Acelynn Benedict is polished, successful and seems to have everything Charlotte yearns for—a wealthy, doting family in Savannah, a handsome boyfriend, a great career. She’s just as surprised as Charlotte to learn she has a sister. But when tragedy hits and Charlotte is forced to assume Acelynn’s identity in a desperate moment, she uncovers something altogether darker…

“Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!” This quote came to mind on more than one occasion as I was reading this book.

This story just keeps twisting around itself and, as a reader, you start second guessing your first thoughts. I mean…you have identical twins separated at birth! I love it when a book makes me question my sanity and this one definitely does.

At first, I did not really like Acelynn. I thought she was going to be a bit whiny….but oh no! Then there is Charlotte. You know something is up with her, you just can’t quite put your finger on it. But those are not the only characters you have to worry about. You must read this to find out!

The narrator, Romy Evans, had great intensity. She really nailed these characters!

Need a twisted tale which will have you guessing…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

Charlotte Kane has been dealing a hard life, and she just wants to find peace and possibly a family. When she finds out that she has a twin, Charlotte immediately wants to get to know her sister. They plan to meet, and it goes well, but something happens, and Charlotte finds herself trying to live her twin sister's life. She soon realizes that her long-lost sister's life is nowhere near as perfect as online claims it is.

I didn't know how to feel about this book at the beginning. Charlotte's character was entirely too gullible meeting her sister. She also made questionable choices throughout the book, but by the end, I was rooting for Charlotte. the side characters in this book were the definition of messy and drama filled. I ate it up. The last twist at the end surprised me and grossed me out. Biana was a nasty snake.

This story just proves that money doesn't always by happiness, and no one is as perfect as they seem online. Everyone has secrets. Some are just darker and more screwed up than others.

“Want is an open grave that needs to be constantly filled.”

Buckle up, y’all, because The Other Sister is a captivating ride full of stunning twists and unexpected turns right up to the very. last. word. WOW. This is an AMAZING psychological thriller that completely hooked me and made me useless for anything other than devouring page after page as quickly as possible. I’m not going to say much about the plot because I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but suffice it to say that there were several moments when my jaw dropped and I gasped out loud as Patch masterfully threw in a new twist that I didn’t see coming (despite trying to anticipate said twists the whole time haha). Her storycrafting is so top notch!!

“Truth hidden in darkness always comes to light, and secrets with it. Sins always find you out.”

Psychological thrillers are, by nature, rather dark and often feature characters who have strayed quite far into depravity or – at the least – a morally gray system of ethics. In The Other Sister, Patch introduces us to a whole heap of characters who are trying to fill the empty places in their souls with all the wrong things and even a few who have given evil a wide open door. And it’s tempting to want to pretend darkness doesn’t exist, isn’t it? But then we miss out on facets of the Light that shine most brilliantly when observed in contrast. That’s one of the many things I loved about The Other Sister – the way the author gently weaves in the Light to shine in the darkness for the people who most need to see it. It’s subtle but it’s there if you look for it without overpowering the story or feeling insincere.

“We’re all a bunch of messy, broken people pretending.“

Bottom Line: Wow! Jessica R. Patch is made to write psychological thrillers, and The Other Sister is her best yet. In fact, I’ve read several psychological thrillers across all markets (general, ‘clean’ and Christian) and this one just took the top spot in my list of faves. To say that I stayed thoroughly engrossed in this novel from beginning to end would be an understatement. Yes, it’s much darker than her Love Inspired Suspense novels… because that’s the nature of psychological thrillers. Yes, most of the characters really really act like they don’t know Jesus… because they don’t. Oh but dear readers, the Hope is there. The Truth is there. Subtly yes, but all it takes is a little Light to start dispelling the darkness, right? Especially when that Light comes from the heart of a Savior who died for people like each of these characters – and you and me – and would have done so even if they or we were the only ones who needed it. I read The Other Sister several weeks ago, and I’m STILL thinking about it. If you enjoy dark, twisty thrillers with gentle undertones of faith, then make sure this one is on your must read list!

This was a Psychological Thriller that will have you guessing and questioning everything you thought throughout this book. Even the Epilogue will have you saying "What?"

Charlotte definitely had a rough upbringing and made some bad choices along with those around her that were close or were supposed to protect her but everyone has the right for Redemption. Lots of twists and turns in this one!

If you are ready to keep your mind reeling and mouth dropping, then this is the book for you. No one is who they seem!
Charlotte has an identical twin sister, but where could she be. She has got to find her!Charlotte does her homework and sees this fairytale life her sister Acelynn has. This is far from the life Charlotte lives. Is Acelynn really all she paints herself to be? I have never thought of how easy it could be to take on the identity of your twin, but boy did Charlotte do it well. She is the masterful manipulator!
Hold on to your seats for twists and turns in this psychological thriller that has you guessing to the last page is turned.

