i teetered a lot when reading this novel. there were some parts that were super captivating to me and others not so much. i did like the concept but the romance aspect was a little weird to me. i liked emery and her flawed ideals regarding the predicament she was in. i think she was a realistic character for the situations she was put in. i liked the side characters too. overall, it was an honestly decent book!

I enjoyed this story! The plot is unique. You Make My Heart Stop was a fast read that follows Emery who has a rare heart condition in which her heart stops when she is surprised or in sudden pain. Each time her heart stops, she goes to a comforting memory, a sort of limbo, where she meets a kindred soul, Nick. Their connection to each other in these short moments before Emery’s heart restarts grows into love for each other. Throughout Emery’s life, she is torn between wanting to live her life on earth or return to Nick on the other side.

As the story progressed, I found it increasingly difficult to identify with Emery’s motivations to go through life keeping people at arms length, even if it’s understandable on some level. Despite that frustration with the FMC, I still thought it was a great read that I would recommend to any fan of contemporary romance!

I had high expectations but this book was not for me. I felt like the timing abruptly jumped forward and there was limited character development. I would have liked to see more character development and context between the time jumps.

I’m sorry but this was a no for me. I was lead to believe this read would be similar to The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood (one of if not my favorite reads of all time). However that was not the case! Where is the romance? Where is the plot? It was like we were stuck in a time loop with no progress. Not only was I disappointed in the lack of plot but also had a hard time connecting with the characters. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This novel was so unique and thought provoking. The writing was so well done. It was a nice change from the usual romance books I lean towards reading

Would recommend if you’re looking for a wonderful women’s fiction book to sink into.

Thank you to Netgalley and Forever books for the ARC of this novel; all opinions are my own.
