Lucas Wars wasn't what I expected—it’s a graphic novel, which I don’t typically read. I initially picked it up thinking it was a traditional book, drawn in by my love for Star Wars. But I’m glad I stuck with it. The story offers a compelling and visually engaging look at how Star Wars was brought to life on screen. The page layouts and design were especially enjoyable, offering a fresh way to experience the behind-the-scenes journey. A surprising but worthwhile read.

Honestly, I’ve never been a die hard Star Wars fan—that’s always been my little brother—but I’ve enjoyed the main stories enough that I’ve always recognized these stories as exceptional. Funnily enough, I think I enjoyed reading about the genesis of Star Wars and the history of its creator more than the main stories. There’s something really fascinating about the story on its own, but something even more engaging about the way Renault Roche tells the story. And I think some of this comes from the fact that George Lucas has been talked about so much over the years, quite simply on account of this very story: how so many didn’t believe in him at all and yet, through perseverance and dedication, Lucas completed the movie and, despite all the suits lack of belief in him and his story, experienced an astounding level of success.

I deeply loved the artwork and structure of story presented in this graphic novel. It was an engaging read from the first page and I genuinely felt like I was learning quite a bit about the beginnings of Star Wars and the man behind it all. Even learning a little more about the actors was a lot of fun. What’s even more amazing about this is the fact that even my brother was introduced to some new information when I told him about it. So while the die hardest of die hard fans of Star Wars will probably already be aware of a lot of this information, I still think this is a great addition to their bookshelves.

Lucas Wars was super engaging and fun, definitely a book that I’m happy to have read and one I think a great many—whether they love Star Wars, filmmaking, or not—will have a great time reading.

Lucas Wars is a thrilling and insightful graphic novel that takes readers on a journey through the chaotic and inspiring creation of Star Wars: A New Hope. Written by Laurent Hopman and illustrated by Renaud Roche, this vivid portrayal chronicles George Lucas's rise from a dreamer to a filmmaking icon during the New Hollywood movement. As Lucas contends with the challenges of casting, a secret love affair, actor conflicts, and constant pushback from studio execs, the story reveals the underdog battles that led to the creation of one of the most influential films in cinematic history. The graphic novel beautifully captures the magic of childhood dreams, the struggles of creative vision, and the perseverance needed to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Lucas Wars offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the making of Star Wars, making it a must-read for fans of cinema, storytelling, and the legacy of George Lucas.

Thank you to NetGalley for my Advanced Reader's Copy of the English translation of this book.

As a life long Star Wars fan, I was very excited to read this book and it did not disappoint. A comprehensive telling of the making of Episode IV: A New Hope, this book gives a great overview and a lot of detailed information on the start of George Lucas' career and how lucky we all are that the movie was ever even made.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I loved this. George Lucas truly is a genius and this was a great way to show his genius in action. I love the artwork, especially the pages with Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, their likenesses were spot-on and they felt real. A must read for Star Wars fans.

Relatively accurate historical graphic biography of George Lucas and the challenges involved in making the first Star Wars movie. It covers some parts of Lucas's youth, much of which I did not know, but any fan of Star Wars is likely to know much of the SW related information. There's a tendency to focus on how unpleasant many of the people involved were, so perhaps ill suited for folks who want to keep SW pure and joyful for themselves

This book was a great way to consume a lot of info I already had, but also some that I didn't, in a very entertaining way. The art style was fairly simple, and mostly black and white, with an object or character repeated in panels for a scene given a single non-b/w color.
