easy for Kira whenever they cross paths. As Kira and Casey begin to have feelings for one another, they both fight it because of their history. This is an emotional story that shows how secrets and trauma can affect lives. I liked how Lilian Darcy gives us Casey's POV from both the past and the present. It helps us get to know Casey and his reasoning of returning to Marietta. Both Kira and Casey were wonderful characters, had established themselves and had a good life, but still had this one piece of baggage to deal with in order to become truly happy. I enjoyed this story, but I definitely want to go back and read the previous books to get the full story.
