Thank you to NetGalley, author Tess Sharpe, and Farrar, Straus and Giroux | MCD for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

What a ride!!!! I read one of Sharpe's previous books, The Girls I've Been, a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. Reading this one now and also loving it, I definitely need to check out the rest of her backlog. This was a CRAZY, high stakes, fast-paced adventure that literally read like a movie. All of Sharpe's writing was so vivid, and I was on the edge of my seat to see the story unfold. Now, is it realistic? No lol, Chloe and Mel (and a host of others I won't mention here for spoiler reasons) are quite literally cats with nine lives. So definitely suspend your beliefs and keep an open mind when you read this!! But if you're willing to put that aside and are looking for a badass, action-packed thriller, this was a great read. I loved the chemistry between Chloe and Mel, and I thought the inclusion of Gigi and the friendship between both her and Chloe and her and Mel was great. I truly had so much fun reading this, and I look forward to reading more of Sharpe's genius storytelling.

No Body, No Crime offers a thrilling adventure, perfect for a quick summer read.

Six years ago, Chloe and Mel hid a body, and, as such circumstances are wont to do, it brought them together and feelings developed. But then Chloe disappears. A few years later, Mel, newly a PI, is tasked with getting her back home, but their past catches up with them and things go very wrong...

This story gripped me from the start, with its action and non-linear storytelling. I love getting information in a non-chronological order and having to make sense of it as we get deeper in the story. Mel and Chloe have a captivating relationship, full of longing, regret, resentment and kept secrets. The story itself is quite simple, there's no complex mystery, so it's really a straightforward thriller. My only gripe really is that the ending wasn't as satisfying as I hoped it would be, I feel like the antagonists should have gotten a better comeuppance there, but oh well.

Definitely recommend this for anyone who wants an action-packed thriller with a sapphic relationship front and center!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this advanced ebook copy of No Body No Crime. I will read anything by Tess Sharpe. But when I read “plane crash” I knew it was going to be a fun one. I was absolutely right. I loved the two main characters. I loved their history and the way we slowed learned their stories and the bits and pieces that revealed how they got into their situation. It was funny and fast paced. I’ll definitely be recommending this one.

"Ding, ding, ding. Another win for fear is a gift"

3.5

Firstly, I want to say that I did enjoy the book; the first few chapters were exciting and thrilling, but also confusing. While the book was written in a very interesting way, it also massively confused me. I was so put out chapter after chapter until it all made sense halfway through,

I think one of the weakest spots of the book was definitely the chapters we spent away from the girls and in the heads of the villains, which were so absurd, but honestly kinda liked the cartoonishly villainous characters we encountered!

I will say love love how unserious the book treated itself, I think that it was one of the best parts of it, I was laughing so hard during the dramatic arguments between Chloe and Mel during the MOST ABSURD AND NOT THE MOMENT TO BE TALKING ABOUT THIS! loved Chloe and Mel and how in love and how absurd they were, it truly was a great time it just... i feel like it was missing something, but would highly recommend!

Perfect summer read. Mel Tillman, young private investigator, has recently lost her mentor, Nat. A lot of thing’s seem to be coming to a head in Mel’s life but there’s one thing she is determined to do above all else. Mel is finally going to locate her HS love, Chloe Harper, and bring her home to her family. But Chloe’s been in hiding for the past six years in the Canadian Cascades for a dark reason. Some awful people are hunting for her as well.

The story starts out bloody and so I was immediately invested because how did we get here. Mel is my favorite because though she’s young to be in charge at 24, her violent upbringing has wisened her beyond her actual age. She’s smart and inspires loyalty from those around her. Chloe is a rich girl turned wilderness warrior. The author juggles action with humor and Sapphic heat.

I was rooting for Mel and Chloe, cheering the bad guys going down, and watching as the secrets unraveled. Hope we see more of Mel and Chloe in the future. Entertaining read.

Thank you net galley for the early access copy. I was excited to read this for several reasons, most notably for it being about a bi-sexual female couple. There’s a lot to unpack here. I did find it a bit disjointed with the back and forth timelines. It wasn’t hard to follow just felt a little choppy. I did enjoy the suspense though and the female empowerment throughout. Solid thriller.

