Thank you to Kensington and Netgalley for this advance copy. The review is my thoughts only.

I'm a fan of Lee Hollis so I was anxious to read this newest, first in series. The story revolves around a widower, his daughter and both of their friends. The friends are quite interesting as one is a former first lady, and there is an estranged uncle. They end up mixing together well enough in pursuit of who a killer is. There are misadventures, some twists but it does resolve by the end. I felt it could have been explained better but still made sense. This is some humor but not as much as in a Haley Powell book. Just of note for those who follow that series. Still, I was entertained.

A nice start to a new series featuring father and daughter amateur sleuths Jarrod and Liv. They find themselves with a mystery on their hands when Zel, Liv's film maker boyfriend of sorts, is murdered. I liked this less for the mystery than for the dynamics between the pair. Jarrod is still mourning his husband Charlie and Liv has her own issues. And it's in a great setting. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Lots of characters here and since it's the first in a series, they'll be sure to grow.

Unexpectedly different than their other series and charming in of itself. I enjoyed the setting and backstory of all the characters and like how it's setting up for future stories already. Good father / daughter moments for the next book. I like the besties and the relationship with the former First Lady. The mystery was missing some connection points for me, as it did feel too out of the blue compared to how/why these characters would actually know one another. But I'm up for the next book!

I love cozy mysteries because they tend to come in a light, yet fast pace, with a dash of humour in the prose that keep you feeling joyful despite the murder mystery. Personally, I found this story to take a bit of a slower pace than I expected. The death takes a while to occur, and while there were twisty parts that kept it interesting in the meanwhile that kept me from complaining in the lead up to the murder, I'd say the pace maintained the same throughout.

The book is nice, and I enjoyed the plot. It delivered with twists, a diverse set of characters, complicated dynamics and drama. However, I find that it didn't quite stand out that much from other mysteries I've previously read. I felt like it missed a sense of quirky or whimsy I tend to look for in cozy mysteries, and it felt more like a 'light mystery'.
I was expecting the father-daughter duo to be more in focus, yet Liv almost felt like a side-character at times and I didn't feel like I could connect to the character in the same way I could with Jarrod.

Although I didn't quite get the "edge of my seat" feeling while reading, I did find joy in the pages while I went through them, so I'd still tell lovers of cozy mysteries to check this story out.

Good start to a new series (?) I enjoyed getting to know Jarrod and his daughter, Liv, but was a little confused in the beginning with the number of characters that are thrown at you. They are well-fleshed out as the series goes on and it becomes much easier to keep them straight. The mystery itself is well=paced and I enjoyed the other storylines involving Liv’s surrogate mom and Jarrod’s dipping his toe in the dating pool after the loss of a spouse. Looking forward to more in this series (it seems like there will be more based on the ending, fingers crossed).

Jarrod and his daughter Liv are both still grieving the loss of Charlie, Jarrod's husband. While Jarrod is busy with his new theatre production, Liv has begun dating Zel, an aspiring film-maker, who wants to do a documentary about Liv and her parentage and surrogate mother. Later on, when Zel is found dead in his studio, Jarrod and Liv team up to try and figure out who killed Zel. I will say, I was not impressed with this, overall. I did not care for the main characters. Jarrod went on and on about Charlie, and Liv was so easily manipulated by Zel. I do not like weak women characters, so I was glad Zel was the murder victim, even though the murder didn't occur until about a third of the way through the book. I have read other Lee Hollis books and really enjoyed them, this is the first time I have liked the secondary characters more than the main characters. Kitty, Maude, and Brody were great!

Jarrod Jarvis is a retired child actor who moved to Palm Springs ten years ago after the death of his husband. He has always been an addicted amateur sleuth since guesting on several detective shows years ago. When his daughter, Liv, finds her new boyfriend dead on the floor of his film studio, Jarrod teams with her to find the killer. The local police are not happy with them, but when they uncover several vital clues, the police cannot discount them. And then the killer comes after Jarrod....Big mistake on his part...

This is a fun start to a new cozy mystery series.
Jarrod, a former child actor, is directing a local play. His daughter Liv is a recent graduate. When her boyfriend is found murdered, father and daughter team up to play sleuths.
Characters are quirky and very unique. The plot was fun, little different which is always nice.
Can't wait to see what they get up to next.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

My Father Always Finds Corpses was a delightful read. The two lead characters were a father and a daughter, which is different from most books. The mystery itself was entertaining, and the supporting characters lent great color to the book. I really liked Kitty and her influence on Jarrod. Can’t wait for the next book.

As soon as I read that this books main character was a former child star, I was hooked. I enjoyed the characters and liked reading them develop. I would consider this a cozy mystery, it was humorous, had a good mystery and paved the way for more books in the future. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open to see when the next book will be coming out.

Jarrod is a retired actor who directs plays for the local theater group. His daughter Liv has a brand-new Criminal Justice degree and a bit of a strained relationship with her only living dad. The cast of characters is an entangled mess of exaggerated Hollywood types that had me laughing my sox off. The plot seems a little scatty to me, but it certainly is funny, lighthearted, and moves along at a fast pace.