The Other Sister is a dark and twisty thriller that stayed with me long after I finished the book. After the death of her mother who was an addict, Charlotte discovers that she has a twin sister who was given up for adoption. Acelynn has the kind of life that Charlotte has dreamed about and after a tragedy, assumes Acelynn's identity. Author Jessica Patch has written characters that hide their evil underneath a shiny veneer. Charlotte has a faithful friend from her old life and an incorruptible police detective who shines true light into her life. The plot is filled with twists that blew me away, and just when I thought it was over--BAM! There came another huge one. I highly recommend this book to psychological thriller readers, especially those that enjoy a character being redeemed by the end.
I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley and am sharing my opinion of this exciting and very well-written novel.

at 30% I wasn't sure what else could happen but the story just kept getting better! I didn't see the twist coming and really enjoyed this read. If you are looking for a fast paced mystery this is for you.

Wow! I have no words. I do not even know where to start with this review. I am still sitting here stunned out of my mind. Jessica Patch took me on a long ride and dropped me off a cliff. I love a good psychological thriller, and this one is top notch. Mind games and deception are the name of the game in this thriller; whatever it takes to get ahead.

Charlotte Kane's life has not been an easy one, and it does not seem to be getting any better. When her mother dies, she finds out a secret that is about to blow her mind. She has a twin sister, Acelynn Benedict.

Acelynn is everything that Charlotte is not. She has lived a privileged life and has anything and everything that money can buy. They decide to meet.

After tragedy strikes, Charlotte finds herself in a unique position to be someone she is not. She looks just like her sister. So, why can't she take her place? Charlotte has no idea the can of worms she is about to open up. On the surface Acelynn's life looks perfect, but Charlotte soon learns that nothing is as it appears. Money and powerful friends do not buy happiness and/or peace.

There are some incredibly unlikeable characters in this story, which I am sure was by design. The author creates a group of characters that are self-centered and arrogant, and in some cases even depraved. Rabbit holes will open up for you to fall into thinking you have it figured out, only to be taken down another twisty hole. This is one puzzle that I failed to complete. I thought I was so smart and had it all figured out. Bravo to the author for her shock value. If you are looking for a sweet, bedtime story, this is not the book for you. Though it is not the usual type of book we see from this author, do not let that keep you from reading it. This one is a winner and showcases light versus darkness. Life is messy, and this book just proves it. I leave my final words directly from the book. "I chose a filtered life, but there's no such thing. No one's life is filtered on the inside. We're all a bunch of messy, broken people pretending."

The Other Sister is an ingeniously written, complex psychological thriller full of pretense and secrets. Each time I thought I had it all figured out, another surprising scenario would present itself. This quote sums it up: "Things just become more bizarre by the second." The action-packed, twisty plot kept me guessing to the end where I encountered two unpredictable revelations--the first of which was a total shocker! The large cast of multi-layered, compelling characters, most of whom have dark secrets of their own, drive the story. My favorite character is Christian Patrick who shines a ray of light into all the darkness. I appreciate the subtle faith thread of hope and redemption. Even though it is a very dark story, it is realistic, and I think most fans of psychological thrillers will enjoy and appreciate it.

Jessica Patch brought psychological thrillers to the genre Christian fiction and her latest The Other Sister doesn’t disappoint.
Charlotte Kane has lived a life that many children in America have unfortunately had. She was born to an addict single mother and ended up in foster care where her best friends also lived tragic lives. When she finds out she has an identical twin that was adopted into a wealthy family and is not a famous influencer, she knows she needs to meet her. Her life takes an even darker turn after their meeting. In true thriller pattern, no one is who they same to be.
The darkness in this novel was hard for me at times, but it is a compelling story that one can’t stop reading.

Wow! This book was amazing! I’ve read and loved lots of Jessica R. Patch’s books, but in my opinion, this is her best yet. I couldn’t stop reading, yet I didn’t want it to end! I had to keep making myself stop, so that I could enjoy it just a little longer. This thriller had me riveted. The characters are so well-written and jump off the page. I loved Charlotte with all of her deep-seated issues, and she wasn’t the only one with issues! Those “issues” are what makes this novel so unpredictable and twisty. You never know what they’ll do next. I was completely stunned! If you’re a fan of thrillers, you’ve got to read The Other Sister! It’s one I’m going to read again and again! I highly recommend it! 5 huge stars!!!

I read a lot, and I also read across a wide range of genres. Psychological thrillers aren't always my favorite, mainly because if a book is labeled "psychological" I expect certain things in that genre - an unreliable narrator, crazy plot twists, and not knowing what's happening at any given point in the story until the end when the pieces fall into place. Most seem to fall short for me - maybe it's a great story, but it doesn't seem to have that edge that gets in my head and makes me question my own sanity along with the characters'. But Jessica R. Patch nails the psychological thriller with The Other Sister. This is what a psychological thriller should be!

We have Charlotte, and she's a bit unreliable. We know she tries to be good, but has a dark past and is known for pretending to be someone she isn't. When she discovers that she has a twin sister, rich socialite Acelynn, Charlotte winds up assuming her life. But what she finds is that Aceylynn's life is complicated and very dark.