PI Mel has seen plenty of dark stuff, but nothing compares to the night she and Chloe Harper buried Toby Dunne in the woods after he pushed them too far. Years later, Chloe’s gone well and truly off grid and Mel’s sent to find her—only to discover Chloe’s been hiding for very good reason. Turns out, they didn’t just bury a body—they buried something valuable, and now the powerful people it belonged to are coming for it and them.

This was a lot of fun, I liked the pacing and writing style. It was gripping and I was sucked in from the word go. I liked all of the main characters (the ‘goodies’ at least) and felt they were all so clear in my mind & so distinct from each other in a way that made them feel much more real. The multiple timelines really confused me for about half of the book but I stuck with it because I was so invested so early on. I would’ve quite liked an epilogue as well, I understand why the book ended when it did but it still felt very abrupt.

Surprising no one, I loved this one. No one does it like Tess Sharpe. I didn't know much about this book when I jumped in and I am so glad for that. I loved every second of it. I kept being surprise and I did not see any of it coming. I really just loved everything about it. The main characters were flawed and layered and captivating. And I even liked how other characters sometimes had points of view too. It was just so good. I actually cannot wait to reread this over and over. Another amazing book by Tess Sharpe. I cannot wait for more.

The premise of this book was very promising, but the writing style wasn't my personal taste. I had to dnf at 33%

4/5 stars: This is Sharpe's 2SLGBTQIA+ Mystery Thriller Romance that features a rural PI who finds herself on the run through the Northern Californian wilderness after a plane crash with her HS ex, who at sixteen she helped kill and bury the boy who had been terrorizing them. Only problem it turns out they unknowingly buried something the guy stole from a powerful deadly family and they'll do anything to get it back. With plenty of twists and turns, Sharpe writes a fast-paced, non-stop action packed tale that will leave you on the edge until the final page. Told in multiple timelines and POVs, Sharpe's writing and character work are excellent; the characters are well-rounded and complex while remaining likable. Mel and Chloe are a tough women who've gone through a lot and it's great to see the two of them take on their many nemesis and come together in the end. Sharpe touches on some very tough topics; so take care and check the CWs.

I received this eARC thanks to Farrar, Straus and Giroux | MCD in exchange for an honest review. Publishing dates are subject to change.

listen, i'm always going to at least slightly enjoy a fast-paced, high stakes sapphic thriller, but this one didn't manage to hit all the way for me.

it has elements which i loved from sharpe's previous books like the quick-witted conversations, the humerous undertone and the fast-paced action, but it also has elements which i loved from sharpe's previous books which made it a little too similar to sharpe's previous books. both of these characters felt similar to the main character in her previous books, and both of them felt a little too similar to each other. i guess there's only that many ways you can write hardened by trauma but soft at the very core pining women? wish she had come up with a different way though.

despite this being an adult book, both of the main characters still read pretty young to me, and the tone of the book didn't always work when i remembered these were supposed to be adult characters. i think the author also tried to add in the found family element again, which was one of my favourite parts about her other books, but in this one i just didn't connect to any of the characters the same way, so it didn't have the same impact.

would read from the author again though, you can try and pry these sapphic thrillers from my cold, dead hands.

I received an ARC of No Body No Crime by Tess Sharpe (Netgalley) in exchange for an honest review.

Tess Sharpe delivers a gripping, atmospheric thriller that blends rural noir with an intense, character-driven story. This is more than a murder mystery, it's a sharp exploration of trauma, obsession, and the ways people carry both love and violence as scars.

Mel and Chloe’s dynamic is the heart of the novel. Their shared past creates a slow-burn, emotionally heavy connection that feels both tender and dangerous. At times, especially in the early chapters, the romance plotline feels slightly repetitive. However, this repetition adds to the claustrophobic sense of obsession I believe the author intended , both characters are stuck in their past, and that emotional loop reflects their inability to let go.

The survival thriller elements are well-executed, with the Canadian wilderness adding a tense, isolating atmosphere that amplifies both the external threats and the characters' inner turmoil. I also loved the multiple timelines approach which added even more tension.

This is perfect for readers who enjoy morally grey characters, obsessive relationships, and high-stakes suspense. No Body No Crime feels like a story about survival and how some people choose to love in the most loyal and consuming ways.