My Father Always Finds Corpses by Lee Hollis is the first book in a new series and I cannot wait for the next one. Live is the daughter of director and childhood star, Jared Jarvis in the late detective Charlie who Jared is still morning. So needless to say she was born by a surrogate and when her want to be documentary Boyfriend Zelle pleedse with her for him to reunite her with her mother she doesn’t know if she wants to do it. Unfortunately Zelle, whose comprehension level is low so he takes that as yes please let’s do it immediately and she shows up at his studio to find a woman she’s never met her surrogate mom, Candy. Liv doesn’t want to tell Jared because when it comes to her parents she was much closer to Charlie but when she finds Zelle dad in his studio Jared is the first person she calls. Between her newly found siblings and those at the college there’s many suspects but only one culprit and live and Jared join up to find them. A lot of people say this was a fun read and I am absolutely going to say that and it is 100% the truth. I loved so many aspects of this book that the mystery to me was really secondary from Jared not wanting to date again to his best friend Leo and George not to leave kitty out and Liv was so likable as well as her uncle this was just a ton of fun and I loved it cannot wait for the next book. #NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #LeeHollis, #MyFatherAlwaysFindsCorpses,

This is a fun cozy mystery which looks like it might be the first in a series. Jarrod is a retired actor who is enjoying his time directing plays for the local theater group. Liz, his daughter, is a brand new graduate with a criminal justice degree. When a friend of Liz is found murdered, Jarrod and Liz team up as father-daughter crime fighters to solve the mystery. This will be super appealing to cozy mystery lovers, and the ages of Jarrod and Liz will provide appeal for multiple generations of readers, young and old. Fans of Deanna Raybourne's series about the retired government agents and fans of Richard Osman's books will love this.

Jarrod Jarvis, former child star who’s still recovering from the loss of his husband Charlie a decade or so earlier, is trying to reconnect to his twenty-something daughter Liv who was always closer to her other dad. However, when Liv stumbles on her boyfriend, he dashes over to help her, and then when she decides to do some poking around, he decides to help her, hoping that the investigation will bring them closer together.

First, I felt the description for this book was a bit misleading. While it made it sound like it was a huge part of the plot, the bit about Jarrod solving crimes was a paragraph or so when he was talking to some old friends. And then Liv hadn’t been dating Zel that long and wasn’t putting her career on hold for him. In fact, she was planning on having a serious discussion - possibly breaking up with him - when she found the body. She did object to the way he handed the reveal her birth mum when she asked him to go slow, and then he stood her up when she was going to introduce him to her dad. The description also skips over her uncle Brody (Charlie’s brother) who’s a former WWE-style wrestler who provides the muscle when the investigating duo need backup.

Second, I really enjoyed this book. While the mystery was fairly obvious, the quirky, fund side characters more than made up for it - Kitty, the former First Lady who’s now a widow; Leo and George another couple and close friends of Jarrod; Jim, the Secret Service Agent assigned to guard Kitty who Jarrod might just have a bit of a crush on. I also liked how part of the reason Jarrod got involved was to reconnect to his daughter - a unique reason for solving a crime.

Overall, highly recommended. I look forward to further adventures of Jarrod and Liv. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley.com which I voluntarily reviewed.

My Father Always Finds Corpses by Lee Hollis
Jarrod Jarvis is a former child star. The story starts with him rehearsing a play that he’s written. Jarrod is a gay man whose husband died ten years earlier. He is reluctant to move on even when his friends start trying to introduce him to possible love interests. He has an eclectic group of friends, one gay couple who go to an exercise class with him. One of them danced with Fosse. A former first lady, Kitty, is also a friend who not only invites him to celebrity parties, but she is also guilty of matchmaking. Jarrod has a reputation as an amateur sleuth. He had some success in the past investigating a few murders.
When Jarrod’s adult daughter, Liv’s boyfriend is murdered, the police think it’s a burglary gone wrong. Liv’s boyfriend was a film maker and at his death had been working on a documentary about Liv and her surrogate mother. Liv knew about her mother, but they had never met. She doesn’t accept the project wholeheartedly and asks Zel, her boyfriend, to give her a little time to think about it. Zel pushes ahead. Candy, her surrogate mother, is a kind person but Candy’s son and daughter are something else. Her son is creepy when he shows up unexpectedly at her apartment and pushes her to meet her father because he has a film project to discuss with him. The daughter is afraid Liv is trying to step in to take something away from Candy that would naturally go to her and her brother. The daughter also dates a scary biker guy.
When Zel is found dead, Liv, suspects Candy’s children. As they discover more clues the suspect list grows, and each new suspect brings Jarrod and Liv closer to danger.
This was a fun read. I loved the name dropping at the parties – George and Amal Clooney for one. Lee Hollis is a good storyteller. I was drawn into the story and found myself staying up too late at night to finish it. I would read more from this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Cozies for this advanced readers copy for my honest review.

Liv has a problem. She is standing over a corpse just as predicted by a psychic. She had not believed her father when he had passed on the message, but here she is looking at her dead boyfriend. So she calls her dad, the police are called in, and now the duo has to entangle the mess the "boyfriend" has made of their lives. Especially when they realize that the pool of suspects is growing and politics could have played a part. A nicely paced cozy mystery starring a father-daughter duo in southern California. Who knows, it may be the start of a series?

Thanks Netgalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read this title!

A good cozy mystery with interesting characters. I think I just expected this book to be a little different than what it was, and unfortunately it just didn't grab me a much as I thought it would. Still a good weekend diversion.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ebook for review.