We also have lots of plot twists. The story took me down several paths only to leave me with whip lash. I couldn't possibly guess the ending. The characters are all a bit unhinged and any one of them could be the bad guys of the story. I love Jessica's story telling abilities and they way she reveals just enough information to string me along until the payoff at the end. And it's a fantastic ending. This isn't a traditional romantic suspense where everything is wrapped up neatly with a bow by the end. This thriller will have you thinking about the story long after you've put the book down. Get ready to binge read in one sitting!

Readers who like psychological thrillers will enjoy this twisted story. Charlotte has had a rough life bouncing from one foster home to another. When her drug addict mother dies of an overdose, Charlotte finds out she has an identical twin sister who has a perfect life. But things don’t always appear as they seem. Lots of dark secrets drive this tale to a surprising conclusion. Recommended.

In "The Other Sister", Charlotte is barely keeping her head above water in Chicago when her abusive mother passes away. While sorting through her meager belongings, Charlotte stumbles across a photo that sends her world into a tailspin: she has a sister. An identical twin. Her twin was raised in Savannah among wealth, privilege, and public attention. Acelynn is everything Charlotte isn’t — successful, polished, and seemingly living the dream. But dreams can be deceiving.

When the two sisters finally meet, their lives are irrevocably changed. What begins as a story of reunion quickly turns into a tense, emotionally layered thriller that explores the stark contrast between two upbringings — one shaped by struggle, the other by superficial luxury hiding deeper scars. The narrative takes a shocking turn when a twist of fate forces Charlotte to assume Acelynn’s identity. What she once envied becomes a suffocating masquerade as she discovers just how many secrets are hiding behind Acelynn’s carefully curated life. Deception, manipulation, and danger seem to lurk around every corner. No one in Acelynn’s world is who they claim to be — and the deeper Charlotte goes, the harder it becomes to escape.

The novel is rich with atmosphere and tension. Characters are vivid and multi-dimensional, constantly evolving in ways that keep you guessing. As Charlotte navigates a world filled with betrayal and buried truths, the story builds toward a final act packed with a new curveball in each chapter — and an epilogue that delivers one last unexpected punch.

"The Other Sister" isn’t just a psychological thriller it’s a smart, emotional exploration of identity, trauma, and the shadows that often lie beneath beauty and wealth. The pacing is relentless, with no room for boredom as the story hurtles towards its unpredictable conclusion. It’s gripping, surprising, and impossible to put down.

Thank you to NetGalley, Jessica Patch, and Harlequin for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

"Truth hidden in darkness always comes to light, and secrets with it. Sins always find you out."
The Other Sister is a story full of surprises and secrets, hard to put down as the story unfolds. It begins with Charlotte, living in Chicago, who finds out when going through her deceased drug addict mother's things that she has an identical twin, Acelynn ,who was adopted into a wealthy Savannah family. . The two get together in Chicago but things go deadly for Acelynn with bad guys and Charlotte flees to Savannah to escape and becomes Acelynn. Did she escape one scary situation to move to another? Acelynn's friends and family are a narcissistic group of people full of unbelievable secrets and twists. Just when you think you have an idea of who did what, you have it wrong. A serial killer is on the loose on top of everything else. Evil lurks in the darkness but how can Charlotte brings events into the light and not cause problems for herself. Who would believe her? I hope that there is another book as this one left some dangles. Outstanding read.

4.5 stars - One of my favorite reads of 2025 so far!

Patch crafts a perfect example of a twisty, gritty psychological thriller designed to keep readers on the edge of their seats and turning the pages. While there is a Christian theme, it is minimal, so keep that in mind when reading this. There are multiple twists, and the tension and suspense are strong from the get-go. The characters are multilevel and realistic. The story demonstrates that while you may get a new chance In life, that doesn't totally erase your past. It also shows that everyone has their secrets. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

Possible trigger warning: abuse, abandonment, violence, manipulation

NOTE: This is geared a bit more to the mainstream audience and may have a bit too many unsettling themes for those readers expecting more of a Christian read.

Oh my word. The Other Sister has to be my new favorite book by Jessica R. Patch. She is the queen of twisty suspense that has weaves in the reminder of God's forgiveness and Grace. Charlotte has had a rough life. She grew up with a mother who abused alcohol and recently passed away. She is shocked to find out that she has a twin that was adopted out. Charlotte becomes obsessed with find out out more about her twin, who she discovers is named Acelynn. On a whim, she reaches out to Acelynn and is shocked that Acelynn wants to come and meet her.,

Then everything goes wrong. She finds out that her friend, Tommy is knee deep in debt to a mafia boss. Charlotte witnesses Tommy's death and runs to Acelynn for help. Acelynn offers to help her and bring her back to Savannah to lay low. However she finds herself stepping into Acelynn's seemingly perfect life.... until it isn't.

This book took me on a journey I was not prepared for. Dark, twisty but with the light of forgiveness shining in. The book is well written, the plot grabs your attention as soon as you start reading. The characters are well developed.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

What a story! What a ride! This psychological thriller keeps you guessing about what is going on and you truly do not know who to believe. There is a real evil in the story that made me uncomfortable (especially towards the end), but there were glimmers of hope. The journal entries were a great touch and helped tie the story together. I did not see the twist coming at all!