A tense, queer, character-focused thriller I’ll be recommending.

thrillers that give us women who fight back, twisty plots that keep you on edge, and just enough softness to make you cry when you least expect it. No Body No Crime? Served all that up on a silver platter. And I ate every bite.

Chloe and Mel had me hooked from page one, and I’d like to officially adopt Gigi because she owns my entire heart (she knows what she did). Also: the Bag of Dicks? ICONIC.

This book truly has everything:
✔ Buff women
✔ A plane crash in the Canadian wilderness
✔ Dual timelines that crank up the tension
✔ A sapphic bi4bi romance subplot
✔ Feral peacocks (YES, REALLY)
✔ Twists, drama, and shenanigans galore

It’s fast-paced, action-packed, darkly funny, and so full of heart. If you love adventure, mystery, and women supporting women’s rights and wrongs, you need this one.

⭐ My take: Tess Sharpe never misses. Someone make this a TV series IMMEDIATELY.

Read this book courtesy of NetGalley.

I mean, it's just not The Girls I've Been.

Mel and Chloe were brought together by killing (mostly self-defense, but they hid the body). Then they were torn apart by the consequences. And now they must join forces once more to stop being on the run before it's too late. Also, there are twists.

It's alright, as young adult thrillers go, a quick light read, but never as bracing and fun as I had hoped. The concise, staccato style works, but gets a little repetitive or even annoying after a while. I think I liked the first 1/3 best - then Sharpe seems to throw too many things at the wall to see how they stick, and they don't have the space to breathe. There's a plane crash! Some people are or are not dead! A character is a private detective or a survivalist and none of it matters other than that they're good shots. I guess my expectations had been too high. I

Tess Sharpe’s No Body No Crime isn’t based on Taylor Swift’s “No Body No Crime,” but it’s a good song to have on the playlist while reading. There’s plenty of atmosphere here, but the book is more explosive than atmospheric. The violence piles up quickly, and so do the bodies and the missing people. This was such a fun read.

I can’t talk much about what happens, because the fun is in discovering for yourself how a missing woman, a plane crash, and a car crash after a high school party tie together. Mel is a private investigator. Her mentor, Nat Parker, tells her she knows how to find Chloe Harper, the same Chloe Mel is in a plane crash with in the current timeline, and involved with a car crash in the past timeline. And there’s something about a missing boy from their high school class. Chloe disappeared for a reason, and it looks like someone wants her dead.

Sharpe gives us several points of view, but keeps things mostly focused on Mel and Chloe. She also gives plenty of humor to lighten the suspense.

When a woman sets up booby traps, she doesn’t expect to be psychoanalyzed because of them. She expects her enemies to trigger them so she can flee.

Sharpe gives us pieces of the puzzle so that it seems pretty clear that Mel and Chloe lied about the car wreck, and they know something about Toby’s disappearance. While all of the information is important, and the pace of the plot is important to the enjoyment of the story, the heart of the book is Mel and Chloe’s relationship. They were a secret romance in high school, and their reunion as adults is fraught with familiarity, mistrust, and desire.

No Body No Crime is a feral delight.

I received this as an advance reader copy. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

Crimes are sticky. Like blood, though obviously not all crimes are bloody, but if you've ever cleaned up after a nosebleed you know the phenomenon. The crime here is...complicated. Some people deserve to be unalived. Sometimes a crime is simply balancing the scales.

Those are the best stories to read. They ask us to distinguish among shades of grey. I prefer this to black-and-white stories more often than not. In this case, Mel and Chloe commit a crime. It's not murder, because the killing was richly deserved self-defense. It was what they did afterwards that was the crime: They tried to conceal the body. This is where stuff gets sticky. *gleeful hand-rubbing*

As a work of fiction, then, we've got seriously good stuff to work with. What works the best for me, an old cisqueer white guy, is the soul-searching the young women do together. It feels like the sorts of conversations I had with the boys I wanted to...be with...when I was that age. It's part of a narrative strategy that shifts PoVs to tell parts of the story without an omniscient narrator taking us out of the immediacy of the action...which the soulful chats stop dead. So, well, where's your personal balance point? Do you want the action before the bonding talks? I don't, so this worked for me.

What I didn't really connect with as well was the overly specific conflict between Mel and Chloe. They debate extremely small points and so I get uninvested. It's in character for people this age, but it just gets so tiresome to someone who can think "in three months this will not matter." But more importantly there are just too many voices competing for attention, which gives me a headache. Shaving it down to just Mel and Chloe, I cared more about their actions and their thoughts. Rick is funny, and a fun character, but could easily and profitably been limited to appearances within the women's PoVs.

I'd say this read is solidly executed, though not perfectly for my reading tastes. If you've watched Yellowjackets and resonate with its flow, this book will delight you. It was a solid "A" in my reading.

I enjoyed this almost to the fullest until like 66%, then my enjoyment dropped a little bit, but the ending managed to climb back to complete delight. I put a numerous Tess Sharpe books on my TBR before but never managed to pick one up, so I was over the moon when I got this ARC.

We are following a fragmented story structure, jumping around different point of view characters, times and places, which becomes an interesting investigation on its own. The author perfectly reveals what we need to know for the next step, never more, and only around Chloe I felt hiding too much information even in her own head to kind of deceive the reader. It makes sense for her, but the fact that this no-communication is the cause of the scenes that made me feel like I'm not reading a 5 star book, I wanted to point them out.

The ending however provided a couple of interesting twists I did not see coming, and that is always a plus. The "bag of Dicks" are an interesting batch, I can't say I could took Dick seriously, but I enjoyed the mighty Doris and her peacocks way too much to be really salty about it.

All in all, I could hundred percent recommend it for a thirsting but not spicy at all queer mystery/thriller, I had amazing time with it!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc!

Mel and Chloe are joined due to a murder that they committed when they were teenagers. Soon after the murder, Chloe disappears. Through her mentor's request, Mel is hired to find Chloe. Mel and Chloe's journey revealed so many secrets that these two did not even share with themselves. This was a funny book. I can already imagine the adaptation of this book. I am not sure if I want a movie or a TV show format. I think this book would be good as a movie, but even better as a TV show if the writers take their time developing the relationships more. I was not so solid on the romance. I wish they had more moments together. I did enjoy how Mel and Chloe described their love for each other. I want to read the rest of Tess Sharpe's backlog. This is more of 4.25

I have loved every single Tess Sharpe book I've read, she writes sapphic thrillers like no other and I will die on that hill. No body No crime is just another in a long line of phenomenal books and I can't wait for my physical copy to get here. This was a classic Tess book with all its twists and turns, the fast pace, the captivating writing, and amazing characters. Theres also always a lot of bullshit and banter between the characters which I love and had me rollin in this book.

Chloe and Mel were pretty badass for all they went through in this book not gonna lie. They never backed down from a challenge and they stepped up to the plate and got through the thick of it and came out mostly unscathed lol. I honestly didn't expect a lot of the things that happened because the synopsis just does not do the plot of this book justice. Its a lot of bullshittery and be gay do crime doesn't even cover it at this point like its chaos. The back and forth with the timeline was pretty cool and I liked that I never knew where we would be next from chapter to chapter, It kept me reading just trying to figure out where we would be thrown next and it was just super fun. I also loved listening to everybody clock the villains/big bad's every chance they got, they never let those men breathe and rightfully so lol. They were kind of not that smart for letting a teenager/young woman evade them for as long as Chloe did. They were SO not as smart as they thought they were and I lived for it every time they got humbled which was plenty.

The one thing I do wish though is even if the timeline switched around a lot, we really didn't get many chapters at all from the night of Chloe's sweet sixteen. I kind of expected a lot of how we find out about what happened to Toby Dunne that night to be first hand but it was mostly revealed in the chapters in future timelines in bits and pieces and throwaway lines. It was a little disappointing because along with that I think we missed out on a lot of relationship building with Chloe and Mel as well. I felt their connection still, but probably not as much as I would've if we spent more time with them in the 2ish years between them killing Toby and Chloe running. I also wouldn't have minded more chapters in the timeline of the 6 years that Chloe was missing and how Mel got her PI license, her relationship with Nat, more on her relationship with Whitney, Gigi and her brother. And then for Chloe how she survived, where she went and the methods and measures she took to stay hidden. I still loved the book but more detail would've been welcomed because it was a little lacking. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC, all opinions have been my own!
